What are your political leanings? (User Poll by blankfist)

peggedbea says...

you left out the pacifist, feminist, social anarchist variety.
therefore, i find this poll sexist, classist and thereby oppressive.

the entanglement of lanuage used to describe political leanings is too much. to the point of near meaninglessness.
it's like musical genres, with all the subgenres and subgenres of those subgenres and then when genres mix. it's too much language. language is a useful tool but in the case of modern political discussion, i find it serves as a divisive force.

like just reading the words on the poll alone, i already wanna fight with that voluntarist guy and the national corportatist guy. why? because of the language used to describe his world view.

why should tax dollars be used to prevent obesity?
Because it's smart. $1 spent on prevention now stops $100 in tax money spent for hoist crane to deliver fatty to ER.

We have very similar laws here in Australia- paid paternity leave as well. I support it with my tax dollars and gladly.
You frame your comment like it's outragous for tax dollars to go towards jungle gyms and paternity leave. That makes me sad. <-see?
In my experience with the US, - more jungle gyms would not go astray - for the purposes of preventative health care. (What country has the highest rate of childhood obesity - any takers?)

Dag, perhaps if it were your taxes paying for the Jungle Gyms you might see it differently. At my workplace there is a room, on every floor that allows for breast feeding. It is also federal law to allow for maternity, and paternity leave. That's right. paternity, too.

But that said, I would rather pay taxes for this bullshit, then for those foreign entanglements.
You know the hardest thing about taxes for me? The goddamn paperwork, and all the exemptions; how the fuck am I gonna keep up with all of that shit. For me it's like getting stuck in traffic. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Obesity is a choice, that will probably take a Tax to solve. I would wager that everyone is obese if they use BMI. Body Mass Index does not take into account your fitness level, nor does it take into account a persons fat to muscle ratio. BMI as I understand it is a measurement ordained by the government, because it's science! It is like going to the doctor and having them weigh you while wearing shows, pants, and a belt. The only way to get a valid measurement is by taking all of your clothes off, or subtracting the weight of the clothes, you still end up naked. That is why fighters weigh in naked. Bah, enough on what I think about that.
Of course the US has problems with Obesity, but why should Federal Income tax money be used for that? When they could tax fatty foods, non diet soda drinks, and sodium enriched foods? Like the Suntan tax.
At the end of the year, my pocket book is destroyed by the bullshit.

wait, so are you against people having their jobs protected while they take a short sabbatical to care for a family member?

Logical Evidence That God Can Not Exist

kceaton1 says...

He brings up thermodynamics ( you could add QED into this to make it even stronger, quantum foam and what not...), but entropy would be what he is talking about. Entropy can be seen as something that is the same homogeneous "thing" (quarks, photons, hydrogen; or in the case of QED potential energies) breaking down by "physics" or the physical mechanics and properties of the universe into a less homogeneous "thing". Hence energy then particles then elements, stars, black holes, planets, galaxies, cluster groups, the universe. It never really changed it is merely entropy that distinguishes most of these things.

Time itself may induce entropy, but we still have things to figure out in that area. What QED teaches is that you don't need anything special at all to create the universe, "chance" is more than enough. Throw in time or entropy and wallah, instant mechanical system created with it's own mechanics and in superposition to anything outside to detect it unless they become entangled to us. If they measure anything our "universes" would combine into a hybrid (most likely--impossible for now to begin thinking if this would be possible).

Recently scientists have been able to "tune" cobalt niobate (the magnetic spins) into a quantum critical state (superposition) and more recently they've done the same with electrons. The magnetic "tuning" frequency they used to accomplish this was extremely close to the Euler's number: e. "Euler's number" may be linked to the appearance of entropy merely being a function of mechanics that me be described by physicists later as an algorithm. If e is linked it would explain many observable systems we already have knowledge of. You can see it already at work in multiple situations. It also has a strong correlation with: fractals, golden ratio, golden spiral, Fibonacci sequence, etc... It's also an irrational number which may cause the algorithm to seemingly never stop; you could zoom in and out on the universe and it would continually look the same in correlation with an universal algorithm.

I hoped I made my thoughts clear enough; I dumbed down a lot of the material hopefully I still get the point across. It may be that the universe is merely just potential energies with an algorithm thrown in for spice. Other universes would have their own algorithm and constants like e.

@NetRunner, I'm not sure I understand what you mean seeing me "do these things countless times". If you're remarking about my consistent desire to use words based on a word's original lingual connotation as the prime factor in determining someone's meaning, then I'm guilty as charged. You may continue to enjoy language as a memorization technique no doubt taught to you lazily by a teacher whose idea of educational integrity was to grade based on ability to commit to memory rather than deconstruct the sum of its parts.

On that topic, anyone who believes being against big government and for more individual freedom is demonstrating partisanship, then I think we've discovered another grand achievement from our lackluster public school system.

It's true Jefferson was a man who spoke of "the people", and he practically coined it. He was a self avowed Republican, however. Not to be confused with the modern Republican, but of the root meaning of republicanism. He also believed in a strong democratic core whereby the choice of the men and women entering and exiting office would be chosen by a majority as opposed to an aristocratic minority, which is how elections were conducted at the start of the US. I agree elected officials should be selected by a majority. I don't believe, as didn't Jefferson, majority decision gives right for the popular group to take away rights and liberty and instill dependence and tyranny in its place, which is the democracy rule that Democrats and Republicans enjoy today.

I believe in persuasion over coercion; voluntarism over compulsion; individualism and self-governance over collectivism and dependence. Look how your precious system of big government has failed us routinely and driven us into entangled alliances and wars abroad. Your continued answer to this will surely be "but we can make it better." No. We cannot, otherwise it would've been better by now. It's only gotten worse.

Substance dualism

brain says...

If elementary particles undergoing quantum effects isn't physical, then I don't know what is.

>> ^raverman:
This makes some broad generalisations to make a point specifically against religion.
Most quantum theory also enters this area of non-physical substance. By this measure we should stop all research and say "only what we can physically percieve is real".
Dark matter is considered to exist because it is inferred by the nature of the physical universe. In yet it has not been physically proven to have substance.
Quantum entanglement was impossible in earlier physics. Physical objects should not be able effect each other in a seemingly non-physical way.
Most mathematical theories of the universe require non-physical substance to complete the picture. Extra dimensions, time as a 4th layer, Branes of time and space.
If non-physical can exist outside the our 3 physical percievable dimensions it says more about our tools for detection than it does about the known vs. unknown of the universe.
