The Monty Hall Problem
Here is my favorite alternative version of the Monty Hall problem.
You have an friend with two children, and you remember that one of them is a boy, but you can't remember if the other is a boy or a girl. What is the probability that the other child is also a boy?
Even more counterintuitive than the Monty Hall problem when you discover that there is only a 1 in 3 chance that the other child is a boy.
The Monty Hall Problem
enfathom: Really, a quick search would have saved you the embarrassment... An interesting problem and yeah, quite counterintuitive.
Randomized Queue By Default (Sift Talk Post)
Thumbnails wouldn't work because of the technical reasons. First of all the APIs for thumbnail grabs is not consistent through all the video hosts. Google Video doesn't have small ones like Youtube, neither do I believe do some of the others.
That would mean a bespoke solution by VS, and with the amount of videos we see posted and the amount of removals by the video hosts this would be counterintuitive.
I do still think it would look amazing and cool, though realistically can't see how we can make it work properly without overcoming some technical hurdles.
Numb3rs - Probability for Beginners - Anyone explain this??
The thing that made this less counterintuitive for me:
When Monte opens one of the doors, he is not choosing at random: he never opens the door that has the prize behind it. That's what throws the (expected) probability off.
