Jon Stewart Picks Apart Palin & GOP Incoherent Speeches

Appears to be dead, but here's a crappy-but-functional (small subscreen) alternative:

--EDIT--
Sorry, I had an old window up and the replaced embed is probably better than link above (although it is very slow to load for me in Thailand). I'll leave the other one in my comment above as an additional backup if anyone else has problems.

Point a videocam at its own monitor. Voila: mind pizza

We used to do something similar with a crappy video camera and CRT TV about 20 years ago. It would create all sorts of crazy fractal type images. The sharpness wasn't there, but it looked much more natural than this.

Final Fantasy XV trailer

Another ff I want to play, but you know, its kind of the first time the graphics are a "been there, done that". FF13 really raised the bar in doing excellent quality cinematic in real time, and square has gotten real good at making their worlds look good on low end hardware (ff10 pulls off a lot of tricks to make distant scenery look complex). If there was anything that stood out in this it was the trees actually looked kinda crappy.

The sad part is it will be a decade before we see this on the master PC with HBAO+.

Beware Disturbing ATM cash machine scam.

newtboy says...

Not at all new, but still happening, and still crappy.
I guess one should grab the card reader and see if it will pull off before using an ATM now...but be ready for a fight with the criminal that put it there. :-(

Blues Festival? If this was blues then I'm Mother Theresa. This was cacophonic to my ears and sounded like a crappy version of Michael Lee Firkins.

I can see why some people might like this, but to me there was nothing good about it.

Epic Rap Battles: Oprah vs. Ellen

Lawdeedaw says...

First epic rap that failed to break 10 votes I think...and I can see why. This one honestly pissed me off. What, did they think because it had lesbian jokes that makes it funny? Yeah, tang lickers are funny...not... Anyways, bad taste in my mouth. Reminds me of a crappy sequel.

Ferguson Police Acted as Revenue Agents, Fining Everything

newtboy says...

That's crappy, but still better than over $300 for going 7 mph over the limit on a quite rural highway (299 in N Cal), the last speeding ticket I got (and the only one in over 5 years). I also have no one to blame but myself, though. It's not like I didn't know the law, or understand there are consequences. I was just surprised how much those consequences cost these days.
That said, they have not gone up in price even the same amount (%) my water bills have, or gas, or insurance, etc. in the same time period, so I can't call it gouging or outrageous...at least not more outrageous than the rest of inflation.
It's confusing when laws that have either been ignored or barely enforced in the past are suddenly being enforced more harshly, but those laws are on the books for a reason, they should not have been ignored in the first place (or should have been removed if that was acceptable). These laws (traffic laws) are designed to make driving safer and traffic flow better. They are more important today than ever, with our ever more crowded, ever more in need of repair roads, to make an unsafe practice (driving) much safer for us all, and to help make outrageous traffic flow better.

I've received more parking tickets in the last year than my entire life. And a single PARKING ticket is as much as 2 and a half parking tickets were when I last received one. Jesus. 50+ dollars per ticket and I have had around 10 of them. Honestly, I don't know if I can really blame anyone other than me for not adapting to this shit, but I haven't changed my parking or driving habits... I drive and park the same as when I rarely received a ticket.

Anyhow, I'm adapting now -- but it's like driving into a storm.

Three Hours Of Walking In NYC As A Homosexual Man

newtboy says...

I pretty much expect to hear that this was a hoax. If not, that's crappy, but not the worst by far. My bro got a baseball bat to the head for being male in a 'gay area' in Houston, and he's not gay.
I'll reserve my vote for a few days to see if this is all fake.

Colbert interviews Anita Sarkeesian

Asmo says...

Yes, she's great at pointing that out.

What's the solution?

Quota's of protagonists sex? Replacing "damsel" with "prince" in distress? Getting rid of chainmail bikinis?

Oh, and how do we propagate that to the entire entertainment industry?

There is nothing wrong with playing a prince and rescuing a princess. There is nothing wrong with the princess being helpless. There is nothing wrong with Femmeshep kicking the shit out of the reapers and saving every being in the known universe, one of the most badass female protagonists around. More female protagonists = great, bring it on, but that's no reason to throw out a trope as old as time (incidentally, a trope enjoyed by a great many women who like to watch sappy romances where the charming fellow rescues the woman from her crappy life...).

Her series predicates on the concept that players are too fucking dumb to understand the difference between real life and the game. That if you play Duke Nukem, you'll walk around slapping girls tits and saying the most inappropriate things you can think of.

It's exactly the same tripe that Jack Thompson was peddling back in the day, games change how you think. And, for most people (ie. the mentally stable...), it was wrong then and it's wrong now. Your upbringing and parental guidance, and the relationship your male role models have with women, are far more likely to determine whether or not a man is likely to be sexist/misogynist than a few games with scantily clad girls needing a big strong man to save them... Society has changed to become more accepting of race, creed, sexual orientation and, of course, women, and it will continue to become so even if the old trope of the princess is in another castle hangs around. It may take generations before inequality dies out, if it ever does. It's not something you can fix by complaining about games.

SDGundamX said:

Her videos don't make the argument that games cause violence against women or anyone else. She analyzed the roles of women in games and found trends in how they were portrayed. These were not flattering portrayals (for example the "Damsel in Distress" portrayal) and male characters were not often treated in the same way in games. She's pointing out how off-putting that can be to potential and actual female gamers and recommending women be portrayed in a more realistic manner. She's also pointing out how games are reinforcing the sexist and misogynistic messages that already exist in society. I don't think she is claiming media is the root cause of either sexism or misogyny.

Mock the Week - What The Queen Didn't Say

dannym3141 says...

I'll preface this by saying that on average i like Frankie. I think he says some stupid stuff, but he may have his own reasons for doing that because he certainly isn't stupid... anyway:

What a crappy joke to lose your job over. He's a lot funnier than that, and i think he's said far worse things both in general and about the queen. I don't personally know Dara or anyone, but part of me thinks that they would have lent their artistic support to him had it been solely about that joke. Many of them are still doing it now and they seem like a tight knit bunch, and they all loved Frankie and he kept their popularity up.

I wonder if a part of him wanted to go for some reason - perhaps he felt his better material (less PG) stuff wasn't getting aired and should be.
