Town hall laughs at Republican lie about public option

longde says...

No, I have known at least two people who have been going full bore and took 10 years. They were both doing physics PhDs at two different institutions. I did a PhD in Mech Eng, and that took 5.5 years, and I wasn't lollygagging. That was about average at my univ, in my program.

Am I the only one that wasn't impressed with the teaser? The mechs remind me of Matrix Revolution, and the CGI just didn't win me over. I'm sure it's going to be a great movie, it's James Cameron nuff said. I'm just going straight off this teaser, nothing more.

Q2
A mech warrior?
that spy one that came out out after Austin Powers
Dues X
That shitty dino one (i think it had physics or something)
Fear
The Star Strek one made on the UT1 engine?
A couple with rag doll which I couldnt place
One which looked & (sounded) like the theif franchise
One of the AvP franchises I never played: But looks old so I assume it must of been an add-on to the first game...or prolly a console actually considering the 13yo friendly voice acting.
something which MIGHT of been a never winter nights? prolly not - that first one with the purtple glowing person
Sin
Sin whatever the sequel was
The sequal to...Blood or something
oh and hitman

There was allot that I saw that immitated good games, that actually looked kinda lamo.

Anyway, story games not really my thing.

Supposedly it's also coming to the 360; this fact makes me worry for the simulator aspects that were tossed out for MW4, Mech Assault, and to a lesser degree, MW3. Looks promising so far though. It's also using Unreal Engine 3, which makes me worry for the size/variety of the environments and the overall "feel" of piloting a 70 ton, unwieldy endo-steel 'Mech.

Something about the inescapable light, floaty, intangible feeling of all the Unreal engines when they're used for non-Unreal intellectual properties...Tribes Vengeance comes to mind. Something that's kinda hard to explain. Unique properties like Tribes and Mechwarrior seem to be the type of game where the game engine should be built from the ground up to suit the authenticity of the experience.

If they can get past those hurdles and other longtime fan concerns then this game will definitely resurrect the part of my inner child that died when Duke Nukem Forever was axed.

Approaching this with skeptical enthusiasm if such a thing exists.

Says "In-Game Footage" in the trailer. Downvote from me for both of you.
If I could nuke idiots who don't pay attention when something is actually rendered in "real time", we'd have a lot fewer people on this earth.

Then again, I'd probably be in jail to. GO-GO freakin' real-time Mech' killing. I've been waiting for a new MW game for the last 6 years.

I'm such a geek for this franchise. I still go back and re-read all my old battletech novels to this day. I have all of them! As well as several hundred dollars worth of source books and rulebooks, every PC game, completed many times, and a combined arms regiment of miniatures. I also collected the TCG, and have shitloads of cards. Long story short, I'LL KILL YOU IF YOU !!!FUCK!!! WITH THIS GAME, I'LL KILL YOU IN THE GAME, PREPARE TO DIE ON THE BATTLEFIELD!!!

*pant* *pant*

okay...

anyways, yeah, my demands are simple...

Don't bring me any games past 3070 in the in game universe, stay true to the source material, allow us to customize Mechs along the lines of the Mechwarrior 2 method, aka, the actual way of outloading mechs according to the battletech source books (ie. NOT the way it was done in Mech 4) and give us a god damn movie with a decent budget that isn't directed by the asshole who did Eight Legged Freaks. And I want my own simulator, complete with heaters so that when I fire all my weapons, I cook to death in my cockpit, the way it should be. That will be all.

If seeing scary monsters was damaging to a child then we are all damaged. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

Agreed. We need to take a lesson from the Japanese. Scaring children is hilarious, endearing and prepares them for their future as either zombie apocalypse survivors or underage mech warrior combatants.

P.W. Singer: Military robots and the future of war TED Talks

MarineGunrock says...

I want to slap this guy. He goes on and on about robots being emotionless, but completely fails to mention that we have NO combat robots that are autonomous.
And then with the slide show - He's showing exoskeletons and all that jazz and then busts out a picture from the Braingate project. Seriously? You're comparing a technology that allows a quadriplegic to have very limited use of a computer to that of humans interfacing with combat robots?

What really made me laugh was the side-by-side of the Star Wars AT-ST and the Japanese walker mech.

First of all, you're a douche. ZOMG! Not some piece of shit "mech" that simulates walking by gliding on wheels made by some guy in his garage out of sheet metal!

Secondly, he seems to willfully neglect that these machines are NO different than a predator drone, a M1A1 Abrams tank, or a 2004 Toyota Camry.

They all require an operator.

Starship Troopers is such an underrated story/movie! The satire over a totalitarian world government is precious.

Ever read the book?

It wasn't satire. Just fun science fiction.

And those suits they wear? They are supposed to be (essentially) mech suits.
