Is Your Car Safe From Supermaneuverable Air-Defense Fighters

cloudballoon jokingly says...

There is no observable Stop sign in the video nor IRL at roundabouts though. It would be absurd and a huge faux pas if the animator added Stop signs in it. Yield and Stop signs shouldn't co-exist.

Bah! North Americans just don't get it! This is a very practical, and timely public service video for Bosnians & especially Ukrainians right now. But also a subliminal advert financed by the Western MIC to side hustle their wares to a public facing the brink of possible war from a certain country with MiGs.

eric3579 said:

I'm not buying it!

... my understanding, while very limited, of how roundabouts like this would work is that there wouldn't be stop signs and the general rule is to yield to anyone who is already in the roundabout. Other than that everything else seems dead on.

Signs Your Friend Is A Film Nerd

artician says...

THAT, is amazing. I already commented/upvoted on the thread, but I'm just restating it here because it's... just amazing. I hope the film is good. Even in the trailer there's one guy looking directly at the camera, (a major faux pas in film) so... hopefully it was intentional or at least not representative of the overall film. Regardless... seriously? They did it in ONE TAKE? That's just fucking retardedly insane!

I'm glad I found this before signing off...

A synaptic misfire at best and base ignorance at shameful worst. Not having received a reply after a protracted period I perceived...poorly. Eric kindly addressed my faux pas with me and indicated he was going to solicit your assistance to rectify the situation.

Much to learn on my part it would seem.

Oh, I have seen bans seconded when the account was banned and subsequently Sifty indicated the second did not go through and someone else discarded thereafter. I picked it up thusly.

I apologize for any trouble to you.

lucky760 said:

I'm trying to figure out what happened to that guy's account.

What was the reason for invoking ban on the video? Was it just because his account is banned? And why follow up with the discard?

I'm going to undo both of those things pending further investigation.

Olympic Diver Tom Daley Comes Out

Jinx says...

I noticed that a couple of videos featuring trans people have also been put in the gay channel. The channel description reads "This channel is for videos discussing homosexuality and related issues.". Is being Bi or transgender "related" to homosexuality? I'd agree that it's a bit of a faux pas to use gay as a blanket term.

Anyway, its a prickly subject. While I think calling the channel LGBT and changing the description would be an improvement, it's not exactly perfect either (see the myriad opinions on what letters that acronym should include/exclude. Altho, seeing a 20letter acronym as a channel name would be pretty sweet.).

ps. I get that he's attractive n all, but why is this news

Sotto_Voce said:

It's your upload, so keep it in the Gay channel if you'd like. But why do you think it's appropriate in that channel, given that Daley doesn't claim to be gay?

Is the "gay" channel generally considered to cover the entire LGBT spectrum? If so, I guess I have no objection to it being there.

Sorry to hear that.

Just to be clear, no one was offended necessarily, and everyone who pointed out the faux pas was very nice about it.

My intervention was requested because it seemed to others as if you were intentionally ignoring the fact that your self-link needed to be removed.

I hope you attempt to participate as more than just a lurker moving forward.

G-bar said:

*kill the video due to offending the big guys.
hey all, I understand your rational related to personal videos, which can lead to publicity stunts and perhaps other useless videos clogging the sift. But perhaps you're missing the value behind enforcing this rule. or maybe I'm missing it. In any case, I'll be back into my leech mode and be out of your way.

Bible Slavery: It's A Totally Different Thing!!

chingalera says...

Uhhh, now this phenom you imagine (enhance life for fellow man, yadda-yadda) has de-evolved into what we see worldwide: An unending fabrication of laws which restrict or inhibit the will of your fellow man in order to enable and strengthen the the will of a small percentage of human beings who use humanity to their own ends.

Comparing slavery in America to slavery of the bible is fucking ignorant. Never has there been slavery as cruel and inhumane and fueled by denial and lies than here. To compare U.S. slavery to that of the slaves in ancient Greece or Rome, both cultures whose slaves were an integral class in these cultures, is an historical faux pas of ludicrous proportions.

Succinctly shows that man made god to control man. Man is slowly - too slowly - realising that laws are made by man to enhance life for his fellow man. Not laws made by an imaginary god to enslave him.

Glass How-to: Getting Started

MilkmanDan says...

I was mainly providing counterpoints for those that DO want them, except for privacy concerns (ie., concerned about their own privacy when wearing them). That represents most of the vehement opposition to these things that I've seen, and I just think that is a bit odd. Plenty of other good reasons not to like/want them.

Regarding #2 though, definitely fair point. On the other hand, smartphones have already made an abundance of cameras available to catch our every misstep or faux pas whenever we're in public, so I doubt that these glasses will accelerate that trend any more. Heck, a big chunk of YouTube (or the Sift) is made up of people being caught on camera doing less-than-perfectly-intelligent things; perhaps that ship has sailed.

probie said:

I appreciate the counterpoints but

1) I won't be buying into this latest fad, so no need for a fake account.

2) See #1. And the fancy piece of electrical tape you want to sell me isn't going to help me when I have to adhere it to the sets of glasses staring at me that aren't mine.

That Bike Is STOOPIDTALL

Can't stand when they slow cars down with their attitudes (both road-position and temperament)-Nothing quite a fashion Faux pas either than an Ectomorph in skin-tight spandex....Agreed.

Please don't ram one though; You'd experience an instant and lingering hate for yourself should you ever decide to execute such a fantasy....

First of all, you have not transgressed...at all.

Respective to the perceived faux pas, there are a number of ways that it will occur irregardless of due diligence or intention. Attempts at imaginative titling, ineffective search function, and a multitude of others.

However, framing searches with keywords or descriptive terms is often efficacious.

Otherwise, post well and often.

Good luck and enjoy.

hey sorry man, im really at a loss as to how to find out if it is a dupe. I searched for the youtube title and checked the list that videosift suggests may be duplicates but nothing. How can i make sure i dont do this?

Why Celebrity Apprentice Sucks Away Your Willpower

MilkmanDan says...

OK, this clip was quite interesting once I actually got around to watching it. I skipped it several times because although I like Penn Jillette, I hate reality TV and have less than zero interest in "Celebrity Apprentice" or whatever else.

So, I was tempted to just reply with a snarky "it certainly does suck" (referring to Celebrity Apprentice / Reality TV in general) without even watching the clip. Glad I didn't do that, so here's a sheepish upvote to compensate for my near faux pas.

Coming to America - The King Has Entered the Building (1988)

probie says...

Saw this in the theaters years ago and made the embarrassing faux pas of yelling out "48 Hours!" when the Dukes made their cameo. This was made all the worse by my friend who followed with "It's Trading Places, you dummy!", and a round of laughter by the audience. To this day, I still haven't found a theater seat as deep as the one I was sitting in that night.
