Mythbusters - Martini Myth
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
>> ^RKW:
Winston Churchill legendarily made a martini by pouring a glass of Gin and taking a glance at a bottle of vermouth, or letting the sun shine through the bottle of vermouth onto the glass of gin.
Sounds like a homeopathic cocktail.
Ben Goldacre explains the problem with homeopathy
But I think the point is that there wouldn't even be a single molecule of the substance in the final container. As the odds of you picking up the ever reduced amounts of it in the later containers becomes smaller and smaller. At least that is what I imagine it was meant to convey.
So to guarantee that you have you have a single molecule of the substance every time, you would need the absurdly large amount of water...or maybe I am as crazy as the homeopaths
Ben Goldacre explains the problem with homeopathy
The hyperbole used here is absurd. Even if they started with only one molecule of their homeopathic substance (and they start with much more than that), they would literally need a sphere of water the size of the distance from the earth to the sun in order to achieve the dilution that this guy claims. The amount of water actually used is shown right there in the beakers on the screen. Ignore the numbers.
EDIT: I was wrong. I thought about it some more, and I understand what's going on now. His math may well be right.

As an honorary new-age hippie, I will summarize what a homeopath learns from this clip:
Magic works if you believe in it.

You know that your homeopath is prescribing sugar-pill placebos when there a lower-case "m" on your "pill"!
Klavan on the Culture: Shut Up, Conservatives!
PUH - LEAZ.
His so-called 'conservative opposition' has nowadays reduced itself to endless nonsensical, openly unpatriotic hateful drivel - just look at all the Glenn Beck and Fox&Friends clips in recent months. And the ironic part in this (which this guy seems oblivious to) is that it was enabled by one of his culprits - the 'leftist' media, who unlike Fox News in their efforts at actually being "fair and balanced" started giving airtime to stupid, ignorant hacks for the sake of having a "balanced debate". You wouldn't entertain the idea of a moon-landing-hoaxer debating NASA in front of a televised audience, would you (3:13)? You wouldn't invite the KKK to a debate on racism, would you? Same principle applies to why Bill O'Reilly shouldn't have a show.
Also, can somebody please explain to me how in the world would net neutrality be used to shut someone up? This claim is beyond ridiculous, the whole concept is that of no censorship. Seems to me logic and common sense just joined journalism and political science on the list of things this guy fails at.
But then again, this is a guy who says there could (and should) be a movie that supports 'war on terror' and that Bush is Batman, among other things. Yyyeeeeeaaaaaaaaah.
Ben Goldacre explains the problem with homeopathy
Exactly... Doctors don't prescribe placebos, homeopaths do. And charge a fortune for them, and are douche nozzles for doing so.
Ben Goldacre explains the problem with homeopathy
I don't know about the US, but in the UK, doctors are not allowed to prescribe placebos. So it's not the doctors who are deceitful here, but the frauds and con-artists who call themselves homeopaths.
Ben Goldacre explains the problem with homeopathy
^ From what I can gather, doctors don't prescribe sugar pills/placebos unless the patient (knowingly) is part of a randomized trial/scientific study. Homeopaths on the other hand...

Soooo....chiropractors are nothing more than massage therapists?
Sounds about right.
What a massage therapist does for your muscles, a chiropractor does for your joints.
That's not medically accurate (I presume!), but that's the end result, except a chiropractor's adjustments can last a life time.

Nope, didn't say that. Massage is used to loosen up the muscles before cracking the ole joints. Massage therapists don't do that.
