Disney buys Marvel for 4 Billion (Wtf Talk Post)

Sagemind says...

Wow, does that mean we can expect to see a whole new merchandise direction when we go to Disneyland?

They already control ABC Studios & ESPN,
Remember Disney also bought The Muppets, Club Penguin and Pixar.
They also have Power Rangers and Nightmare before Christmas.
Not to mention the theme park rights to both Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

That's just off the top of my head but I am sure there are more...

A bit more I just looked up:

Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan (Havana, Cuba)

Farhad2000 says...

I love this song and video, especially the footage from Havana. Enjoy!

The Buena Vista Social Club was the name of a members-only music club in Havana, Cuba that was at its height during the 1940s. In the late 1990s Wim Wenders made a movie upon the initiative of Ry Cooder called Buena Vista Social Club about some of the musicians who had performed there and their involvement in the production of an album released in 1997 also called Buena Vista Social Club. Both movie and album were highly successful, and started a craze for Cuban music in the United States and Europe. A number of subsequent albums featuring the same musicians have been released, with the title "Buena Vista Social Club" being used as something like a brand to link them.

MADRID -- Driving to become one of Spain's most powerful film/TV groups, DeAPlaneta has just moved up a couple of gears with higher-profile acquisitions and a raft of new productions.

The new aggression coincides with the appointment of the energetic Alvaro Zapata, former VP of Buena Vista Intl. in Spain, as DeAPlaneta executive prexy.

DeAPlaneta purchased a controlling stake in Spanish broadcaster Antena 3 in April 2003. The latest expansion confirms it as one of the fastest-growing film and TV companies in Europe.

As a producer of film (DeAPlaneta PC) and TV (TV moviemaker Prodigius Audiovisual), DeAPlaneta's key competitive advantages lie in its distribution reach and -- for Spain -- higher-end muscle.

Launched in 2000 by two big European publishers and long-term partners, Spain's Planeta Group and Italy's DeAgostini Group, DeAPlaneta initially grew cautiously, establishing a theatrical distribution op, (DeAPlaneta Distribucion), a video distrib arm (SAV) and a kids distribution and merchandising division (Planeta Junior).

So you are pointing everyone to some crappy "scary video" crap put out by a Barcelona wanna-be disney! Oooookah..

In case you are wondering, it is a Japanese film re-visioned by Wes Craven..

Still struggling for that vote.

A good Ruben Gonzalez story:

Gonzalez had thought he had retired in 1996, when US guitarist Ry Cooder asked him to join in the Buena Vista Social Club recordings. Despite suffering from arthritis and being too poor to own a piano at the time, he was said to be overjoyed, and every morning waited outside the studio before it opened. The pianist so impressed Cooder and co-producer Nick Gold that he was persuaded to record the solo album Introducing Ruben Gonzalez.
