MC Vagina - I Kill People
if i hadnt crashed my minivan i would have totally bumped this after i transferred it to cassette tape format
usually i blasted spanish folk music because it made for a very confusing scene.
The Corries "Flower of Scotland"
We so need a folk music channel
Hugh Laurie: British Slang vs American Slang
"Shawty" is nothing more than the "cool" way to say shorty in the rap world (also, most of them seem to be from the south... whose folk music their songs are LITERALLY all based on... even "The Chronic").
Remember, it's not Usher... it's "Urshur".

LOL. One in 365 sounds about right.
Happy harping! I can barely manage an F chord on the guitar so I'm not even going to try to veer past the traditional in the musical instrument department.

You're welcome. I have one at home, and it's quite hard to do something that actually sounds musical without hurting your teeth. But it's really fun to try.
And hey, I just noticed that we have birthday on the same day! That must be like ... 1 in 365 chance!

Thanks for your help! Good to know.

"What sounds like a didgeridoo" is actually a mouth harp, which is used in folk music all around the world. This guy is damn good at playing it.

The Weakerthans "One Great City!" (in kinetic typography)
I grew up there and (years before this song) it was not uncommon to hear people say "I hate Winnipeg" and mean it -- I've said it too. Reasons:
That said, it's not an ugly, dirty, or crime-ridden city and I don't hate it now that I'm not stuck there. To sum up, however: cold, mosquitoes, and dull.
"Paint It Black" East-Europeany Orchestral Version
the instruments are of Balkan origin. Croatian, to be exact, although these folk music instruments are also known and used in Serbia and parts of Slovenia

I don't have excuses, I just don't have a life so I come here more often than is good for any human being. My first experience here was of bannination for self-linking, so I guess you don't have an excuse either. You knew I was a bastard and you reinstated my account anyway so now you're stuck with me and my Slovenian folk music posts and pop philosophy. Serves you right!
Fear the musician who makes you dance until you drop

(BTW I upvoted Krupo's sift..and in case you know any more notorious catchy Slovenian pop "shit", let me know, I may like/sift it

Russian Red Army Choir - Kalinka Kalinka
I'd love to see more of this stuff getting sifted instead of the mainstream pop culture songs that everyone knows inside and out. Not that they're in any way subpar to the classical folk songs of each country, but folk music from different countries really is awesome and not something one would normally get to hear.
catchy Latvian poprock: Dzelzs vilks - Balerina (2007)
Yes, we discussed this already with regard to "Yva/Barbie"..:)
The production value of this production (images/sound) is indeed lower..
but I like this song (heavy 80s influences, esp. New Order comes to my mind) better.
But aren't we all living more and more in a global culture?

seems to be more authentic and related to the Baltic climate..reminds me of Kandinsky/folk music.
