McCain's Convention: Hookers & Blow
Perhaps people are missing the point because they're not a political junkie like me, but the Republicans made a huge deal about canceling the Monday night portion of their convention, and instead running a half-hearted telethon to raise money for Gustav survivors.
The convention hall was essentially empty, except for press, and whoever was on stage.
Then...they partied like it was 1999.
Sarah Palin's daughter pregnant!
I wonder, did the McCain campaign know about this?
I think this is one more piece of evidence that Palin was a last-minute, un-vetted, pick.
Yes, I know the McCain campaign claims foreknowledge, but I don't believe that one bit.
I agree with the sentiment that Bristol herself should be left alone, but I think Palin should get grilled about the kind of example this sets for the first family, and to explain her position on sex education, what sorts of things she'd told her daughter about sex, does she know the father, approve of the relationship, etc.
After all, imagine if Obama had a pregnant teenage daughter. It'd be 24/7 focus on that, and forget hurricane Gustav.
Hurricane Gustav v. Hurricane Katrina - The satellite images
Only Katrina is huge... Gustav looks miniature.

how oh-so-ironic that Hurricane Gustav is now threatening to derail the Republican's own convention. While the residents of the Gulf coast are in our own hearts and prayers as they weather this storm, there does seem to be a sense of justice that New Orleans and memories of Katrina would come back to haunt this Republican convention. The memories of Katrina should rightly haunt them for the rest of their years.
Safe to go back to Louisiana: Gustav Takes Aim (Science Talk Post)
Looks like gustave is gonna hit.
They expect 7 foot surge to 15 feet surge.
Florida Sammich Incoming? Oy Gevalt! (Blog Entry by Doc_M)
Last night our local weatherman, Bob Breck, was showing historical paths of hurricanes that followed the route Gustav is taking. The majority of them either hit Texas or Florida. There were two that hit Louisiana - one going back to 1890. I found Bob Breck's Your Weather Authority Blog.
Syndicate Intro
interesting.
the music is a barely-altered (slightly more repetitive) version of the "Mars" piece, from Gustav Holst's The Planets.

The Giant Crocodile of Burundi (Gustav)
This video is horrible, which is why you've had to requeue it twice now, but it also has some great cheesy moments that made me laugh. And Gustav is pretty bad ass. I looked him up, and apparently he's still around, eating people and such.
Vader Falls in Love
Brilliant! I loved the side-ies on the officers too.
The tune was "Venus, The Bringer of Peace" from Gustav Holst's The Planets.
