Monkey Island theme over the years

jmd says...

Ahh yes, my favorite past time, midi music. I picked up my first cd rom drive and with it, the must have cd game of all time, 7th guest. 7th guest was a SVGA game (That sucker was 8 bit color! 256 colors and some how they pulled off transluscent digital video footage over the back ground) that used Midi for all its music. I discovered the game had an easter egg, the 2nd disc had a red book cd audio track of most of the games soundtrack played on the SCC1 roland board. After hearing just how good these midi files could sound, I quickly got into the world of PC Midi. I upgraded my SBpro to an SB16 multi cd, this monster not only supported the proprietory connector for my cdrom drive, but also an MPU expansion connector for a midi daughter board. The first daughter board I got was creatives wave blaster, but it was pretty weak. I figured out if I wanted a really good midi sound, I would need to plunk down some seriouse cash, and it would probably need to be from roland. So I picked up the roland SCD-15 (I still have that thing! but nothing to plug it into now) and while not quite as good as the dedicated SCC1, it was enjoyable. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJlkz6V0VOQ to hear how it sounded)

I picked up the SBlive as soon as it came out and proceeded to knock several megs of instruments into that sucker as well. I even put together a sound font called musica theoria (its hilarious when I google that now). My thirst for playing with midi music now is dried up now, but I have a sizeable collection of chip music, sound tracks from my fav gameboy/genesis/snes/ps1 (the entire final fantasy 7-9 series is chip music) so I can hark back on old memories of how music evolved over the decades.

Pixar's Hidden Secrets - Easter eggs in their films

spoco2 says...

^ Um... I didn't need to do any 'research' as it was all obvious from the get go:
1. The design of Wall-E was not even started let alone anything like what he looks like in the movie at the time Toy Story came out. And seeing as they said that the meeting happened AFTER the first Toy Story had come out they hadn't even DISCUSSED the concept of Wall-E at the time that movie came out... so that's pretty much blown it from the first fake 'easter egg' right there.
2. Every one of their fake ones was a 'wait, that was too hard to see, let's go back and watch that again in slow motion.' If you'll notice, Pixar don't really do that for their easter eggs, they put them in plain (if somewhat easy to miss most of the time) sight.
3. They just look pasted in. (Admittedly this is the sort of thing any 'FAKE' caller can say with nothing to back it up)
4. Pixar don't put in things that don't belong in the world they've been put in... hence a Wall-E wandering around in a present day world of Cars isn't something they'd do... they may make Wall-E a balloon or a toy or something, but not a robot in a Nascar pit.

All of which struck me as I watched it the first time, all of which are pretty obvious if you think about it (especially the first one).

I jumped on as an attack on the general acceptance of almost anything on the web displayed by so many. It's so easy to dupe people, and that makes me sad for critical thinking.

lies, and pretty lame ones at that.
Sorry, I do like the easter eggs that Pixar put into movies, but these were pretty poorly done.
This MAY have been funny if they slowly ramped up how obvious and ridiculous the 'easter eggs' were, but as it stands, it's just pretty crap

Removed from the Lies channel. Have you done the work to know that some of the easter eggs at the end are phony? Just because you think it's obvious doesn't make it so. Maybe the easter eggs at end are fake, but it's still too soon to conclusively prove that.

Also, if I were the software developer working on this project, I'd hide an easter egg in the system that blares "DEATH TO ALL HUMANS" if the machine vision detects the right visual trigger (maybe a picture of Hello Kitty.)

Instead of sifting games.. Why don't a few of you clever ones make ones somehow incorporating member names or avatars. You could include them on the page w/ the crossword puzzle.

Or.. seasonal events... Lucky and a couple of you brainy boys out there could make an 'easter egg' hunt for next month. Place little tidbits around the site? However that can work out..
