What The Media Isn't Telling You About The Drug War

Auger8 says...

If only that were true. I could forgive them for ignorance however it's not. The media at least the ones with half a brain cell and an once of perception all know what's going on. Like this guy he gained his knowledge by being one of them till he finally got so sick of the corruption, hypocrisy, and propaganda he had to speak up. I used to work for a newspaper so I understand where he is coming from. Media and News are a business they aren't acting to inform the public of critical information. That's how they present themselves that's what they want you to believe but that's the furthest thing from the truth. When I worked as an editor I began to see what it was about, they care only about money stories are arranged in a way to draw attention to the advertising space on each page. Advertising ALWAYS gets priority on the page. My job was to read a story and figure out what I could cut out of each story to make it fit in the spaces left after the ads were put in. If I had to cut out important info that was fine as long as it fit. Money is the media's only purpose. They could honestly care less about bringing real news to the people they really just want to grab your attention long enough for you see a commercial or glance at an Ad. The real news is out there but you have to look for it yourself don't depend on the Media to tell you what's going on in the world because all they really care about is money and power.

The Koch Brothers venture into the movie business. (Cinema Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Don't buy into the propaganda, Choggie, the Koch's could care less about education, they just want to make a buck.

The charter school thing has been tried and they perform worse than regular public schools. The reason that many private schools do better than public schools is that they are highly funded and can blacklist students that don't do well in school, students that have mental or physical disabilities, students that have discipline problems and students that don't speak English. Public schools are inclusive by definition. If education were privatized, the exclusivity that makes private schools succeed would be lost.

Turning education over to corporations would mean subsidized high level education for rich people, and McSchools for everyone else.

Every 3D Movie is the Same

jmd says...

truer words were never spoken. I just got the evo 3d and really dig the 3d thing, but you know what? I could care less for hollywood 3d movies, the majority of them were made 3d in post production. Instead I like either producing my own or watching other users content on youtube. 3d video becomes more realistic when the content is realistic. You can make ironman as 3d as you want, I still know he is all cgi fakeness.

Heritage Foundation response to "Obamacare" nightmare

KnivesOut says...

November is coming... so hilarious.

Will you promise to leave the country when Obama is re-elected?

Also, your boy Rmoney built a a healthcare plan very similar to the one you're so enraged about. Wow, that must sting.>> ^quantumushroom:

Didja read my post before commenting, because health care is not really the issue here, serfdom is.
We have had a very similar scheme in australia for DECADES. If you dont get private health cover, the govt will tax you to a rate where you would otherwise be paying for it anyway, in order to provide public care to those too poor to even pay taxes to begin with.
So why does anyone there bother to buy private health insurance? Isn't socialied medicine just as good or better than for-profit health care?
This ensures EVERYONE IS COVERED EVERYWHERE, no matter the circumstances.
If you have ZERO insurance and you have to amputate a leg, or get coronary bipass surgery....ITS FREE!

We have that here too. Ever hear of Medicaid? What about the "free" care for the 12 million illegals here (more than HALF of Australia's ENTIRE population)
Our standard of care is FAR above yours, WE SPEND LESS GDP PER CAPITA than you for it too!
You're really going to compare an island of 22 million to the USA? You are FAR from utopia.

Access to (Australian) health services is becoming less equitable. Patients’ out-of-pocket costs have grown 50% in the past decade and now, for some, present a sizeable barrier to needed care.
You don't get it because you're not an American. As an honorary member of the Euro system, you will always see government as the solution to everything, and that's fine for you, but that shit doesn't fly here. The settlers didn't flee England in search of a new world in order to have a gigantic leviathan government coddle us. Fucking Obama and King George III of England look a lot alike these days, maybe it's the crown.
Your assumptions are many and flawed. You assume taxocrats (the American left) want to "save" money. They couldn't care less, we've spent 9 trillion on a failed war on poverty. Liberals measure success by the weight of their good intentions, not results.
In other words, insanity.
If this was really about the 30 million uninsured, there's more than enough revenue just to cover them. But Nooooooo, EVERYONE is now a subject of the King, because this corrupt legal decision isn't about health insurance, it's about control. Tyranny. The end of freedom.
Fuck 'em. November is coming.

Zero Punctuation: Diablo 3

Auger8 says...

I just think it would have been a better game if they had simply separated the single player from the multiplayer. That way you have a choice in the matter. Gamers like choices and hate it when you take those choices away. D3 isn't a MMO no matter how hard Blizzard tries to convince people it is. The only reason they made it into this forced co-op game is they were greedy and figured that was the only way they could stop piracy.
Problem is the people who were gonna pirate the game weren't ever planning on paying for it in the first place. So they weren't going to lose a dime to those people. Notch said something to that effect about Minecraft piracy I don't remember the exact quote but Notch could care less if you pirate Minecraft, hell he gives away the beta snapshot versions for free.
And if they hadn't forced multiplayer to be always on all these hackers wouldn't be exploiting that very same system to steal items and gold from people so they can then sell them for cash in their idiotic real money auction house. Which will be a disaster if they ever open it because the hackers will flood the market.
And then even though people paid $60 bucks for the game they expect you to shell out another $10 for a physical authenticator in order to hopefully keep your account secure. Even though they don't allow strong passwords on Battle.net.
Which is a moot point because these hackers aren't even hacking passwords in the first place there stealing session id's or forcing themselves onto buddy lists somehow that's why people can still log into their accounts after they have been jacked for everything their worth. But Blizzard is suspiciously in denial when someone brings that up.

All in all their choice to force online access to play their game has resulted in one of the most embarrassing disasters in the history of gaming. Which is sad because it really is a good game. It's just run by greedy idiots.

>> ^lampishthing:

I think Thumper was saying that Diablo 3 is clearly a multiplayer focused game and that Mr. Yathzee Esq. should not expect it to be excellent in single player. Being a games reviewer surely he should have given more attention to the multiplayer as this was the intent of the game etc. I really don't think that Diablo 3 can be blamed for shoving stuff down your throat. That's more your desire to play Diablo 3 shoving it down your throat.>> ^Auger8:
Maybe because some people actually like single player games.
And maybe he's the guy who doesn't need 15 people to go "hey nice backswing on that axe you got there" 50 million times like some attention seeking whore.
Or there like me and don't want their entire party to sudden scream like banshees if I decide to get up and take a leak or grab a snack or simply decide I don't want to play through the entire campaign in a single night.
That's not to say I don't enjoy Multiplayer I simply enjoy not having it shoved down my throat like D3.
>> ^Thumper:
How in the hell can you play Diablo 3 without playing multiplayer. He's the person you never go see a movie with because they ruin it with their trite non-conformity misery. Oh wait that's how, if no one wants to play with you. What a fucking tool.

Woman Arrested for Taking 5 Year Old to Tanning Salon

Auger8 says...

Ya I knew you were going to get hung up on that part but I could honestly care less about what Cenk was saying in this(he's usually an idiot anyway). In fact watch it again and just mute it every time he opens his mouth.

It's what Ana says that's important here she states that the burns on the girl were so bad that even if they did occur outside it still qualifies as neglect on the mothers part and since it hasn't even been hot in New Jersey this time of year it's rather doubtful that burns of that degree occurred from the child being outside.

Like I said there is more to this story that meets the eye. I'm not basing any of my reasoning on how this lady looks it's how she acts and what she says that really disturbs me. And it should disturb you as well.

>> ^Stormsinger:

And Cenk says exactly what you've been implying, "Guilty. I mean look at her, she's a freak." Completely decided the case without a shred of evidence that there even -was- a crime. There was no discussion of whether or not a crime was committed, his judgement was based wholly on her looks.
I don't know how I can say it any clearer...her looks, no matter how awful, don't justify arresting her. And her looks are the only thing any article I've seen has talked about.
>> ^Auger8:
TYT says it better than I can maybe you'll listen to them as there is more to this story than meets the eye.
And btw in the U.S. a person is normally arrested and charged with a crime FIRST, then you are issued a trial to determine your supposed guilt or innocence this is normal not unusual and just because someone is arrested doesn't automatically mean they are guilty.

>> ^Stormsinger:
>> ^Auger8:
But let's say your right and she got sunburned while tanning with her Mother outside. Is it any better that she took a 5 yr old to tan outside than it is to tan a 5 yr old in a tanning bed?

Are you fucking serious? You don't see a problem with her being arrested for taking her daughter outside?
Get a grip man! You're descending into idiocy...stop the slide now, and start thinking about what you're saying. You're starting from the decision that she's in the wrong, and now you're flailing around to try and find what it was she did. Rationalizing a prejudgement is a common human behavior, but that doesn't make it a good thing.
I know she looks a mess, but that's hardly reason to presume she's guilty of a crime. And that's precisely what the vast majority of commenters (on other sites, not so much here) are doing. Here, most are just making nasty comments about her looks, and ignoring the fact that she's been arrested apparently without evidence.

60 Minutes -- Lehman Brothers Investigation

kceaton1 says...

This only serves to aggravate me. Another taxpayer panel in which we enjoy the benefit of plausible deniability (or whatever there greased 300,00$K lawyers claim works for the current system of worked in loopholes). More so, because I know not a single one of these sons of bitches will do time or ever care--really care. They should be in jail for life. They should be in a federal prison, full security, no white collar bullshit.

They should live on a meager sum the rest of the entirety of their days with all their buildings, lands, businesses, capital, funds, CDs, IRAs, everything except their social security and even that should be looked at (as they should be allowed a low middle income and that is IT); they can gain no earmarks, no passes from their buddies or gifts (although he can live with him as long as his money is not being paid out), they cannot benefit from a will or other form of transfer ship at an appointed time or setting, and then ANYTHING I haven't covered. No politics, no books, no television, no movies, you're in the "white collar" death knell that is their true jail cell. He CAN enlist in the army, they may have a modest job, but the dream of riches are OVER. They chose the ultimate path of pressure that can be exerted on a white collar criminal.

If only we thought that crime like that could be as dangerous as a murderer (and trust me--I'm sure many of you do know already--but, if you don't white collar crimes can end up killing thousands of people, but their hands are virtually clean). Perhaps it is part of the taboo we have with mental disease, we'd rather it remain in the back-room or rather in the back of your mouth. Strangely many of these white collar criminals most likely all suffer from having almost NO empathy for others; they literally could care less what it is like to be me or you. This is a mental issue, but we never talk of such things--it's rude! But, violence has its own mental disease "shards" as well that cause it to start either young or later in life...

But, we refuse to deal with the main topic, so how about punishment(s) atleast? White collar crime is seen as something you do at your beach house in Florida on the weekend. Your lawyer tells you about it on your flight into Boston on Monday, you have three death threats sent to your e-mail, you mildly humming, "Hip To Be Square", send them to your spam folder and block the senders after you send them a death threat/repossession letter back through a company proxy, which then you use another proxy to feed the final bytes through. Your lawyer tells you you'll have to show up to an injunction and say this exact prepared statement, which of course, nicely enough they allow you to read from when they take your testimony. This is our guy. Right now he's eating a stake with a glass of Chardonnay from Italy in the early 90's--meanwhile, "Easy Lover", is booming in the background while his mistress takes a swim in his Penthouse's swimming pool. He doesn't have to get up early, so it'll be a long night--after all nobody is coming for him.

Attack them hard and they might take notice.

What a new punishment that would be for white collar criminals--a death sentence, for them.

Just institute what I said above and it may change things. Attack the problem psychologically, as jail-time is either meaningless or to them it's "Club Fed". But, this of course requires good lawmakers, which requires competent voters, which requires a great education system...

No calls, no businesses, no helping: they are burnt.

Nokia Has a 41MP Camera/Phone - It Was Used To Make This Ad

Yeah I could really care less about what OS it has as long as it is fairly functional. Giving up "apps" to have this camera is something I think alot of people would do. Oh well...hopefully MS doesn't overlook this opprotunity and gets a Windows Phone version to the US asap.>> ^notarobot:

Nokia has produced a phone to be the envy of every Apple and Samsung product on the market. I know nothing of the "Symbian" OS vs. other popular mobile OSs, but it looks incredible. Too bad it will never set foot on NorthAm soil.

EvilDeathBee (Member Profile)

EvilDeathBee says...

Nope, I'm not buying that. It's simply a bastardisation for an already existing saying that has come into popular use (in just America it seems), such as "hold down the fort" rather than "hold the fort". You don't just liken it to another phrase that has an almost similar backwards meaning, when the circumstances are different. As far as I know "tell me about it" doesn't have a so-called 'correct' saying that existed before hand.

>> ^Kreegath:

"I could care less" is a correctly worded saying, though. Pointing to it as incorrect is not pedantic, it's misunderstanding how sayings work. "Could care less" means "couldn't care less", just like "tell me about it" means that you already know what's been said and DON'T need to be told about it. This particular idiom has been around atleast since the 40's, so it's no new phenomenon.
You could make similar complaints about phrases like "that's the shit", which means that the thing in question is amazing, but read literally it would appear to be likened to feces, which by most definitions is an unquestionably bad thing. It's understood, however, in the context of that saying. I'm sure you can come up with dozens of similar phrases that have a sarcastic tone, or are implicitly understood to have a meaning contrary to what they literally say.
