Anyone miss collectives? (Sift Talk Post)

choggie says...

I like the channels better.....no one ever asked me for an invite to the wild west show, and it was some bird pestering me to start a new one anyhow.....Remeber, the wildwestshow can contain anything you think is wild and westernized.....like a clown with only his red-nose streaking down a corridor in a crowded mall, or, it can be some country tune, or, some home-movie of some wild, expulsive activity.....How come noone watches my channel?????

Jon Stewart on Dr Katz talks about pets and Jesus

I also recommend Home Movies. Done by the same animation studio, Soup 2 Nuts. Same kind of slower, irreverent, intelligent humor, with many great comic cameos (though not nearly as many as Katz), and co-created by Brendon Small who also does Metalocalypse. But I'll watch anything with H. Jon Benjamin (Ben Katz) in it.

Fourth of July Playlists? (Sift Talk Post)

choggie says...

I say, we make it a Fourth Post Fourth, and Include Bastille Day for all the froggies and hosers......
The Rules:
Post a viddy for the fourth, with a fireverks theme, preferably one filmed and uploaded- submitted to admins. for post.
The viddy must contain harrowing or otherwise impressive feats of Class C or homemade ordinance, displayed in a creative or otherwise delightful way, (roman-candle battles, fire-cracker tricks, mortars awry, etc.)

The best sifter posting the best home movie, gets the prize........

Those who don't have cameras or upload savvy, may submit some tripe off one of the stock-footage sites we allow, and they will catch the hind-teat prize....[bucket a' fried chicken er sumpthin')

Hitchcock's "Rear Window"

silvercord says...

From Wiki:

Brian De Palma paid homage to Rear Window with his movie Body Double (which also added touches of Hitchcock's Vertigo). Rear Window was remade as a TV movie in 1998 starring Christopher Reeve. Marcos Bernstein's The Other Side of The Street (2004) also makes a reference to Rear Window, albeit with a Brazilian twist. Animated series such as The Simpsons, Tiny Toon Adventures, Rocket Power, The Venture Bros., and Home Movies have all paid homage to Rear Window. That 70's Show also spoofed the film in the episode "Too Old to Trick or Treat, Too Young to Die" along with other Hitchcock works. Robert Zemeckis' "What Lies Beneath" is another film that pays tribute to this film and another Hitchcock's features.

This movie has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. The film was restored by the team of Robert A. Harris and James C. Katz for its 1999 limited theatrical re-release and the Collector's Edition DVD release.

DCLugi - Help Wanted [very funny skit]

Foo Fighters - Low - with Jack Black (banned on MTV)

Krupo says...

OMG, we didn't have this vid already? It's awesome!

"home movie" effect shouldn't be confused with "viral-style", although no one's suggested it is - just a pre-emptive comment.

Welcome to the Sift, eric - for future sifts, I recommend seperating tag-words with commas; no big deal though - and if you're tempted to write "funny", just use the *comedy tag.

Mitch Hedberg - Home Movies - Dr. Fizzel - Anger Management

Bob Dylan: "When the Deal Goes Down" w. Scarlett Johansson

maudlin says...

What really gets to me about this video is the way it's filmed as a faux home movie (not video). It's so intimate. Scarlett is playing a woman who is loved by the person filming her, and she looks back at the camera with love. Watching this video is like finding someone else's love letters inside a secondhand book.
