Honestly.. the wide-spread perception of this video is an illustration of why it's impossible to reason with some people. Almost all people are seriously prone to attach non-existent narrative to completely neutral events when it suits their agenda.
Good thing you're here to show us the error of our ways. After all, our complete unfamiliarity with primate behavior is no excuse to believe what the title of the video, and the people in the video suggest. We should all take up a collection, and purchase a medal. Then melt down that metal and each of us should drop a single drip of molten gold into our pitiful eyesockets and hope that the gold reaches our brains and somehow fuses with our neurons and makes us as perceptive as you. The only other possibility is death, and that is much preferable to remaining as stupid as well all are.

No but I have a good guess at what pointing to an object and then pointing to your palm means.
The sign I'm actually most curious about is the meshed fingers. (He) does that a couple of times.

And to the idiots calling me Dr Doolittle. My whole point is that this is pretty obvious and I'm not claiming to be Dr Doolittle but someone who can observe an event and distinguish my own perception from the psychological priming (the description).

spoco2Ok, I think the problem here is that both parties are stating what they 'think' the chimp is saying in absolute terms.
'He's asking you to open the cage by turning the bolts'
'He's just asking you for the bits of mandarin'
In both cases it should be 'It looks like he might be trying to tell me.... X, Y or Z'
You don't know at all.
Also, with his finger in the palm gesture, that looks like a taught gesture so the trainer would probably have more idea of what the chimp is saying. (it does LOOK like he's just saying 'Look, that thing there, put it in my hand... I want it')
And yes, I can't tell male from female chimps, so me calling him a male is purely for convenience.
