The Truth Behind Eating Before Bed

Police officer sucker punches man, charges him with assault

lantern53 says...

I think the guy stripped his own dignity when he got drunk.

But what about this possibility? The black cop and the black drunk share a black history, they understand each other, and when the black cop punches the guy in the face, both know that the drunk will understand it.

Anyway, the black cop probably learned from slavery that punching black men in the face is acceptable, and the black drunk knows from slavery that getting punched is what happens.

So...somebody tell the lawyers.

Bottom line...fault lies with white people, who enslaved black people.

Another way to handle it would be for the cops to ignore drunks, and when the drunk falls face first into an alley and the dayshift cop comes across him, he just calls the squad, who pack the guy off to the detox center. No harm, no foul. We just raise taxes to pay for all the additional detox centers and ambulances. People will be happy to pay extra just so there is peace on the street...and the occasional drunk to step over.

I always thought that detox stuff was rubbish, but never knew the lengths these people would go to push this trash onto gullible idiots. Why has this (and homeopathy for that matter) not been banned for false claims?

Chicks with D#cks Reach Around For A Chicken Fried Fix

eric3579 says...

Drag queens Detox, Vicky Vox, and DQ’d Drag Race contestant William Belli pay a tongue-in-chicken ode to pro-anti-gay restaurant chain Chick-fil-A with an “endorsement” video set to Wilson Phillips’ “Hold On.”

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly‘s PopWatch, Belli says she recently learned about the company’s ties to anti-gay groups and decided to write the song after getting diarrhea from eating at a Chick-fil-A.

“The fact that they come after gay people, let me come for you,” Belli said. “The worst endorsement for a Christian chicken eatery is three drag queens.”

TYT: Have Republicans stopped pretending they're not racist?

dystopianfuturetoday says...

It seems to me that the people have already made up their mind on equal rights for black people, way back in 1964, when they demanded our government give black people equal rights. Why on earth would we want to go backwards? Your reasoning makes no sense. Time for a Flavor Aide detox.

The more I look at Ron Paul, the more obvious it becomes to me that he is a terrible candidate. He has so many indefensible positions on civil rights and economics. He's just another states rights neo confederate who has captured the hearts and minds with some effective hype. Look closer. >> ^vaire2ube:

Yea actually, if we were not in charge of the UN or could dismiss it at will, then one might argue that the UN troops could do what they do, in other countries, currently, which is to be there at all.
It's fun to run things when you're in charge.
Also, letting people decide for themselves means you have a process and a chain of trust at the conclusion.
I put forth, per Dr. King, that "the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice" ... and to that end, we can let people be bigots and racist if they want... eventually, people will see that all humans are more similar than different and small-minded views will be condemned with the force of all history. I certainly don't mean to imply that if Ron Paul is ignorant then that is acceptable -- i'm saying, letting people come out against things means eventually they have to defend their reasoning, and that is where progress can be made.. IF enough people have access to information.
Or something. Maybe we'll all just forget. Whatever it takes, it will take Time not a new president.
I was going to vote for Obama before I forced myself to look more at Ron Paul, and now I'll write in Ron Paul. Obama will still win per recent election history and his victory margins last time. QFT.

@TheSluiceGate
hey thanks for the response my friend.(though in bullet form..blech)
i now have a clearer picture in what you were trying to convey, and if i have your stance correct:

1.you found this video to be a glorification of drug addiction and not the religious aspects.

i disagree and your previous comments do also.i disagree that this was a glorification of any kind but rather ones mans courage to put himself out there and explain where he was and what helped him walk away still breathing.nobody goes around and broadcasts how they are an addict and have lost control of their lives.i feel this video is more of public service for those who may suffer and silence and feel they are alone, which is quite common among addicts.we can disagree on this...our perceptions just differ.as for the religious aspects may i just point to your last paragraph.notice anything?

you are free to chastise this man for his conversion to christianity and putting his recovery on giving himself over to jesus.that is not only your choice but your right but please dont say your premise was not influenced by the religious aspects when it obviously was.you said so in your own words.

2.you are an atheist and disagree with my use of "redemption" because of its religious connotations and would prefer "recovery".

i can agree that "recovery" is also an apt term to use but it does not convey in a complete sense what "redemption" conveys.
you dont "recover" from guilt and shame.
you are "redeemed" and this does not have to have anything to do with religion but it does has EVERYTHING to do with brutal honesty.to have the courage to face oneself with eyes wide open and accept the choices...AND consequences.this is a process that needs to happen to start the healing process which can only begin with forgiveness.
to forgive oneself.
this does not,by implication, necessarily mean that jesus has to come in to your life.
or buddha.
or allah.
or the great spirit.
but usually for addicts it is something outside themselves.this could be a person you greatly admire and respect which could help fascillitate a similar outcome.
hence my captain crunch reference.

i would also like to address that your disagreement with me is actually an agreement.
while i agree with your assesment on my over-simplification let me just point out:
emptiness=psychological
pain=physical
my over-simplification was to shave off all the myriad redundancies to reveal the nugget/core.

3.you are not some big meanie.

my apologies if i implied that you were in any capacity.i chose my words carefully in order to provoke you into revealing your TRUE motivation and in that context i succeeded but allow me to apologize for the manipulation.
i didnt want to respond in a presumptuous manner, even though i had suspicions to your true dislike of this video.

and here was my general thinking.
why would somebody find a video where a man admits,on VIDEO,how he almost killed himself due to his addictions and lost that which was most dear, and his consequent "recovery",be perceived as a bad thing?
and the only conclusion i could come up with was the "jesus" factor as being the bitter pill.
just look at the views to votes ratio.you are not exactly alone my friend.

would you feel the same way if this man had started recovery from meeting a distinguished scientist? or philosopher?
who helped him see the world differently and hence gave him the courage to face what he needed to face?
i presume (falsely maybe) that you and many on this site would have cheered this man for his courage but since this man gave his life to jesus and credits jesus for his recovery he is relegated to the silly bin.
my response is:whatever works for ya.do it and do it NOW.if that means jesus or the FSM then by all means...have at it.

i AM an ex-junkie.
and i dont mean i had a small "problem" but i was the rip-snorting we-are-going-for-a-fucking-ride kinda junkie.
the wake up across state lines on the beach-how the fuck did i get here kinda junkie.
i assist those who wish to be clean.
i let them stay in my spare room so they can go through detox (worst experience a person can endure imo).
i do not judge.
i do not preach.
i make it ok.
because i am fluent in the language of the broken and forsaken because i was once just like them.
this is mainly where my "nobody can do it alone" comment was inspired.because a junkie cannot get clean by him/herself.their self loathing is too dominant and the desire to numb themselves from their own past too strong an impulse to ignore.

so when you see a junkie you may (rightly so) see a person who has made some bad choices.maybe you hope they will seek treatment and get better but they need to accept responsibility.
i agree with that, but you judge them while not understanding THEY have already judged themselves and their judgment is so much harsher than you could ever imagine.they believe themselves to be less than nothing and execute that verdict with a raging self-hatred everytime they use.which then becomes a never-ending cycle of guilt and shame.

i attempt to break that cycle for those who seek to become healthy and whole again.sometimes i succeed but more often i fail.
so if jesus is a part of somebody finding the strength and courage to face their demons then who are we to judge?

i do hope you take this comment in the spirit it was written.
with honesty and respect.i truly appreciate your contributions to this subject (which is obviously close to home for me) and indulging my curiosity with how an atheist views subjects such as these.
it would be interesting to see how many votes a video similar to this would get if there was no reference to jesus or god.

thank you TSG.

Major Panel: Drug War Failed; Legalize Marijuana

MaxWilder says...

"Making drugs more available will make it harder to keep communities safer."

What obvious bullshit! How do they sleep at night??

If all drugs were sold at CVS and Walgreens, and every purchase came with a pamphlet on how to get free detox and treatment (funded by the taxes on the drugs), then use would go down (longterm, as addicts got help) and crime would drop like a rock, especially gang crime and border crime. It's simple logic!

Fear-tainment

rougy says...

I was going to quote somebody up there, but I don't know where to begin.

It's true, we can't keep up the fight all of the time. That's where I am right now, and have been since the winter of 2008: burned out.

And it's true, the best you can do is to fight were you can, when you can.

And, last but not least, the less television in our lives, the better.

This is especially true, to me, for anybody who wants to pursue any kind of art form: writing, painting, drawing, acting, animation, music, dance.

Television truly is a drug. It makes you feel less lonely even though you're sitting in a room by yourself. The commercials are deadly; they make it extremely difficult to hold a consistent thought-line for longer than five, or ten minutes, max.

For all the good TV gives us--and there are some things that are undeniably good--it takes a lot more away from us.

I've found that it takes about 30 days to "detox" from having a television in your home.

Just my two cents tossed into the well.

CNN: South Florida's Pain Clinics Or Narcotic Pill Mills?

enoch says...

very awesome of you revted,
and thanks for making some clarifications and also adding a personal touch concerning your practice.
my family is in the medical field and they have stated similar dilemma's as you have here.on one side you have responsible doctors such as yourself and on the other you have inscrutable practitioners who are just there for the quick cash.
instead of going through a whole diatribe on addiction let me just state a quick anecdote.
a former student of mine, bright and quick-witted,a stellar student heading to graduate school.in one year she was in two car wrecks and damaged her back something awful.she was over-prescribed pain meds and within a few months this brilliant young woman went from a casual pot smoker to a pill head.here is the tragic part:she never realized until too late.she was taking her meds as prescribed but when the insurance ran out she found herself host to a myriad of problems that she could not understand i.e:fever, nausea, cold sweats, horrific nightmares, insomnia and her back was worse than ever.not understanding withdrawal symptoms from pain meds she bought off the street some painkillers and LO and BEHOLD..she felt better.

sadly it was i who informed her that she may be an addict and in her rage and disgust at me for even suggesting such tripe has discontinued our friendship, leaving me impotent to offer any assistance at all.now my dear friend, with her infant daughter, has a full time job of aquiring pills everyday just so that she can feel normal.graduate school....a memory.car....sold.boyfriend...left.
i worry about her very, very much and pray for every day but until she is ready to face what she has to there is naught i can do.
what many people do not realize is that coming clean from narcotics is one the most incredibly hard things to do.it is a body addiction and if you try to stop cold turkey your body makes you pay..in spades.

i cannot relay just how personal this is to me.i have a young woman in my home right now who i am helping detox because the local drug rehabilitation center will not accept her(her fault)and she has no money, lost her kids, her business and ..well..everything.my success with her is not written in stone, but i have had success in these cases.

on a side note.
i give you incredible credit reverendted.the fact the you are aware of the dangers and hence your responsibility speaks volumes to your character.the only consolation i can offer concerning those that abuse the system due to their addiction is that you have no control over that.your patients are lucky to have such a doctor as you.
i salute you my friend.

Smokers: Will the E-Cigarette Work For You?

blankfist says...

Stop using these damn things as crutches. Just quit. If you try, you can quit.

I smoked from the age of 14 until my thirties, and I was able to quit without any aids (snicker, I said AIDS).

The problem here is the nicotine. It's not all the "other additives" as this knucklehead suggests. Nicotine is the addictive poison. Your body needs to detox from that drug. Just quit. all the other additives are what make smoking fucking rad.

i completely agree. toxin cleansing is not always a good idea. they sell detox suppliments at health food stores. this is why i mentioned the contraindications part in the first comment. these are 1) over priced and can either be dangerous, or completely ineffective and crap.

i would love to see some studies about message therapy. its probaby difficult because the vast majority of massage therapists are independent and self employed, the vast majority are undereducated, and medical science has been resistant to embrace it as something that can legitmately improve your wellbeing, i suspect because it is not profitable to them, because therapists are independent and self employed.

i do not think enough education is required to become a massage therapist, as for myself, i already had a degree in radiological technology before i went to massage school and had spent 7 years studying the body from a medical/ scientific perspective. i think higher standards of training would improve the legitimacy of the field and the quality of care. but, i stand by my assertion that massage is rooted in phsyiology and when properly applied can greatly improve well being and prevent a plethora of illnesses. i will defend it to the death!

anyhow, its always good to flush your body of toxins

I upvoted your commented. But I don't agree that it's necessarily good to have a medical intervention to "flush your body of toxins" rather than letting the natural processes play out. I'm not about to go on dialysis to help flush out my toxins when I'm perfectly healthy. I realize that's an exaggerated parallel and that this massage is probably harmless, but I'd like to see some peer-reviewed studies on the matter. You've made an appeal that massage therapy is not junk science, and controlled, randomized, double blind, peer-reviewed trials are the way to prove that.

I realize that the "blind" part of such trials would be difficult in this case, but you can still have it single blind with a proxy intervention that is known to be worthless. Say you're treating them with magnets but actually do nothing.
