Driving through 500 fluorescent bulbs
>> ^Peroxide:
notice the heading wereld record? a ha
That's Dutch for world record, but that mustn't have been too hard to guess
WSZ & CNE - J.A.K
Nice effective fluorescent green SFX + groove:)
A real shooting star - Mira leaves a 13 light-year tail
Astronomers are not totally sure about the ultraviolet fluoresence of the Mira trail. They think the bow shock of this star (the star is travelling at almost 300,000 miles per hour relative to the matter the star is colliding with) is producing enough heat to cause the gas to fluoresce. Think HUGE amounts of REALLY hot matter spread out in a gigantic tail in an environment with little conductive or convective heat loss. This thing would glow for a long time. (Like nebula surrounding the remains of a supernova where only the released energy of the event long ago has the shells of gas still glowing.)
Musical Glasses.. On Speed!
the fluorescent light in the video blinks slightly at the least common multiple of the shutter period and 1/(60Hz). This blinking speeds up during the speedy part of the music.
Chimpanzee in Japan Buys Train Ticket and Gets On
Plastiquemonkey, if you ever get a chance to read this, what is with the fluorescent words and reaction shots at the corner of the screen? They're on EVERY Japanese show clip I've seen. It's like they're all the same show!
Microwave a 250w bulb
no question its a plasma. there are no phosphors in incandescent light bulbs, just silica powder for light diffusion. Its the low pressure argon fill in the bulb that is glowing, try it with a clear bulb for a second or two you'll definitely see it is a gas discharge phenomenon. also fluorescent bulbs and neon tubes no matter what the excitation source will always have a plasma inside if they are giving off light. the definition of a plasma is only a gas where some number of the atoms have had their electrons ripped off thus making the whole gas conductive. a candle flame is a very low level plasma (you can even stick electrodes in it and pass an oscillating current through it to make sound!)
Microwave a 250w bulb
I question if they are really making a plasma here... (at least at first.) I think the microwaves may just be causing the phosphor in the bulb to fluoresce.
There are techniques to make plasma in a microwave, that require a carbon source (just put out candle works well). When the bulb blows at the end, I wonder if the filament in the bulb works like that...
Fluorescent bulbs (and neon, probably) will light up near any strong electric field from the induced current, but that's not "plasma" either.
Meh... nothing will top microwaving a CD and getting the spider-web pattern of sparks. ^_-
Domino Ad for Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs
I have fluorescents in a couple of lamps at home, and they are different; the light they generate looks different, they take a split-second longer to turn on, and don't fit in some light fixtures meant to use standard bulbs - but the benefits are all long-term, anyway.
Hyperfluorescence: New Tech to let Surgeons 'See' Turmors!
Dr. Steven Palter created a new laparoscopic technology that enables surgeons to "see" tumors and other pathologies as if they had x-ray vision:
The new “keyhole” surgery technique enables surgeons to see tumors and other pathologies, including endometriosis not otherwise visible. In traditional laparoscopy, the telescope provides the same view as would be seen with the naked eye. In the new method, highly specific filters are incorporated into the light system and telescope so that surgeons can see the tiny amounts of fluorescent light that all living human tissues give off when illuminated, a phenomenon called “autofluorescence”.
Normal and diseased tissues give off different amounts of light. Areas of disease that block fluorescence are seen as dark indigo areas, whereas those that emit fluorescence glow like a firefly. With this new surgical technique I can see disease that is otherwise invisible and treat the patient more effectively.
Mysterious Mose - Stunning puppet/animation film
It's mose, it's wonderful, and you should add "rod" as in 'rod puppetry' to the tags, the colors are almost black-light fluorescent.
Pathetic dude only looking for RED HEADS posts personal ad online
Okay, let me just throw this out there... if an albino breeds with a redhead, would their children be invisible? Would they spontaneously combust if exposed to bright sunlight? Would they fluoresce under ultraviolet? I'm just asking...

Yeah, I was thinking to myself you know what would be nice, confirmation that the world still exists. I put down my espresso, stepped out into the burning sensation of a sun long since forgotten, and what do I hear? The cracking of a slave driver's whip... such is the life of a site monkey I suppose.
Besides, people tell me that my fluorescent tan is very sexy in a cave dweller kind of way.
