Lady Speaks about LGBT protection ordinance

Usually I end up with a strong dislike of city councils or groups like them in general. The viciousness and petty squabbles that erupt in these groups are often blown far out of proportions to the issues that instigated them.
That being said. I honestly am finding it strange that this city council has earned some respect from me.
They know of this lady's illness but continue to allow her to speak in front of them and do not hinder her in any way.
From the article,
"She usually speaks twice a month during the council's open mic sessions, where citizens can talk for up to five minutes on any topic. The council sits patiently until she is done."
Had she been doing this in Dallas Tx, or any of the surrounding cities I have no doubt that she would of been forcibly removed and banned from returning. More likely causing even more damage to her psyche by adding the idea that she is being prosecuted for her ideas and beliefs.
Hats off for this city councils understanding and patients.

Or, they're all just having a laugh at her expense. I find this all really humorous, and yet I can't help but feel a little bad for laughing.

If she does this regularly, somebody should have helped her get help. Ignoring and playing along with the insanity isn't helping.

Was Brian Cox wrong? - Sixty Symbols

Enzoblue says...

This is funny. I was talking to a guy at work about this and told him how what Cox said bothered me and sounded like scientists were making the universe fit their model. I mean, changing the energy of a group of electrons in my hand can cause all electrons in the universe to change theirs? Come on... Now I know it should be changing the quantum state, (not just energy as Cox said), of the electrons can, which is still pretty far out but a bit more believable given my ignorance of QM.

How to pull cat from snowbank

ponceleon says...

Why is everyone so worked up? It's a cat. It has fur. Furthermore, there's no evidence that these people threw the cat out into the snow. The cat was far out and in my opinion, it probably went out there out of curiosity before they started filming and then it came back when it had enough.

Christ, you'd think it was a toddler from the way you people are talking about it... Just to be clear, I'm not saying that I have no compassion for cats, I'm just saying that this cat probably just went for a walk in what it thought was a weird situation and when it had enough, it came back. Cat in the snow for all of 5 minutes. Big whoop.

Edit: case in point. Just a quick search for cats and snow quickly turns up TONS of videos of cats playing in snow. Have a look at this one: http://youtu.be/NrH8RdVBP5A

Animals enjoy the snow for brief periods of time just as much as humans do. When they get sick of it, they come back. Get over your fake outrage and go complain about something else, there's absolutely NOTHING to be pissed off at in this video.

Popping A Balloon Filled With Mercury In Slow-Mo

Arkaium says...

I appreciate the idea, especially considering the risk of small particles sailing out, but I really wish the original poster of the video would have bothered for higher quality. What's the point of slo-mo if you're that far out and post a 720 video that looks like it's only half that in resolution.

Obama Fails On Minimum Wage Pledge -- TYT

NetRunner says...

I followed the Obama campaign pretty closely, and I gotta say that I entirely missed him saying anything about transforming our minimum wage into a living wage indexed to inflation.

I also remember that raising the minimum wage to $7.25 was something that Nancy Pelosi pushed through in the 2007-2008 congress, with the help of one Senator Obama.

And not to beat a dead horse, but this is something Congress needs to pass, not something Obama can do by fiat, and I suspect in this crazy 60-votes-for-everything world we've suddenly entered into, there weren't 60 votes for raising minimum wage even when we had 60 Democrats in the Senate (but I bet there were 55!).

Oh, and on the economics of the matter, I think Cenk is doing a massive disservice to his viewers by telling people that the idea that minimum wage increases lead to increased unemployment is flatly false. Studies have actually shown that to be true, but the right exaggerates the effect far out of proportion with reality. The real left-wing answer isn't to lie and tell people it's not true, it's to then rejoin with "this is why providing unemployment benefits is important, because capitalism can't provide everyone a job that allows them to make a decent living."

Fox News vs Ron Paul

dead_tofu says...

Ron Paul's Message to Occupy Wall Street - END THE FED!

truth-is-the-nemesis says...

does he support universal healthcare?, No.

does he support the equality of gays to marry?, No.

if he shuts down the fed, has he provided all possible replacement?, No.

does he support the functions of government agencies to protect the standards of the air we breath & the food we eat?, No.

does he believe in evolution & the power of vaccines to prevent catastrophic diseases?, No.

i do like the idea of bringing the troops home. however, many other fallouts would happen on his watch that may turn out to not be in the best interest of the country. freedom is a good premise, but the blinders of some of Paul's goals just seem WAY too far out there....

You know, the more i see this type of video, the more i miss being young. I miss that "devil may care" attitude when you thought you were invincible, thought you could achieve anything and live to fight another day. Sadly, with age, comes the reality that the risks far out way the glory and you become, like me, a sensible, practical member of society. Try not to be too harsh on the young; after all we were all superman once.
