The 49 Films That Will Define 2010 (Cinema Talk Post)

Predators... Seriously? Didn't we run this far enough into the ground 19 years ago with Predator 2, nevermind the AvP disasters?

I'd agree, except Predators is directed by Nimrod Antal, who did the surprisingly effective thriller Vacancy from a couple of years ago. Between that and his equally good debut feature, Kontroll, he's definitely on my radar in a big way (his next film, Armored, opens this weekend. I have high hopes, despite how long it's been sitting on the shelf).

Inception... need more info.

It's Christopher Nolan. That's all the info you need. Seriously, look at the man's filmography -- he can do no wrong. Just based on Nolan's involvement and that short teaser from a few months back, that's probably my most anticipated movie of next year.

New Escape From City 17 Trailer

krelokk says...

This thing was made by two people with a budget of $500. In light of all the awesome things in it, anyone that complains about the acting overwhelming all of its achievements is a poser. And it certainly didn't stop Hollywood from kicking down their doors. There is shit acting in movies all the time. Half of it was the poor audio dubbing. I read an article about these guys getting repped at C.A.A. (biggest agency in the world) by the same guy that reps Christopher Nolan. They also got repped by Anonymous Content one of the most respected commercial production companies in the world. David Fincher, Ang Lee, Joseph Kosinski, Alfonso Cuarón, all make commercials there.

Not to be contrary, but I'll watch a movie because DiCaprio is in it. I wonder if he's hated because of Titanic? Yea, I could give two shits about that movie. But The Departed? Man that was great. Anyway, love the music playing in the background of this trailer.

Couldn't* give two shits

Dark Knight: Load of Tripe (Cinema Talk Post)

I'm not a big superhero fan either, but I dug it. I love art movies as much as next urban sophisticate, but sometimes you need some testostone-laden death and explosions. I'd definitely plop down 20 bucks to see a Batman helmed by Lars Von Trier, but in the mean time, Christopher Nolan is doing a bang up job.

I'd say this series is much better than the Raimi Spiderman flicks, but not as good as V for Vendetta or the first two Supermans.

The Prestige (trailer)

pyrex says...

The Prestige is an Academy Award-nominated 2006 period film directed by Christopher Nolan, adapted from Christopher Priest's award-winning 1995 novel of the same name. This steampunk film depicts the rivalry of Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, two Victorian era stage magicians in late 19th- and early 20th-century London. Angier blames Borden for a tragic accident, and a competitive one-upmanship ensues, in which both magicians, obsessed with creating the best stage illusion, stop at nothing to uncover the secret of each other's acts, with deadly results.

Memento -Trailer

Farhad2000 says...

Memento is a neo-noir–psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan (who went on to direct Insomnia and Batman Begins), based on his brother Jonathan's short story "Memento Mori."

The film stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby, a former insurance fraud investigator hunting for his wife's murderer. During the attack on his wife, Leonard suffered severe head trauma and lost the ability to make new memories. To cope with his condition, he keeps a collection of notes, photographs, and tattoos to remind himself of people, places, and events he cannot remember.

He is aided in his investigation by "Teddy" (Joe Pantoliano) and Natalie (Carrie-Anne Moss), neither of whom Leonard is sure he can trust.

Good pick Michie.
