This was a 9/11 charity event to benefit NYPD and NYFD survivors.

Teddy Sheringham hospitalizes Gordon Ramsey

Auger8 says...

Heh well said I was going to side with Gordon at first after seeing the hit, then I remembered he's a totaly dick.

>> ^Quboid:

It really didn't look that bad, I suspect if it had been a professional player on the receiving end, rather than a middle-aged professional potty-mouth, he'd have got up and played on - after rolling around in apparent agony until Sheringham got booked, of course.
The really nasty ones are when the player's standing leg is caught so their leg and foot below the point of contact can't give way due to being planted in the turf. Then the point of contact is what gives away; the bone breaks. This is what can end careers.
Ramsey may actually have caused the most damage himself, he landed jarringly on his elbow and could have dislocated his shoulder. It wasn't a very nice challenge, but there's plenty of people who would love the chance to do much worse to Ramsey.

Louis CK on Consumers and Capitalism (part 1/3)

kymbos says...

Interesting concept. I think the internet will save us, though. His point about music is wrong, for starters. I'm sure there were awesome alt-music stores back in the day, but the net has allowed me to broaden my music tastes exponentially. Largely through illegal downloads, admittedly. We used to have to pay through the fucking nose for a cd here in Oz. You had to wait forever to listen to anything at the stores, so you'd often just hit and hope. The kids of today have the whole world of music to access online - I'm jealous of their opportunity. He paints a picture of a youth that doesn't use that opportunity, and I'm not sure I agree from what I've seen.

I take his point about the social dislocation of modern society, though. I bought a house recently, and when I need a tradie I just find one online, regardless of where he's from (ie, not necessarily local). If I need help on the house I get my family from around the country to come visit - I don't really know anyone around well enough to ask for a hand. I'd like to be more engaged with my local community, and maybe the lack of local businesses I use is part of that. I'm not sure what the world really looked like that Louis was describing.

The Fifth Estate: 'You Should've Stayed at Home'

Pprt says...

You understand why the cops were there right?

It wasn't to protect you or "silence" your thoughts.
>> ^notarobot:

"Why would this event be any different?"

Because YOU weren't there witnsess the event. Because YOU didn't have your shoulder dislocated by an officer in full riot armour. Because YOU did not have your prosthetic ripped from your leg. Because you were not arrested without any warrant or concern for your civil liberties.

There are a lot of good cops in this world, Pprt. I have a strong belief that the real good cop bad cop ratio is something to the tune of 99:1 but that "one" left over can sometimes give the other 99 an undeserved reputation and THAT is exactly what this ISN't about.
The truth is that when an officer is ordered to do something that makes him feel like he needs to take his name tag off to execute that order (and keep his job) then something is wrong. If there are plain clothes officers able to leap out of the crowd to protect, what? Why were there plain clothes officers among the crowd NOT preventing vandalism of private property and their own police vehicles?
Why?
We know that police are sometimes ordered to commit the very acts forbidden by law. We know that police have broken the law so to twist public perception of otherwise peaceful protests because THEY HAVE PUBLICLY ADMITTED doing so. It is also very likely that an inquiry could reveal similar tactics used during the G20.
What is wrong with this? A group of well trained, capable individuals, sworn to uphold the law and protect the people used against the very people they are trusted to protect. Orders passed down through subterfuge, obfuscated behind veils of lies.
And 99 of them know it's wrong.

Seattle officer punches girl in face during jaywalking stop

Porksandwich says...

Dunno, black dude in light blue shirt looks like he thought shit was going down and was trying to keep black girl in the pink from getting involved. So, one person there thought it was a good idea to let the cop make his arrest instead of interfering.

And when she got hit black dude in light blue shirt was still trying to pull her away more forcefully.

Girl being arrest throughout most the video, from what can be seen was pretty being pretty irrational, just repeating the same things over and over and fighting back...and not calmly at any point. So unless that cop was trying something really serious prior to the video starting up....I think he was in the right since she seemed to emotionally distressed to deal with the situation calmly. Otherwise, crying or acting out would be an automatic get out of a ticket. Just as if a police officer pulled someone over for some traffic violation and the guy behind the wheel was screaming and raging about him stopping him (like a drastic over reaction that doesn't subside as seen in video)...he should detain him as well for his own safety and the safety of others because he isn't safe to be on the roads.

Crowd gathering....she wasn't in mortal danger, so them filming is probably the best bet to have the truth of the situation brought out. But I have to say the video reminds me of the court shows you see on TV when they get upset and keep repeating the same stuff over and over louder and louder so you can't hear what the other side is saying. Even the guy shooting the video was doing it when the cop punch the girl in pink who was getting physically involved in it.

And girl in pink backed down pretty quick when he socked her in the face, so I don't think she was expecting to have a man try to hurt her back. I think he was just trying to arrest the girl without seriously hurting her, because there are some arm locks you can get a person in where it'll break or dislocate the arm if they keep struggling. And they are bad enough to make the UFC guys who take punches and kicks to the head to tap out instead of dealing with recovery from the damage the hold can do.

Rewarding original video uploaders/owners (Howto Talk Post)

Sorry about my above comment my reply got jumbled there for some reason.
Can they tell on youtube with regards to view count? I've wondered if the embed video views count or not to the youtube numbers. Not in the star points on youtube but in the number of views there generally. Does anyone know if an embedded youtube video is dislocated from it's original and not counted with it's views?

I thought about this too - and @<a rel="nofollow" href="http://howto.videosift.com/member/Hybrid" title="member since January 29th, 2007" class="profilelink">Hybrid's conclusion is what I came to as well.

I would say that for the most part, YouTube uploaders appreciate exposure of their content - as a reward. They do watch their stats on YouTube and can tell when VideoSift has driven a lot of views to their content.

Hot Air Balloon Crashes Into Tent

arvana says...

I found a news story here.

Synopsis: the passenger was ejected when the balloon hit the tent, fell about 30 feet and dislocated a hip. The balloon shot up from the weight change, and the pilot made an emergency landing, apparently without major injury on hitting the ground.
