They Shall Not Grow Old | Official Trailer ...

SFOGuy says...

saw it on Monday Dec 17th, 2018.
It's magnificent.
Unbelievable labor of love by Peter Jackson to create a remarkable tribute to his grandfather and an entire generation's experience of a terrible, terrible war.

There is a rumor that since every single show currently scheduled has sold out---it's going to get a release into more theaters again in 2019. And...btw, because of a missed deadline, it won't be eligible for an Oscar.

Poll Suggests Ron Paul Can Beat Obama in 2012

quantumushroom says...

The difference is that one has actual facts behind it....the other is just a loudmouthed child behind it.

Per this sift, my post was an opinion piece based on observation and what actually happened in the early 90s. Calling a socialist "Cankles" is far less obnoxious than the grandiose plans these utopian knuckleheads have for MY freedom.

One can be demonstrated, the other is just someone looking for attention.

Everyone that posts seeks some attention. Everyone that does anything in the public eye is seeking some kind of attention, positive or negative. I'm merely typing my mind and if you disagree with it, that's all right by me. If a liberal wants to prove something with facts and data, I'm all for it.

When we call someone racist, we're arguing that what the person is doing is wrong: judging people based on their race.

You mean like when the left prejudges all minorities as helpless victims who need special government help?

When you call someone a name, you're ignoring the actual issues at hand and just playing a child's game. the same ad homs you always do QM and you instantly lose any high ground you might have gained if you were actually debating instead of slinging mud. Sure, dems do it too, but again, using that as your excuse is what a child does.

I harbor no illusions about "changing" anyone's mind about anything. I doubt anyone logs on thinking, I hope someone challenges my belief system so I can see their side of things!

More peeps enjoy witty sarcasm than long-winded essays. I admit to not always being witty, but so what, I ain't gettin' paid, this is a labor of love and annoyance.

QM FTW.

Xtranormal - So You Want to Work in the Video Game Industry

ShakaUVM says...

I worked in the video game industry for several years. It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It is a business, but I still really enjoyed it.

My most well known mod was done entirely on my own... CustomTF. Labor of love that became the biggest mod for Quake, but I couldn't have done it without my experience in the industry.

Thanks! sometimes it can be a bit of a chore wanting to put the vintage sifts into decades, but it's a labor or love. Thanks for the addition! I have a save coming up I'll use on this one. My lists 30's and under are a bit thin

Sifting advice for new users? (Sift Talk Post)

Zifnab says...

Hmm advice 'eh? Well first off sift stuff that you like to watch, if you try to find vids that you *think* other people will like generally it just isn't going to work. Sifting is a labor of love so you have to love what you sift.

I find a good summary very helpful when I'm looking through the queue. A video with an ambiguous title and no summary will often get overlooked.

Advertising (Sift Talk Post)

James Roe says...

Gorgonheap, I understand why you don't like ads... I don't like ads either. However I belong to a couple of sites, namely metafilter and fark where a paid membership prevents me from dealing with ads. We already have this system on videosift.

Charter members are grandfathered out of advertisements. I understand why you hate advertisements but I guess I feel like 40 bucks a year, which is about what we get off of the CPM's for prolific members is not too much to ask to let us maintain a quality site. The sift is a labor of love, but it is still a labor and as such it takes an increasing amount of time.

At any rate in VS 3.0 we are going to start offering sponsored memberships, where a member can buy a charter membership for 3 months for any other user for 10 dollars. Our suspicion is that prolific members, as well as members that are too young to have their own paypal accounts will be recipients of these gift memberships. These memberships will provide prolific users with at least one possibility to avoid ads.

VideoSift version 3.0 Screenshots (Sift Talk Post)

James Roe says...

Do I make a living? no, but it helps defray some bills. This is sort of a labor of love for us at the moment. We would love to run VideoSift full time and do nothing but that, but at the same time what would such a transition require from our ethics? We've rejected numerous ad requests from low tier advertisers hoping to hold out for actual "classy" advertisements if there is such a thing. In our opinion we are the New Yorker or Harpers of online video, they certainly don't have punch the monkey ads on their sites so why should we.

That said advertising is coming, and it's sort of our belief that it will help us drive an upswing in charter membership. Which is really what pays the bills at the moment. Because we don't really want to advertise, we just want to help people find awesome video, and we love the fact that the charter membership lets us reward users who help us with an ad free environment.
