Jose Guerena SWAT Raid Video From Helmet Cam

Lawdeedaw says...

>> ^residue:

Police allege that the former Marine was involved in drug smuggling, robbery and human smuggling.
But a search of the home found nothing illegal. Officers found a handgun and body armour in the house.
The five SWAT team members remain on active duty. No criminal charges have been filed and no disciplinary action taken.
Mr Guerena's wife, Vanessa, said she heard her husband moaning as he lay dying, his body struck by 22 of the bullets.
Ms Guerena told ABC News: 'I saw his stomach, all the blood on the floor'.
She said her goal now is to 'clear his good name'. Ms Guerena said their son Joel keeps asking about his deceased father, 'Is he a bad guy?'

Can we stop noting the number of rounds used? One 15 round clip can be unloaded in about 5 seconds, so with two or three shooters, that's not much. Besides, the point of firing one round is to kill, the others are to confirm.

I am not even going to watch this video. I have had enough death videos for the day. (I just read the comments.)

Time Magazine: Heavy Drinkers Outlive Nondrinkers! (Fear Talk Post)

blankfist says...

@rebuilder. No. I am pointing out how individual people don't easily fit into this 'doing x is bad for you' paradigm, and rather how collectivizing people into large faceless groups makes it easy to create blanket statements that 'doing x is bad for you therefore it's our concern'. We're all individuals and we all do things differently. Sometimes those things are harmful, and quite frankly it's none of my business nor yours.

If you're prone to tax things that are harmful, then would you put a tax on suicide (taxing the deceased family from the recently deceased's assets)? Or attempted suicide? Would you put a tax on abortion (after all it's the most harmful because it snuffs out a potential human life)?

Making fun of the recently violently deceased.... stay classy videosift

And what makes you think he doesn't completely warrant it?

He was clearly taking his life into his own hands when he was hanging out on a very narrow bridge which still had trains running on it. You say "too soon," I say "good riddance." I have no sympathy for this kind of idiocy.

Religion - From my point of view. (Religion Talk Post)

Sagemind says...

I went to a funeral for a 16 yr. old friend who was murdered a few days ago.
700 attended, The church was so full, the event was simulcast in another room within the church. They had live music, On screen video, PowerPoint presentations and so on. Something else they did that was cool was they displayed a phone number on the screen so all the youth could TEXT in their condolences and then the Text messages were streamed along the bottom of the projection screen LIVE as they came in. Great use of technology. An amazing address from the lead youth pastor and words from many of the youth & friends of the deceased.

So, it doesn't have to be boring...
You want boring, yes, go to a Catholic church - you want non-boring go to a Pentecostal church

>> ^Deano:

I think going to church should be more exciting. I attended a memorial mass yesterday for a friend who died last year. I may be an atheist but they really have to jazz things up.

World condemns Gaza flotilla raid - Russia Today

radx says...

Like I mentioned earlier, they could have requested the UNIFIL task force to intercept the flotilla if they had any reasonable suspicion of weapons aboard.

Then again, Turkish officials say each and every person aboard was checked before they set sail, just like the vessels themselves. And now even the UN security council legitimized the convoy in their presidential statement:

The council urges Israel to permit full consular access, to allow the countries concerned to retrieve their deceased and wounded immediately, and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance from the convoy to its destination.

Statements made by members of German parliament who were aboard and returned home this morning also contradict a lot of statements by Israeli officials over the last 24h.

Anti-gay, Anti-black Hate Leader Killed by black teen

If the defendent's story is true, then the deceased is in the same category of hypocrites as Larry Craig and Ted Haggard. It wouldn't surprise me.

Atheist Nations Are More Peaceful

Lodurr says...

But would an ancestor-worshipping Vietnamese person identify themselves an atheist? Or a Swede that goes to the Lutheran Church of Sweden, which 72.9% of the country considers themselves a part of (despite only 23% belief in god)? The options in the Eurobarometer poll were:

-You believe there is a God.
-You believe there is some sort of spirit or life force.
-You do not believe there is any sort of spirit, God, or life force.

The third option seems to be the atheist one. The second option could technically be atheist, but not in a religious sense. Richard Dawkins and a family that leaves oranges on a plate in front of a picture of deceased relatives as an offering to their spirits can't be part of the same religious classification. When you look at atheism as a type of religion, which this video does, it has a stricter meaning than just "nonbelief in any deity," it means "nonbelief in any deity and nonparticipation in other religious classifications."

This is in the video's intro: "Utilizing the results generated from each of the ten most Islamic, Christian and Atheist nations I have compared them directly as to express the clear correlation between religion and conflict." Yet the majority atheist countries he goes on to list are in fact majority religious (except Czech Republic).

Dang. I was already formulating a reasoned response to the snuff charge (which did run through my mind when I first saw the video), with comments about the deceased's intent, the meaningfulness and social import of the event, but then I realized it was just choggie.

IF YOU USE CONDOMS YOU WILL NOT BE RAPTURED

bananafone says...

"Onan married his brother's widow and, from what the story says, was supposed to consummate their marriage and give the poor woman some sons to carry on the family name and to take care of her in her old age. It's a messed up scenario, but the vague statement that he "spilled his seed upon the ground" and that god struck him dead for it... could just as easily be about not consummating a marriage, or about disobeying god in regards to his husbandly duties. "

Yes and no. It was tradition in biblical jewish communities to marry the wife of your deceased brother. You had to. Also, any children she would have by the living brother would be considered to be the dead brother's children. Onan didn't want to give his brother children.
The story is often interpreted as the punishment for being selfish.

The Lost Pyramids Of Caral

schmawy says...

Yeah, I agree with the overly-dramatic sentiments, particularly in the end with the "human sacrifice" bit. I'm willing to bet that didn't even cross the archeologist's minds. I can tell you for a fact that the basements of New England are full of buried babies. It must be a human impulse to not place a defenseless baby, even a deceased one, outdoors but instead to intern it in a protected location, in your home.

Great find, Fisky.
