Deer jumps into a boat

SWBStX says...

Either this deer is a pet and the owner put a hunter vest on it in the hopes that hunters wouldn't shoot it. Or... it just killed a hunter and is playing coy before it devours these poor fisherman.

Long Stabby Thing

entr0py says...

Ah, come on man, they're just being coy. We've got to give women more credit for their ability to tell dirty jokes with a straight face, especially Australians. If you check out their banter starting at 1:05 again, the women definitely get their own jokes about long stabby things. Though whacking them off from a distance is good too.

The Market for Liberty

NetRunner says...

From 1:55 to 3:30 he lays out a pretty good argument for never listening to anti-government revolutionaries. It's the only really persuasive argument he gives.

From the start to the 1:55 mark, he demonstrates why I often tune out libertarian writings/videos, since they seem to be unable to get to the point without making a litany of false assertions about the nature of the world they're in, and then building on those false assertions by declaring them obvious fact and that "everyone" already agrees with their point of view, they just don't know it yet.

He kicks off the remaining 4 and a half minutes by declaring that he's not about to describe a utopia. He then proceeds to say all the things utopians of all stripes say. Things like "only we understand human nature", "only we understand how to create a society that's moral", "only we know how to enforce the One True Moral Code without corruption", and the eternal utopian promise of happiness, freedom, piety, and plenty.

It's a pretty basic paradox libertarians need to deal with. To enforce your moral code you need a state, or a state-like actor (e.g. a private jurisprudence provider). All states (and state-like actors) are susceptible to corruption from within and without, especially if you define "corruption" as including giving in to popular demands for tax-funded welfare programs. Without any state, someone will eventually create one, or an existing neighbor state will assume control of the region to "help out".

If there's a solution to that dynamic, libertarians shouldn't play coy "buy my book" games with it, they should be shouting it from the rooftops.

RNC Documents Reveal Republican Party's 2010 Strategy: Fear

I would welcome any Ron Paul Republican over an Obama Democrat any day. And, I don't thinking anyone is immune to indoctrination, but I wasn't speaking about partisan indoctrination. I was speaking of statist and social indoctrination. Status quo. What they refuse to teach you in civics class. Hell, not once do I think I ever had a real civics class. Praise allah there's a such thing as being an autodidact.

And, yes, nationalized healthcare is compulsory. Thanks for admitting that. So, how is it using "fear" to coerce people if I'm calling a spade a spade? Conversely, I think it's dubious to dodge that it's compulsory. Regardless, the intention of the *fear channel was to go against our innate fear of each other, of trusting each other, and of allowing each of us to make decisions for ourselves... and that extends to nationalized healthcare.

I know you and NetRunner don't see it, but you're wrong to tell me what I need to do to take care of myself. It demonstrates arrogance to think you know best for those of us too stupid to make our own decisions. I don't believe in fear (passion) to persuade. I believe in reason. And I believe in being persuasive with words to convince people, not by using force and violence. But, you and NR are too indoctrinated with your cognitive dissonance to make any real change with the two of you.

Don't play coy with me, snuggle nuts, national healthcare is compulsory by definition. When you bust out the scary rhetorical words, you are employing the very *fear tactics that you created a channel to combat, ya?

I hope that you don't believe libertarians are immune to indoctrination. I mean, believing that you are the author of liberty is the first sign of your political delusion. srsly. Ron Paul, like it or not, is a member of the cult of personality every bit as much as Obama, if not morso because he's had no national forum with which to prove himself.... beyond a lot of fanciful talk. He's still a Republican for chrissakes!!!! Where's the integrity in that?

You don't think the title was apt? Oh well. Your indoctrination runs too deep to make any substantial change anyhow, so I guess you would be the wrong audience for this. And, you're right, I didn't make an argument. I just copied a portion of the article and then linked to it. I guess that's enough to tick off my statist friends.

In reply to this comment by dystopianfuturetoday:
Love the propagandistic title. You might as well write, 'I have no argument' when you put something that silly in your title. I'll be happy so long as I don't have to suffer blankfistian-style compulsory, authoritarian libertarianism.

Animaniacs Sneak One By The Censors

LordOderus says...

I think the coy smile on Prince's face says it all. I'm sure cartoonists try to sneak in little jokes like that all the time. Just look back at all the controversy that popped up over the years with Disney. The penis building in The Little mermaid, the word SEX in the dust in The Lion King. Aladdin supposedly saying "Take off your clothes" to the tiger in... well...Aladdin. I don't really think it's too crazy to assume the same sort of thing goes on with all cartoonists. Heck look at the new spider man cartoon. During a fight with Black cat she says "You better not get your goop in my hair." Now sure, that has a totally innocent meaning in the cartoon, but the choice of words makes me think it was designed to get a laugh out of an older crowd. I dunno, maybe we're all just perverts.

Nope. He was making fun of volumptuous' weight. For the record, volumptuous was a great guy, and I cannot abide this sort of back-peddling.
