Hero Cop Saves Suicidal Woman From Rooftop

Lawdeedaw says...

I think a hero can be more than a dangerous situation or accomplishments..

The man who works his fingers to the bone for his children and still has time to throw them around in the air like superman (That's to you dad.)

The woman who looks to an abusive husband and says, "Fuck you, I don't need you." (That's to you Mrs. Lawdeedaw--when she did that to her previous husband.)

The little girl who returns the penny to the man who dropped it because his mother gives 'that nod' to her. Then the man who smiles at her, and gives her a dollar for the effort.

We have sensationized 'hero' so much that few people are heroes at all. The Soldiers fighting the wars? Mecenaries. The cops? Same. It is why you do something that vastly outweights what you do.

*Steps off soapbox.

I mostly like the risk/sacrifice definition of "hero", but I think there's also an element of "saving a dire situation with a feat of excellence at a critical moment". It's like when Joe Carter hit his walk-off home run to end the 1993 World Series (heroic), as opposed to when he merely caught the ball in a routine play at 1st base to win the 1994 series (not heroic). That's the one that I feel applies here which unquestionably makes this guy a hero.>> ^burdturgler:
>> ^EMPIRE:
He saved her, and that's great. Really is.
But... isn't the word hero being thrown around rather lightly? Why was that heroic at all?

I can't win with titles on the sift. I say a cop smashes a girls teeth out and I get called a liar because her teeth were only chipped out, not knocked out. A cop leaps forward and snatches a girl when she has half an inch of ass on the ledge of a 40 foot roof.. "hero" is too strong a word.
You say he saved her life and then ask why that's heroic in the same comment. Isn't that enough? What did you do today?

Leslie Nielsen meets with world leaders

ulysses1904 says...

Classic movie. Some of my favorite moments are:

Drebin using the men's room with his mic on
The guy throwing a pillow in his face in the hospital room
Sneaking into Ricardo Montalban's office then climbling out on the ledge
O.J. Simpson getting shot and then staggering around the room bumping into everything
Drebin singing the national anthem then playing the umpire
and the list goes on.

The first sequel Smell of Fear was pretty lame but the last one 33-1/3 was definitely an improvement.

Keith Olbermann Special Comment: False Objectivity vs. Truth

I pretty much agree with everything you just said. I think the prose you wrote above would make an excellent deface to the preface of the new book I prefaced called, 'Elephants That Became A Morass Relay System That Were "Gored" Into A Multi-Platform Supported Prostitute', written by John C. Dvorak and prefaced by me and your stuff near the back. Right before the end; you'll kindly remind the readers that they read 259 pages of nothing. Literally, (literally) nothing, but THIS (plus our stuff):

"Then on that dissmal day did I look fondly over the barren San Francisco skyline and remembered the quote I had stated so long ago, and evermore..so...truth-worthy now..."

'Apple makes the arrogant assumption of thinking that it knows what you want and need. It, unfortunately, leaves the “why” out of the equation — as in “why would I want this?” The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a ‘mouse’. There is no evidence that people want to use these things. I dont want one of these new fangled devices.'

I think from there we all know that he commited suicide. Strangling himself, to death, from the ledge of his 12-story condo using blue-tooth enabled mice (he hated blue, and as well logic).

That's how are (our) books will be in 16 years (sentance? (sp?, seantance?); if we don't do something quick (sic)!

Hopefully, my satirical take on the full-on double stupidity that is the U.S. Government will never reach the severe end of either spectrum. I do think we would more easily be pushed right than left. My opinion. Although I think strangely that the Internet may make a mark on the future of our local and national decisions as well as elections. The good thing about this is that people can educate themselves and be far more "aware" as to who is playing in the process and how (coffers, law, and lives). Those "W" and "H" questions will be, if lucky, the biggest decider in the future.

This requires the 'old guard' to leave. The lawmakers need to lose some power methinks by way of term limits/lobbyist repels/no laws made regarding themselves (who the hell left that out)/one law-or-bill-at-a-time/etc... They also need to have a oversight committee ran by the FBI and cases tried by the Supreme Court. Awww, who am I kidding. I'd be lucky to see even one of those go in. It's pretty easy to see what part of the system is incredibly ruined (house of representatives of Scrooge McDuck with minority whip Haliburton).

>> ^Tymbrwulf:

@kceaton --> Post above. Deleted for obsolescence and a one light year re-post of a post for a new post. Trust me, it's the *new* thing. As soon as I can get the new process to redact itself into a very simple and yet hard to learn html/xhtml (I like to pronounce it hate-in-the-mail) code.

Carrying on... No grammar check again! Have at it!

A lot of people tend to translate phobia to hatred, that's not the case. Because it's against people, some people tend to get extra up in arms, but I think some times that is an overreaction. People can be scared of gays, like some people are scared of heights. It happens, but that doesn't necessarily make them haters of all things gay.

Yes but usually fear of other human beings translates easily into hatred. Now you can't really hate the ledge that makes you be up really high where you're not comfortable. You can certainly hate the people you fear though...Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. Yoda knows all.

Incredible skateboarding by soon-to-be-famous Kilian Martin

MORE COMPLICATED?!!
Alright, I almost replied to this, but stepping back I concede that it may not be entirely obvious to non-skateboard-nerds how inconceivably difficult Haslam's part there is vs. the fingerflips, low-ledge grinds, Mullin's spins and quick shuvits that make up the bulk of Martin's video.

>> ^Nebosuke:

>> ^bamdrew:
yeah man, Haslam does shit that is borderline miraculous... its probably that wizard beard....

... Chris Haslam blows all of this out of the water when he's playing around. ...

After watching that video, Haslam is cleaner, but Martin had more complicated tricks. Haslam was also doing the same trick with only slight variations over and over.

new things I saw were landing with legs crossed (1:40), and rolling off some stairs on two wheels (2:30)...

... both of which are kinda lame (in my opinion).

The fingerflip shit is neat; guys have been resurrecting that old school stuff down stairs and off of ledges, but, well, people stopped doing it because it was kinda lame. Dudes pretty good, though!

ACDC Vs Iron Man 2 - Architectural Projection on Castle

volumptuous says...

It's not about the 2D for me whatsoever.

It's the fact that their actual projection surface is so boring dynamically that they had not so much to play/fuck with.

If you watch any of their previous work, not only is it far superior in surreal art direction, but it's also using the structure of the building, pillars, windows, ledges, etc. And is also the main point of how amazing their artwork is.

I just thought that this presentation of theirs isn't nearly as awesome as all their previous efforts were.

Streaming MST3K 24/7

BoneRemake says...

I cant believe this is still up and people are a-ok with it after the whole Debacle over

Not allowing the streaming video of the eagle/bird which was on a ledge outside some guy in England office, or something to that effect, without going back into history and finding said thread.

Its been done, (we) have all done this road before, streams are not allowed. Give it 24 hours and others will pipe up and remember I tellz ya.

Peleliu

NordlichReiter says...

Watching overhead war footage, or seeing a war scene from the Omnipotent Third Person overhead, it proves; for me there is no god.

But, it also proves to me how everything in reality is relative to your point of view.

Imagine if you will a scene, not unlike some in this video, wherein we can see a soldier fighting from one trench to another. This soldier crests the ledge of the trench to run into another trench. But we can see from above that the trench is filled with what is this soldiers certain doom. Up to 20 enemies are in the trench waiting for him. But here is the terrible truth of the situation, the soldier has no clue what is waiting for him in that next trench.

How can a god simply allow this to happen? If god is omnipotent then he sees the ghastly things at all times, yet he does nothing. Some god.

This little rant was inspired by the soldier's reciting of the Lord's Prayer.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

A Logic Gate comes home late from work one night with his wife standing furiously at the door with a pair of ladies underwear, he exclaims, "Honey I swear I don't know where those came from!", she quickly replies, "Don't lie to me! I saw your Truth Table!".

A binary 0 is looking down to the long drop below, contemplating on jumping, when a 1 comes rushing up and screams, "You don't have to do this, we can find a way to make it work!", though the 0 had made up his mind, "I'm always going to be nothing but a zero to you! This is the only way out!", with one last look back, he plunged off the ledge in to a NOT gate...

Digital Circuits wasn't always the most interesting lecture, we had more but I can't remember, I'm sure they were all equally terrible.
