Hitchslap: Islam and Multiculturalism

Christopher Hitchens - The Best of the Hitchslap - Part Two

Phreezdryd says...

I especially enjoy when he doesn't just argue for another point of view, but holds a mirror up to his opponent and calls them out on the concept they're espousing, telling them point blank how low he thinks they've sunk in defense of some ugly nonsense. Examples being the jokes about circumcision, and god monitoring your thoughts to incriminate you unless you beg forgiveness, etc.

The incredible amount of garbage and lies the faithful try to pass off as something based in reality requires nothing less than a generous portion of Hitchslapping.

Hitler Reacts to Ron Paul's Rise in Polls

Well, you linked to an article from 2007, so it would be more accurate to say "Neo-Nazis helped bankroll Ron Paul's last campaign."
In any event, I remember when this came up. Certain people were insisting that Ron Paul return the campaign contributions, which he refused to do (as far as I can remember). I thought his rationale was remarkably astute: If racist, bigoted people want to undermine their own efforts by giving money to a campaign based on liberty, mistakenly thinking that they'll be influencing the message of the campaign, then let them do so. In the end, we'll end up with (1) more liberty and (2) less money in the hands of the bigots.
More generally, though, this issue reminds me of a certain argument flung by religious folk, namely the condemnation of atheism based on the fact that "atheists" like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot (forget the fact that Hitler wasn't an atheist) perpetrated some of the last century's worst atrocities. (Richard Dawkins, in an interview with Bill O'Reilly, illustrated the fallacy quite simply: "Stalin did not do bad things because he was an atheist. I mean Hitler and Stalin both had mustaches, but we don't say it was their mustaches that made them evil.")
The generalized point is that the value of an idea is not determined by the value of the person advocating for that idea. A fool may very well endorse an intelligent belief; it doesn't make the belief any less intelligent.>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

Thanks for the promote Jigga, I didn't see this one the 1st time around. I'm gonna miss the Hitchslaps...

A friend of mine found this quote from Ann Druyan, Carl Sagan's wife, after he died. Found it pretty inspiring:

"When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me - it still sometimes happens - and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again. Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don't ever expect to be reunited with Carl. But, the great thing is that when we were together, for nearly twenty years, we lived with a vivid appreciation of how brief and precious life is. We never trivialized the meaning of death by pretending it was anything other than a final parting. Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous - not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural. We knew we were beneficiaries of chance… That pure chance could be so generous and so kind… That we could find each other, as Carl wrote so beautifully in Cosmos, you know, in the vastness of space and the immensity of time… That we could be together for twenty years. That is something which sustains me and it's much more meaningful…

The way he treated me and the way I treated him, the way we took care of each other and our family, while he lived. That is so much more important than the idea I will see him someday. I don't think I'll ever see Carl again. But I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful."

I hate to interrupt your anti-intellectual parade and your lack of real facts or non-ignorant assertions, but have you heard of this great new site called Google.com?
Google search: muslim welfare rate europe OR britain OR sweden

Haha, anti-intellectual.

I was taking issue with your "once Europe is majority Muslim". I've read tripe like that before in a paper...what was it called again. Oh yah. The Daily Mail. Or was it The Sun. I forget.

Heres something for you to mull over: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1542427/One-third-of-homes-dependent-on-benefits.html
Oh, and before you say the majority of that 1/3 are Muslim consider that the 2001 census shows that only 2.7% of the UK is Muslim. Somewhat less than the 15.5% who identify as "no religion", but I don't see anybody expecting them to "take over Europe". So ok, 40%>33%, but its hardly the case that Islam is climbin in our windows and snatchin our welfares up. Its much the same story in the rest of Europe. Edumacate yourself thx.

Ps. I hate Islam, I just hate this distortion of reality more.

The problem is so many of them are not looking for acceptance they're looking for people to accept Islam as true. Don't say anything bad about Islam or else, don't depict Muhammad or else. They're trying to force people to follow their religion by playing the part of the persecuted.
The same is true for all the crazy Christians over here, they're not looking for people to accept that they're Christian, they want people to accept Christianity as true. That's why they try to force Noah's flood to be taught in science class, or want prayer at public events.
It'd be like if gays said that in order for them to be accepted everyone had to take a dick in the butt. If you want to know what someone really wants and why, look at how they're trying to get it.

mmm multisexualism, coming to a city near you.

Without wanting to be the second person to invoke your wrath, any chance you could link to specific articles instead of a link to the Google home page please? Preferably From sources within the EU or the UK, thankyouverymuch
