In a Valley of Violence Official Trailer 1, Ethan Hawke

SDGundamX says...

Yet another trailer where I feel like I've already watched the whole movie. I wish I could say this looks good. I like Ethan Hawke--just rewatched "Training Day" a couple of weeks ago--but I also just watched "For a Few Dollars More" and this doesn't look like it holds a candle to the old spaghetti Westerns.

I think the last good Western made was Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven." The "3:10 to Yuma" remake had some good moments too.

Every Frame A Painting - Coen Brothers - Shot | Reverse Shot

ulysses1904 says...

Thanks for all of the replies. That makes sense, that it could be genuine if the "surprised" actor was the first to be filmed, while the offscreen actor throws in an ad-lib when saying his lines. Then the director likes the improvised line, adds it to the script, then films the 2nd actor later.

Sometimes the IMDB trivia section can be a graffiti wall of pretty stupid stuff, take this gem from "Dirty Harry" for example:

The sniper calls himself "Scorpio" which is the Zodiac sign for people born between October 24th and November 22nd. November 22nd 1963 is the date that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by a sniper in Dallas, Texas, a killing that the Clint Eastwood character in In the Line of Fire (1993) would be directly involved in.

I'm glad this thread had a Hollywood ending. ;-)

...In the Die Hard example, Rickman was obviously filmed first, and Bochner's ad-lib made a "happy mistake" they got on film.

If Bochner had been filmed first, you would never have seen Rickman's perfect reaction...

Real Time - New Rule – Learn How to Take a Joke

Babymech says...

Haha, yeah, I guess you're right. This is the first time anybody has made a mockery of transgendered identities, so they should just suck it up! Their number just happened to be up, in the Russian roulette that is comedy... It's not like there's a widespread history of that kind of jokes, or a history of discrimination, violence, and suicidal depression to go with it.

Again, I'm not advocating that the joke should be cut, because I don't know the context and I imagine whatever comedy comes out of Clint Eastwood will be asinine at best anyway. I do take issue with Maher's disingenuous pretense at not understanding what the offensive part of the joke was. He's literally saying "That joke was not an insult, it was not demeaning," when it obviously was. It played to the bigoted perception that transgendered women are men pretending to be women, which is both widely held and demeaning. He can defend it, but I don't see why he's pretending not to understand it.

Incorrect, he said we laugh because the jokes are a little bit true.

And if there are protected species, then there are no jokes left at the expense of other people, even self deprecating ones... That's the upside of equality, everyone get's grazed by jokes at some point in time. You can either choose to have the thinnest skin on the planet and a persecution complex the size of the Titanic or be a part of the human race and accept that at some point in time, there will be a joke where you or someone just like you is the butt...

A New Level Of Archery Skills

bareboards2 says...

@eric3579 I never had an issue with all the details of what he is doing -- couldn't care less about bow strength and armor. I was more curious if he is ACTUALLY DOING IT, or if this was some sort of CGI.

I did find this one article about him, posted Jan 2015, with these two quotes that spoke to my issues:

"This guy is the Clint Eastwood of archery," says Tim Wells, professional bow hunter and host of the TV show, Relentless Pursuit. "Or if I was talking to someone who had never shot a bow and arrow, I'd say he is the 'Bruce Lee playing ping pong of archery.' We have all played ping-pong and none of us can play with nun chucks — that's what this guy's skillset with a bow is comparable to. He's a badass."

Experts agree that the skills demonstrated in the video are unbelievable, but also completely real. "His skillset is tremendous," says Byron Ferguson, owner of the Bare Bow Archery School and star archer on the History Channel's show, Extreme Marksmen. "These shots are legitimate, despite some video editing. His speed is almost unbelievable."

I can't tell if they have met this guy or not, or if they, too, are just looking at the videos. That other "world record"? All I can find is more videos and nothing from Guinness or anyone else.

So at present, I am going to stay neutral as to whether this guy is for reals or not.

Hockey Fights now available pre-game! Full-teams included!

eric3579 says...

Come on *Canada get your shit together. Bunch of fuckin' savages

I am however interested in knowing what kicked off a pre game team wide brawl.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Key members of a Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (LNAH) franchise have been suspended until the end of the 2016-17 playoffs following a hot-tempered brawl during the pre-game warmup on Sunday.

The Laval Predators, who play in the infamously fight-happy LNAH, were involved in a melee before the puck drop on a game against the St-Georges Cool-FM.

Predators co-owner Eric Lajeunesse, CEO Lucien Paquette and assistant coach Dannick Lessard all received two-season bans on Tuesday.

The eight-team, Quebec-based LNAH, which is considered a "low-level professional league", is known for its outrageous behaviour, with footage of a bizarre on-ice scene going viral seemingly every other month.

Other supplemental discipline, announced on Wednesday, include:

LAVAL: Maxime Bouchard and Clint Butler (suspended for remainder of season/playoffs); Steven Oligny (7 games); Joe Rullier and Chris Cloutier (6 games); Philippe Pepin (5 games); Jonathan Oligny (4 games)

ST-GEORGES: Yannick Dallaire (3 games); Alexandre Gauthier and Jean-Michel Biron (2 games)

terminator genisys trailer

dannym3141 says...

Doesn't look like a reboot to me.

I like the look of it. I don't want to see arnie pretending it's the 90s, but he's still that hero dad-type character to me, he always will be. Clint Eastwood deserves a rest and without him we don't have a true aging hard-ass. We never used to watch arnie films in the past for the story alone, even if he did appear in some greats. So if he's playing a role that makes sense, some time travel to set up inappropriate levels of mayhem in the modern world is passable because that's all that Terminator 2 did.

I'm in for the ride, i'll watch it with hope.

Insurance scam doesn't go as planned

lucky760 says...

As Clint Eastwood said as William Munny:

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

I feel like I've tried to make this rather fine point a lot over the years on the Sift: I'm not saying he *should* or *deserves to* be run over by a car for trying to pull a con.

What I'm saying is he put himself into a situation where he could get run over by a car and did so of his own volition with blatant malicious intent. The fact that his pretending to get run over by a car actually resulted in him getting run over by a car yields zero sympathy with me.

Plus, I'm not sure what country you're in or if you're automotively insured, but if you are at fault of hitting someone with your car, you'll be screwed with insurance and paying a significantly higher rater for several years to come. It's not like a bank where your money is insured by the federal government and a robbery of the vault wouldn't affect you; the victim of an insurance scam is directly, immediately, and significantly fucked.

(Someone used my name when they were apparently at fault in an accident before I'd ever gotten my first insurance policy, and when I did first try to get insured, my premium was something like triple what it would've cost me otherwise.)

Again, not saying that ^that means he deserves to be crushed by a car, but he did it to himself. (Likewise, if he was playing Russian roulette and shot himself in the head, I wouldn't feel bad for him.)

You reap what you sow.

ChaosEngine said:

Well, I do.

Yes, he's a con artist and a fucking idiot, but let's get some perspective here. He tried to scam an insurance company, he didn't assault or rape someone. He deserves jail time, not to be run over.

He's still a human being and he's still going to be incredibly seriously injured.
