Graphic: Bodycam Footage Of Patrick Harmon's Murder.

radx says...

"A lot of racism comes from projection. White Americans have a stereotype of black people being criminals purely because they can’t acknowledge that it was actually white people that stole them from Africa in the first place. Today, you have the spectacle of black men being gunned down by cops who, by way of mitigation, release footage to show that the victims were running away. This is what happens when you don’t understand or even acknowledge history. You end up in a situation where, when slavery is the elephant in the room in your relationship with African Americans, you think it’s OK to say that you killed one of them because he was trying to escape."

Flyboard® Air Test 1

SFOGuy says...

I was, to my infinite surprise, real.
Guinness just certified it.

"Franky Zapata, the French jet ski champion who invented the Flyboard Air, has set a new Guinness World Record for the farthest hoverboard flight. Zapata achieved the feat Saturday morning off the coast of Sausset-les-Pins in the south of France, riding his Flyboard Air hoverboard for a distance of more than 2,252 meters (7,388) feet). That far surpasses the previous record of 275.9 meters (905 feet, 2 inches), set last year by Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru."

It had to happen some day: Frankie Boyle commented on the US election.

Appetizer: "[...]Ted Cruz: a cross between a permanently disappointed sitcom vampire and the high school yearbook photo of every serial killer of the modern era."

Corbyn was referenced in quite a few articles by Monbiot, Jones and Milne over at the Guardian, but that's about all I read about him. Never really looked into his positions.

However, Frankie dropped this line about him in his column yesterday:

"I honestly don’t think that Corbyn would make a good leader but only because he would quickly take his own life in a highly unconvincing manner on a long country walk, an inquiry taking 15 years to report that he had kicked himself to death."

That sparked my interest. The comment section provided this gem:

"Corbyn is measured, articulate, doesn't take crap from interviewers, and doesn't look morally constipated through having consumed a surfeit of focus group tripe, unlike the other three."

Again, interesting.

Then you brought him up, and Jacobin runs a piece on him. So I suppose I'll be taking a look at him now.

Have you seen anything about the rise of Jeremy Corbyn (a long standing Labour party backbench rebel) in the UK party leadership election?

Mock the Week - What The Queen Didn't Say

dannym3141 says...

I'll preface this by saying that on average i like Frankie. I think he says some stupid stuff, but he may have his own reasons for doing that because he certainly isn't stupid... anyway:

What a crappy joke to lose your job over. He's a lot funnier than that, and i think he's said far worse things both in general and about the queen. I don't personally know Dara or anyone, but part of me thinks that they would have lent their artistic support to him had it been solely about that joke. Many of them are still doing it now and they seem like a tight knit bunch, and they all loved Frankie and he kept their popularity up.

I wonder if a part of him wanted to go for some reason - perhaps he felt his better material (less PG) stuff wasn't getting aired and should be.
