OMG THE HADRON COLLIDER IS TURNED ON!!!

MarineGunrock says...

My inner very prominent geek feels the need to mention that the gravitational forces of black holes are omni-directional, unlike this video where apparently CERN makes a new kind of black hole in which gravity is only present on one side.

Rapping about the Large Hadron Collider.

Please disregard my flawed neutron star conjecture above.

The neutron star and cosmic ray safety arguments in the 2008 LHC Safety Report were deemed "unverified" by CERN's Scientific Policy Committee, but not for the reasons above.

Credible arguments that neutron stars do not prove safety may be found in points 5, 6 and 7 of www.wissensnavigator.com/documents/spiritualottoeroessler.pdf

What if Jesus came back like that...
A planck sized dot of inifinite mass!

What if Jesus came back like that...
Decayed right away.. and gone like that!

What if Jesus came back like that...
But years too early.. from the proton smacks!

What if Jesus came back like that...
Light speed, burned.. and pissed at Cern!

Scientists Attempt to Recreate The Big Bang

bcglorf says...

Upvote for CERN and the fundamental research it will provide. The next big breakthrough in physics is going to come from this kind of research and the more the public is informed the better. That said, boo on the reporter for saying
"While it's considered unlikely that a catastrophic explosion could result..."
and right after it was explained to him that these reactions already happen in nature all the time. The only trick is that they are so small we need a device like this to make them happen in a very precise location we can build detectors around to observe the results. The reaction isn't novel, the ability to observe it with the required precision to learn anything is.

Mind-blowing scale of ATLAS detector (Large Hadron Collider)

ATLAS construction animation (AWESOME LHC goodness)
