Sundays -- another dark sci-fi film to get a movie deal

Ghostly says...

I saw the short first, and was curious enough to seek out the Kickstarter campaign. While the short looks nice and flashy, for me it fails to convey all that was given in the more intriguing synopsis at Kickstarter.

I hope that the excessive obscurity of the short is just a side effect of the director trying not to reveal too much of his concept, and that he will prove more capable when it comes to directing the full feature.

VideoSift isn't iPhone friendly (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

No worries, blanketyblank. It's not your fault if the UI is a piece of crap. (And in this case, it's not directly "our" fault exactly because we outsourced the entire front-end design and implementation for the first time ever. But I digress.)

@dag and I have been discussing potentially making some sweeping changes in the not-too-distant future, but I think an immediate change needs to be to put something more like the old mobile site back into place asap.

Before @lurgee mentioned to me how horrible and non-functional it is, I thought the current mobile stuff was working fine (mainly because I never use it and haven't heard any specific complaints [that I can remember]). So now this ST post just makes that point even clearer.

My apologies we've accidentally allowed our mobile site to not be as awesome as we thought it was. We thought the responsive design would allow you to use all the full features of the site while also maintaining the look and feel, but it sounds like it's just totally busted.

VideoSift 5.0 bugs go here. (Sift Talk Post)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

When you say iOS, do you mean iPhone or iPad? iPhone is pretty minimal, in a single column - but iPad is full-featured.

The layout on iOS is sub-optimal. You can't zoom and it's hard to hit the quote button to reply.

Also, the top 15s, top rated comments, etc all appear in one vertical column.

But I'm loving the clean, dieter rams aesthetic on desktop browsers. Kudos

edit: actually, one complaint. On chrome anyway the "top new videos" sidebar, the video titles seem to have some sort of white embossing. It makes it really hard to read.

I would love to see a full feature-length version of this.

Perhaps there could be an external conflict of someone who has figured out what happens to him and tracks him down somehow. Just thinking out loud.

Netflix to Split DVD Service Into New Company: Qwikster

RFlagg says...

The problem is with being two different websites, when a DVD becomes available for streaming, it most likely won't automatically show up on my streaming que. And the loss of the CBS programming (Dexter) and the upcoming loss of Starz, makes their selection on instant shrink greatly. Add to this the deals they were forced into by the movie studios, where DVDs are delayed weeks from release before being available for rent, and then you get the "rental" version that has the menu options for special features but they lead to a screen saying "buy the DVD for the full features"... All in all Netflix is becoming less and less a good deal. The DVD end may still be worth it, but unless they find a way to pick up streaming...

Question about duplicates (Sift Talk Post)

Fedquip says...

I don't know what the official rule is. But I disagree with Grimm.

There is a different value in a short clip, even when the full length version is posted.

For Example I like this Bill Hicks JFK joke, and I appreciate that just that one joke was sifted and made available, even after the full length comedy feature was posted. If I want to direct somebody to just that joke, it means they don't have to watch the full feature.

This would also be relevant for documentaries. Althought we have the 3hr documentary "The Corporation" on here, we also provide shorter clips that get right to certain points.

This is called convenience, it's a good thing and it would be backwards of us to ban clips simply because they are available in longer sifts.

BBC Introduces "No End in Sight"

my15minutes says...

ok. cal and i were just having a profile-comment conversation about whether or not full feature-length stuff 'belongs' here.
methinks there be some discrepancy between the faq, and the siftage.
not that i personally give a shit, of course!

the flick we had been talking about was The War Tapes, which i had already seen, and was glad it was available to as wide an audince as possible, on Google.
same goes for No End In Sight.
