Digital Cinema technology

I saw Surf Up's in a DLP theatre here in Montreal. While the movie was standard Disney/Pixar fare the clarity of the picture and sound was just astounding to say the least. I don't think I want to watch movies anyway else but on DLP now.

Purists as always gawked about how 'clinical' and 'cold' the image is and that 35mm will never be replaced, am sorry but fuzziness and long reels don't translate into 'warm' cinema or anything like that.

But then again it's the same thing they said about analog photography and look where we are now.

Could using a LCD, delay what you see on the screen by 1/20s

krumzy, by my (admittedly very quick) calculations, you'd need ~10,000 Km of cable to introduce a 50ms delay--somehow this seems unlikely.

The speed of light in copper is ~200,000Km/sec.

I vote for the non-native resolution proposal. Some sets may by default do some additional scaling/smoothing between frames--at least on my DLP, you can turn that off with what is called "GAME" mode.

Wii-diculous - Playing the Wii in a Movie Theater

Yeah, I wonder what kind of projector they're using that can go that big.. a regular DLP? Doesn't seem like it'd have the power. Or they could be in a theatre with digital projection, with might take video inputs..

Projection Monumentale - A new video projection way...

I dunno.. that intro sequence had me expecting something a lot more advanced. This looks like a couple DLP projectors and some 3d animation built around the geometry of the target surface. Cool, but not as cool as that 3d neon grafitti into the intro sequence.
