there's a lot here and i just don't have the time/attention to give to this, but I too took issue with Brand's notion of "all profit resulting in deficit." I believe he's using the word "deficit" colloquially, and not as an economic descriptor. But then, who knows what that fast-talking performer really "means."

It's sad that this world punishes people who are good examples for society. If the religious right were "right" they'd probably watch Democracy Now! because it is truthful and insightful. Which leads me to believe that religious people are self-centered and self-righteous exactly what their doctrines speak against. Instead of doing anything good they sit around speaking of how awful the "secular" world is ; hoping their hate spewing leads them to a fantasy land after their lives are over.

Democracy Now! is one of the few shows that cover so many broad international topics, there is debate and facts are presented - the interviews are not rushed ; it is true journalism biased of course but not through shock, hate or fast talking. They are fighting a good fight: against injustice, everywhere.

Wow, this video was a lot shorter, yet more fast-talking then the ones he's been putting out lately. He sped this one up to be a lot faster then the others.

I never said that in order to be open-minded you have to change your opinions. I'm just saying that most American's have the exact ideas that their parents/culture instilled in them. Changing parties says nothing about changing opinions--as you said--the parties have shifted their opinions, which is why people switched parties.

I watched the beginning of this again, and I think we're mistaking what he said for openmindedness and closemindedness. He introduced it as "openness to experience", craving novelty and variety. We don't have some strong resistance to going to see a play -- even one titled the Vagina Monologues.

Social conservatives...would be apprehensive, to say the least.

He later refers to them as open and closed minds, which is probably the source of confusion.

Still...I have yet to see any liberals in this thread--despite responding to my comments--give even a single political issue they have changed their mind on. and when I say issue...I don't mean the iraq war..I mean a fundamental issue...like war in general as opposed to the iraq war.
I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions, but its a really high chance that whatever beliefs you formed growing up...are the exact same beliefs you have today.

I'm not really understanding your point -- if you don't have to change your opinion to be open-minded, how is the fact that no one here is saying "I used to love war, then I decided maybe it's not so great" even relevant?

The video pretty much says that people are affected by their environment with regard to the accentuation of these moral values, so you're agreeing with several of the tenets of the theory...how is his idea rubbish?

Fast-talking, eyes closed for long duration-fake blinks, off-topic asides, insincere expressions, snide tone, "I believe" and "Check on that".....yeah, pretty simple, lying asshole spokesfuck-so....What else is new??? This has been SOP for a long, long time in matters of government-....so what do we do about it????....return to the regularly programmed schedulke-like this one...so we might have a little window into the world of how a few people fuck a lot of people, and continue to do so, regardless of protest, by an emasculated media, and a pussified and inneffectual populace.

Fast talking and missing the point don't answer lifes riddles. You lose, foolish brit.

I felt just as disgusted as the rest of you at the senseless racism and bigotry shown at the beginning. But I'm also troubled by that style of reporting. Of course we were outraged, that was the whole point of the report. A perfect example of this trend is Dateline NBC, it's nothing but outrage mongering. Three times a week you're shown that all repairmen will screw you, that your grandparents will be swindled by fast talking conmen, that everyone is a theif given the right opportunity and that your children will be molested by the internet.

Those are all important topics, and there are real concerns behind them. But the way they're reported is designed to entertain and enrage. And never seems to focus on useful statistics, or the efforts being made to address the problem. Also, the sheer ammount of fucking with strangers against their will seems unethical. Serously, no need to make teenage girls cry with your staged confrontations.

On the other hand it was really nice to see ordinary people defending a muslim woman. But I still don't like the minipulative and unscientific nature of these real life experements.
