I Don't Wanna Sound Racist But... (PA McCain/Palin Rally)

13554 says...

For background of where my comment comes from understand I'm a Republican, a McCain supporter and disappointed the Condi Rice had no interest in running even after the draft Codi movement that rose up within my party at the start of the primaries.
The video shows us some racist individual morons with a couple choice quotes. Beyond that, I suggest you see past what the videographer and editor is feeding you.
1. There was a crowd of pissed McCain supporters. Why so angry? Maybe because they came to a McCain rally to be confronted by sign-carrying Obama supporters. How warmly would McCain chanting supporters be welcomed at an Obama rally?
2. Were the Obama supporters shouting anything rude and provocative? Obviously not. They were silently waving their signs in slow motion to hip, upbeat music as the video shows. Opposition that shows up at a prearranged political rally would never be rude. Right.

If you are so easily lead to judge a large group of people by a small number of individuals fed to you by the media (even small indy web media manipulators can use misleading techniques) then you may be past being able to think for yourself.

Me? I'll choose not to judge all Obama supporters by a few worst examples, who would say hateful things like, "A perfect opportunity to call in an air strike," and "...and 2 days after the election they will go back to eating potatochips and watching tv."(jsut one of several snarky, urban elitist jabs in the comments at perceived hillbillies between New York and L.A.) I'm afraid of the kind of easily manipulated people who are fed a piece of video propaganda and are ready to propose opposing "ignorance" of "30-40% of the population" by "getting rid of religion to start with, or forcing some mass mandatory re-education program..." I hope they are rare as I think.

Another Good Reason To Get Out To A Theater: "Juno" (Blog Entry by youdiejoe)

Thanks for posting this. Charms and I have seen it twice in the past week and plan to see it a third time in the coming days.

This is a truly phenomenal movie. Very smart, cute, sweet, and deep, swirling together adult reality and teenage naïveté with a cast of adorable characters that when the credits start rolling almost leave you wishing you could have seen more, although, it was all (esp. the final minutes) endlessly fulfilling.

This is definitely a must-see. Michael Cera is great as his usual nerdish, innocent self. Ellen Page could very likely end up a big deal in Hollywood as the years progress. More than a cute kid, she always exudes an aura of wit and intelligence, all the while pulling off a star caliber performance. (See also Hard Candy, which she really made fantastic.)

Also lots of credit to Diablo Cody of the famed Pussy Ranch blog (now moved onto myspace) who wrote Juno. Her fun use of language, colorful illustration of all the unusual things from our youth we sometimes forget about (e.g., a hamburger phone), and honest, textured interpersonal relationships really draw you in.

Five big stars from we Lucky Charms. Now go see it!

Cody spoke of his personal "respect" for First Nations peoples but you forget he actively killed them, he actively participated in the decimation of their principal food source, as an intentional act of genocide, and then when the FNs were nearly wiped out he paraded the few surviving men, women and children around the country as if they were freaks.

Jack Kerouac & Steve Allen: On the Road w/ Jazz Piano

HaricotVert says...

One of my favorite clips of Jack Kerouac. Interestingly, it is not actually On the Road that Kerouac is reading from, but his final version of it (and what Kerouac considered his masterpiece, thought not nearly as well received) entitled Visions of Cody.

Kerouac rarely appeared on television, and the few appearances he did make were typically brief. The deviation from the agreed-upon plan of reading from On the Road is often interpreted by counterculture literature enthusiasts as a sort of "f*** you" to the establishment by reading from the work Kerouac believed to be his best, rather than from the "inferior" On the Road that garnered far more mainstream popularity.

Riptide intro TV (84-86) Screaming Mimi

RIPTIDE
(1984-1986)

The RIPTIDE is a white boat with orange trim, formerly the "Mary Aberdeen." She was cursed; six people and one poodle died on her. Nick Ryder bought her from Tiny Tommy's in 1981. She is docked at Slip 7, Pier 56, in King Harbor, next to Mama Joe's tourist ship CONTESSA. (Mama Joe, played by Anne Francis, has an entirely female crew, all young, all in bikinis; the boys ogle them but Mama Joe does her best to keep the girls away from them.) Living on the RIPTIDE are three private investigators: Nick Ryder, Cody Allen, and Dr. Murray Bozinsky. For the traditional $200/day plus expenses, they will solve your case/protect you. They provide security for the pier in exchange for their docking there. They drive a red convertible with orange flames painted on sides, license plate IEAZ219, and the jimmy. The EBBTIDE is a small powerboat, owned by Cody.

Riptide (1984-86) - TV action series created by Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Lupo, this is about two Vietnam buddies who become private investigators. The show co-starred Joe Penny as Nick, the pilot of "Screaming Mimi," and old Sikorsky S-58T helicopter. Painted pink with a garish mouth on front, it was shabby, unreliable US Army surplus.
