I watched this when I was bored as fuck in Oaklahoma during the summer of 2002 at my ex's grandma's house. It's too hot to go outside, let's watch grandma's VHS collection. 12 volumes of Conway Twitty specials, Once Upon a Time in the West (Sergio Leone: Henry Fonda and Charles fucking Bronson motherfucker), Breaker Breaker starring Chuck Norris, 9 to 5 starring tig ol bitties, and Mississippi Burning with the Gene HACK-man.

Yep. I watched Mississippi Burning, Once Upon a Time in the West and Breaker Breaker over and over AND OVER all summer in the back woods of Oaklahoma. And played shit tons of magic the gathering (and sex). Even now, when I play magic, all I think of is the word Shitkicker, semi truck car chases, dreary harmonica drifting over a desert, and Dolly Parton's tits (and femdom bondage).

White American culture, huh? This clip is awesome.

From the above story "Born May 26, 1940, in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas, the son of cotton farmers, he learned to play guitar and drums as a child. By 17 he was appearing in honky tonks in and around nearby Helena and taking in performance by such southern legends as Conway Twitty, Elvis Presley, Bo Diddley, and Ronnie Hawkins.

He joined Hawkins’ rockabilly band The Hawks just before they moved to Canada in the late 1950s.

In the early 1960s, Helm and Hawkins recruited Canadians Robbie Robertson (guitar), Rick Danko (bass) and pianist Richard Manuel and organist Garth Hudson. They left Hawkins and toured as Levon and the Hawks before backing Bob Dylan in the mid-60s. I'd have to say it was my parents, who listened to Linda Rondstadt, the Eagles, and the Beatles. Except that they also listened to Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, and Conway Twitty, so maybe I'm just so awesome I figured out the whole rock and roll thing on my own. That and I have been in love with the idea of the musician alone on stage with his/her guitar. There's something really romantic in the image that I've always liked. A few of my family members play guitar and some of my favorite childhood memories are of them playing guitar while various others took turns singing.

After getting over my horrendous Debbie Gibson/Tiffany phase, I picked up Queen, Guns and Roses, REO Speedwagon, The Motels and Joe Cocker from an uncle who had them lying around. Talking Heads and then, later, 90s grunge was the first rock I got into that felt like it was not inherited from someone else, and now I'm inclined to pretty much give a listen to anything at least once, because who knows what might be out there...

Current favorites at the moment: Death Cab for Cutie, System of a Down, Yeah Yeah Yeahs (though most of the new CD is kind of a drag), Weezer, Silverchair, etc.

This scene was one of the 2 times I laughed during this entire episode. I think FG is finally loosing it's edge. Either that, or I'm sick of the same 'ol shtick. Having Lois rehash the bit where Peter falls down and says, "aaaaah, oooooh, aaaah" a million times was definitely unnecessary and quite annoying to me.


That was indeed one of the worst Family Guy episodes. That incident with Lois hurting herself did nothing for me. Family Guy has this idea that if you drag out a non-joke long enough it becomes a joke (see playing an entire Conway Twitty song)

The other plot line in this episode, Peter and Chris' cartoon, was completely unfunny. Again, they thought if they stuck with something silly for long enough it would become funny.

Family Guy still has some good jokes but they have been getting lazy by not animating a 2min + scene every episode (Talking about Meg in the kitchen, the tap recorder doing the Slater joke, Conway Twitty...)
