How to Handle the Police When You're Videotaping

chingalera says...

up voted for all the times I have personally told cops to go fuck themselves. Some reacted as expected or were otherwise prone without my attitude, and the others took it very well....and those that did not, simply, dicks.

The ones that carried-out their duties as human beings are the ones who most likely are no longer police officers. These cunts that are cops forever??....They're the problem, and the exception is no where near the rule.
If one has the dick costume at one's disposal worn with limited use and in times of necessity, one can so can spot the douche who's boudoir contains but the one suit.-

Takes one to know one, explained.

If an exchange with a cop has no out but that of arrest or jail, he's gonna get the full-on, "Question why I took this job and my own humanity and manhood" speech on the way downtown, the fucking piece of shit.
Saints and criminals, sinners and cops, some nay MOST cops, don't deserve the responsibility-

Baby Survives Plane Crash in Dad's Arms

deathcow says...

I would typically agree with you except it is generally shown to be wide open, well cleared, quite a thoroughfare. I imagine the pilot is familiar with the roads. I know which major roads I could land on up here for example without any type of wire crossings. Every plane landing on road event up here I read about ends up with fine people and fine aircraft. I'm not saying land on a road in downtown or Los Angeles. I'm saying look at the big ass road under the aircraft with no cars and no apparent hi tension wire crossings.

You might expect that a local pilot be familiar with major roads, like highway 89/91 pictured in the video. Take a look around on 89/91 and see if you think it looks safe:
http://goo.gl/maps/bL3Rq
That's the first major road seen in the video.

I think that's five lanes? I saw two cars on the entire stretch in the video. (Not the easiest to pick them out.)

Smartypants gets Tasered

cluhlenbrauck says...

I don't really get this whole tazer deal.
2 older gentlemen on the heavy side guarding a door. Seriously you needed a taser? Seems to me these guys are just not fit for the position.

I work with a few security guards downtown that deal with all sorts of drug addicts, drunks, crazy people and outright idiots. They aren't issued anything.
I hear stories of them wrestling guys to the ground almost every week.

these 2 just wanted to test their new tazer and the situation was all the green lights they need.

justified? not even the slightest.

Funny ya mentioned that...a very evocative number with a simple melody, ripe for parody:

When you're alone and you are getting a boner,
You can always go, downtown
A pocket of Franklins', tap the buffet like Homer
Seems to help I know, downtown

Strollin' down the sikewalk with a forty and a fatty,
Hand-job on the subway from a teenager named Patty,
How can you lose? The skirts, are much higher there,
You can forget what her name is, maybe tug on some hair, when you're

Downtown, things will be great when you're
Downtown, ten-minute dates, when you're
Downtown, every thing's waiting for you....

Don't hang around and let your problems surround you
There are nudie shows, downtown
Maybe you know some little places to go
where you don't need clothes, downtown

Listen to her moaning, on your silent Motorola,
Motion to her horny friends, before the night is over, happy again...
The lights are so dim in there,
You can diddle for hours, and nobody cares

So go
Downtown, where all the sprites, delight
Downtown, maybe you'll start a fight
Downtown, where did you park your car now.....?

Downtown

And you may find somebody kind to help and understand you,
Someone who is rough like you who forcefully commands you,
To take off her thong, so maybe I'll see you there
We can forget all our morals, and get all the stares

So go
Downtown, things will be great when you're
Downtown, in a neighboring state, you go
Downtown, you've already burned your town down
Downtown, downtown, downtown, downtown

I've always thought this song is so evocative of its subject. I don't just mean lyrically... the whole feel of it. I can clearly picture a cab ride through SoHo (or Soho for that matter), bright lights and all that. Really great song.

What to do with all that Canadian Snow...

Sagemind says...

lol, I know, I recognized it as humor. It's all good.
Sorry, it wasn't your comments that got me talking so much as the topic.
Sorry if I came off abrasive in any way

I've lived in Quesnel for quite a few years as well as Vancouver, My wife lived in Kamloops as do several of my friends. Surprisingly, yes, even Quesnel, trucks it's snow out of the downtown core, (smallish town that it is.) They get a lot of snow there which stays and builds up all winter, trucking it out is the only way to remove it from city streets without plowing it up onto the downtown sidewalks

cheers

They were talking about 'cities'.

Maybe you could argue PG or Kamloops, but Quesnel?

Also, just in case you missed it, that was humour. I don't even wear jammies, I sleep nekkid.

What to do with all that Canadian Snow...

Sagemind says...

I 'am' from Western Canada.
In Kelowna, they use this method to clear all the snow from the downtown areas. I've also seen this method used in Kamloops, Quesnel and as for north as Prince George. I also know for a fact that this method is used in the Lower mainland (aka Vancouver) in many areas.
I know snow melts fast right downtown Vancouver, but in the outlaying areas and on the hills where snow doesn't melt so fast, this is the best choice in snow removal since they can't just push the snow up on sidewalks in downtown areas.

Hmm, well in Western Canada we have a different approach. In Calgary they just ignore it, and here in Vancouver we just huddle up in our warm jammies sipping cocoa until it goes away.

When Should You Shoot a Cop?

messenger says...

@Fletch

At times I've chosen to just take all sorts of abuse from cops. Other times I've resisted the abuse, and the cops have made it worse. I hate myself when I just take the abuse, and I am bitter and resentful towards the cops and my government when I suffer the "worse". I prefer the latter feeling, so fuck those cops. Abusive cops are on a list with child sex abusers of people who do incredible damage and should be eliminated from society. The good news about cops is that their fuckeheadedness is institutional, so that can technically be changed without killing. Society is becoming more and more aware of civil rights due to Facebook and the like, so I don't think bad cops are going to be as prominent in the near future.

I had an incredible encounter with a perfect cop last night, for instance. I was taking part in a civil disobedience protest screwing up traffic downtown, and when the cops were finally able to get through, the supervisor just came up and chilled with us a bit, asked us what was going on, what we were protesting, started helping us out, and then really politely asked some of us if we could do it a little bit differently. We were mostly happy about his respectful stance and complied. It was fantastic. Hopefully this kind of behaviour will become the norm.

What knife fights are really like

chilaxe says...

>> ^fuzzyundies:

A guy was stabbed to death in my apartment building last night, apparently at a drug-fueled party. I live in an upscale area (heart of downtown Santa Monica), so it's not just an issue of "cleaning up a ghetto". Crazy passion knife rage can happen anywhere.
I had a lot of time to think today about what I'd do if I'd been at that party. I say appease, beg, bargain and run.

Also, when I visited Santa Monica, I was expecting a beautiful California paradise, but I was surprised to find that the only areas I saw seemed like a dirty ghetto.

If you live in close proximity to that, you're at an elevated chance of some of that dysfunction bleeding over.

The range of outcomes is the same in good neighborhoods and in San Francisco's incompetent urine-soaked ghettos, but the averages are very different.

It wouldn't be possible for a smart person to be murdered at that party, because smart people wouldn't be at that party.

Bill Moyers Essay on Saving Libraries

Porksandwich says...

Local library here is pretty good, you can do almost everything online and get a fairly good selection of books online. For those not online you can have them transferred to your local library for pick up...along with a lot of other stuff.

Their main branch is kind of a pain to go to because it's downtown and the parking situation sucks at times, with fairly expensive parking lots or meters. And it houses some things you can only get see on those premises such as family trees and rare books/etc.

They updated the online catalog software to suit what people wanted just recently.

They run a whole lot of learn-to classes, speakers, etc. I haven't seen any of those I was particularly interested in, but still cool to see them make the effort. I think their primary crowd on these are more in the older age brackets or kids.

I believe they could offer a more robust online selection, but I have this nagging feeling that the book publishers discourage this via pricing and weird restrictions that they may not be able to comply with or unwilling.

Libraries are a pretty big opponent to restriction of freedoms to the individual granted under fair use. Without fair use they probably wouldn't exist....and we know the copyright groups have been actively pushing for more restrictions on fair use. I wouldn't be too surprised if they were behind library budgets being slashed dramatically in many locations. The budget for libraries is probably paltry compared to a lot of other things that didn't get axed.

Protesting a Protester

Sagemind says...

I could stand downtown town and two hours and never have a black person walk by.
Does this make it racist to be downtown?

On that same note, I could stand in a mall in Vancouver for quite some time before a white person walked by.
>> ^Lolthien:

This is a great sentiment, and more power to the guy. But I couldn't help but notice with the exception of a single woman in the first ten seconds. Every single person in this video was white.
