Eskimo Hunters - 1949 Film
^Deathcow: No, the natives had already been displaced prior to the building of your home. Kinda like me saying it's ok to wear clothing made through child labour because I didn't put them in the factories.
'as far as I can tell' - I'm sure you've been trying real hard.
'Did their tiny population...' - Collectively, yes they did. Either them or the Klinkit. I know it's easier to pretend that that land didn't belong to an indigenous people prior to European contact, but that would be naive.
Look at how ^Dag is much more respectful and tactful in getting his point across.
^Dag: Very well said. The same issues exist for Inuit (Inupiat are Inuit) across Canada and Greenland today. I have a pretty good idea of what you would have experienced and witnessed up there (many of my teachers in high school were fresh out of University and were shocked at much of what they saw).
I believe a culture is responsible for it's own survival (mine included) if it's given enough time to adapt to the world it finds itself in. I grew up hunting with snowmobiles and with rifles, nothing wrong with that. It is folly to think that a culture must remain static or become assimilated. Adaptation is the key to cultural survival and success.
I agree on the status quo too - I relentlessly rail against the status quo back home, and of the dangers of complacency. I understand perfectly well what you (and deathcow) are trying to say about the feasibility of small populations trying to acquire a 'modern' lifestyle in the Arctic, while preserving aspects of their culture. Believe it or not, IRL I'm not the flippant, immature person I can come across as on VS, and I spend a large portion of my time thinking about ways to address these kinds of issues.
Drop me a PM sometime - I'd be interested in having a mature discussion about your experiences in Barrow.
Witnessing the ice melt in Greenland
It's been mentioned in Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth as well, but with a much bigger implication.
If the Greenland ice sheet melts and pours enough fresh water into the North Atlantic, we'll have far worse consequences than a few meters of higher sea level.
Rep. John Shimkus: God decides when the "earth will end"
The argument is not about whether the climate is changing. the question is, did mankind (and specifically C02 emissions) cause it?
consensus has nothing to do with fact, so it really doesn't matter even if 100% of scientists believe something.
To put carbon emissions in perspective, the average human breathes approximately 15 times a minute, over the course of the day this adds up to approximately 0.9 kg of C02, so in a year each human produces 328.5 kg of C02 just in the act of breathing alone. There are just over six and a half billion humans living on earth, so by simply being alive humans produce 328.5 * 6.6 / 1000 = 2.168 billion tonnes of C02 per year.
Here are some other numbers for comparison:
Global industrial C02 emissions: 24.16 billion tonnes per year
Consumption of vegetation by animals & microbes: 220 billion tonnes per year
The ocean as part of the carbon cycle: 330 billion tonnes tonnes per year
total human impact is 2.2168 + 24.16 = 26.3768 billion tonnes, or 26.3768 / (220 + 330) = 4.7957% of total C02 emission
total animal/bacterial impact is 220 / (330 + 24.16) = 62.11% of total C02 emission
Seeing ice melt, or droughts occur may say something about climate change but it says nothing of the cause of such a change. The cause of the change is what is causing controversy, not the change itself.

I'm truly amazed when i hear people say they don't "believe" in global warming.
You can SEE million year old ice melting in greenland.
You can SEE unpresedented 10-15 year doughts in Australia & Africa
Around the world 95% of scientists are BEGGING us to avoid disaster.
Whats not to believe? Scientists because they discredit religion?
or just 'in principle' because of a right wing prejudice against environmentalists? It's just so damn petty and closed minded.

zimbabwe's economy in collapse - gold for bread
Yes indeed, Mr Taylor is a lucid gentleman and brave enough to broach a thorny subject while remaining reasonable and respectful. It is his opponents who resort to name-calling and ad-hominem insults, most likely because they get backed into a corner by sound arguments and implacable logic. He deserves a minimum of respect by all champions of free speech.
As for the "neo-Nazis" in the video you linked... I have nothing but contempt for such individuals and would rather spend an hour with the most hardcore multiculturalist than any of those despicable, hate-filled idiots.
As for the subject above, I am of the fervent opinion that Zimbabweans are the masters of their demise and deserve no extrication or pity.
Just like most of Africa, they find themselves with pristine agricultural land, enormous mineral resources and untapped human capital. They squander their time with petty tribal fights instead of building their nations. If Greenlanders and Inuits can survive in the harshest conditions on Earth, how can you not live comfortably in the luscious pastures and forest of Africa? They contribute nearly nothing to the sum of humanity and, quite diametrically, demand aid, assitance and support which in effect perpetuates their state of failure.
If they are incompetent, they deserve to fail. Only then, perhaps with a dose of humility, will they permit Whites (or Asians or Indians) to make their country as prosperous and livable as it once was.
As a nota bene, and perhaps a disclaimer against the assumption that I'm some sort of monster... all people deserve the utmost success, and I would not be bothered in the least if Africans, Afghanis or Apaches surpassed all other civilizations in all measures of achievement. I'm just sick and tired of Africans been seen as invalids or "victims of circumstance" that have no hand in shaping the very land they have inhabited for millenia.
ROAST X: ITS XTREME!!!! (Parody Talk Post)
I am honored that blankfist would bother to mention my name. Or remember it for that matter.
Libertarians and hard grain alcohol are not as loosely related as some would think. Fact is, one could not exist without the other.
But this isn't about me, and it's not about that seven inch long finger-like protrusion that most men feel when they reach for their crotch, except for blankfist.
No, this is about some Norwegian fuck with a purple hat that I've never met.
Some kid in a country almost as important and beautiful as Greenland, who for some god forsaken reason agreed to be the sacrificial caribou....
What? What do you mean I can't keep typing? Why, this is an outrage! I deman....

"they do this in other countrys where the people are not free" she says:
...umm...oh i think by "not free" sarah palin actually means live better living standards in pretty much every possibly way that americans do on average... meaning higher average education, home ownership, life expectancy, literacy rates and lower average teen pregnancies, abortions, homeless, infant mortality rates, homicide and crime rates, and human rights.
im talking about countrys like Sweeden, Norway, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Canada, Denmark, Japan, Greenland, Iceland and FRANCE who are much better off currently then the USA in those respects.

Sarah Palin on Russia
>> ^Sketch:
Come on people! Anyone who's played Risk knows that the greatest threat to America comes from Kamchatka!
Dammit... something really witty that I should have come up with! Very nicely done. You earned that star!
I do believe, however, that Venezuela poses the biggest threat to North America, and Greenland (part of N.A.!?) must be defended against the might buildup of armies in Iceland.
McCain: Palin Is Top Energy Expert In US, Understands Russia
Well, I lived in Maine, which is right next to Canada and on the east coast. So I'm an expert in Relations with Canada, England Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Iceland, Greenland, Finland, Italy, Greece, Bosnia, Croatia, Haiti, Cuba, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and OH, what do you know? Russia is on the Atlantic too, so count that one in there. Then add Morocco, Mauritania, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra-Leone, Liberia, Cameroon, Togo, Benin, Ghana, Guyana, Suriname, Guyane, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and Belize.
And that's just the Northern Atlantic.
Well, and Of course I was in Japan, Korea, Iraq and Kuwait, so add those and all surrounding countries.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to use my new-found skills to disssolve the DMZ and instill peace in the Koreas, Stop the mini wars in Africa, get the Columbian government to stop all drug trafficking into the U.S., convince Israel to calm down, get the Kurds, Sunnis and shiites to stop fighting and work together, Convince Iraq, Saudia Arabia and Kuwait to give half their oil to the U.S. for free, and Iran to stop all the "naughty business" with nuclear research.
You would think after all that, and with all my foreign relations skills I could convince MINK to stop being a douche. Well, I'm not God, you know.
It'll be a busy day.
Weather Channel & 30000 scientists sue Al Gore for fraud
This man, fox news, and all his "scientists" are fucking lunatics.
CO2 concentrations have only breached normal nominal ranges from nature alone within the past 20 years.
How can he say stuff like this ? Hes a fucking climatologist, youd think the guy would bloody well know better.
Australia is facing the LARGEST drought we have ever seen, and it is persisting.
That is to say, that previous lakes and river/estuary systems that went close to being dry, still had recoveries due to late rain seasons, and the ecosystems would survive...thats not happening now, the rivers and estuaries are literally dieing, and have no chance of recovery if it continues along this path.
Our farming industry has been decimated, they have been forced to sell off all their cattle / sheep, and destroy all non-essential plants, and trim back to the stalks those that arnt in flower / spawn cycles. If this was the US, and we had a similar system with FEMA, this would of been declared a national emergency and been ongoing for the past 10 years.
I honestly can't remember the last time it rained here, theres this huge water resivour that was built behind my house estate about 70 years back to prevent flooding, because this area was prone to it back then...and now, no rain.
Global warming is a crock ?
What about the berring straight being OPEN for the first time, EVER during the summer months!! ?
Or the perma-frost in the outer rim of the atlantic region (norway, iceland, greenland etc.) thawing out ?
This isnt fairytale shit made up just to scare people, it is actually fucking happening. That this guy has the audacity to pool together 30000 willing idiots with pHD's is a scorn on his curriculm vitae`, im amazed he even manages to keep the weather channel running.
Australia is having to invest in massive scale water infrastructure upgrades, billions and billions of dollars is being pumped into desalination plants and new pipelines to help prevent the death of this country. It is serious, and it has nothing to do with population, the country has had a steady population for quite some time, and increases due to immigration do nothing to dint the overall size of the populus.
McCain Gets The Facts Wrong... Again
Is he saying that if the majority of Americans believe in something it must be true? I just ask because if that's his policy I look forward to adding Greenland to Canada.

John Stossel vs Robert Kennedy on Global Warming
Stossel was pretty contained with his douchebaggery. He didn't interrupt nearly as often as I have seen him do. He did break out the nonsequitor and hyperbole:
"Greenland was called greenland for a reason"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland
Y2K lumping with the killer bees and the like is stupid.
It seems the media is picking up on the theme...
