6 Foot 7 Foot (Lil Wayne) Cover by Karmin

Sagemind says...

I don't know the background of the word (where it originated) - but in my world, or the way I've always heard it said was that "Jigga" was the extension of the work Jig -

The Jig (Irish: port) is a form of lively folk dance, as well as the accompanying dance tune, originating in England in the sixteenth century and today most associated with Irish dance music and Scottish country dance music.[1] Jigs were originally in 2/4 time, but have been adapted to a variety of time signatures, by which they are often classified into groups, including light jigs, slip jigs, single jigs, and treble jigs. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jig

I know some people are used to the derogative term:
Used as a disparaging term for a Black person. Frequently used in the southern portion of the United States. Human of African descent, having jig like qualities. - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jigga%20boo

But for me, it's a person who dances because I just don't have those racial words in my vocabulary. (I've actually never heard anyone in real life use this term as a racial word.)

Sidenote: when I was a kid I learned not to be afraid of the boogy-man by realizing he was just a man who danced (otherwise know and the dancing-man.)

P.S. how is saying Jigga any better than saying the N word?

Ron Paul: Obama Is Not a Socialist

TheFreak says...

I just don't understand the "Corporatist" label.

Corporations are organisms composed of individuals. Any action taken by a corporation, positive or negative, cannot be attributed to the "Corporation" but the individuals who are a part of that corporation. Once you decide to try to attribute any single action by a corporation to single individual within the corporation you find it's next to impossible. Decisions are not made unilaterally by individuals, each individual is complicit in the actions taken. Dig deeper and you'll find there are rarely any distinct individuals who actually hold the power to make decisions. Each individual is beholding to take the direction that's best for the corporation as a whole.

How many people in that audience work for a corporation? I'm betting nearly every single one of them. So when Ron Paul calls out 'Corporations' as the boogie-man he's actually implicating every single person in that audience for the decisions and actions they take every single day in the course of their work.

If you work for a Corporation and your Corporation is responsible for negative activity that hurst individuals, communities, the nation, the world...then you are guilty of contributing to those actions no matter what your roll in the Corporation. It may be reassuring to convince yourself that others within the corporation are responsible but then try to identify those individuals. The closer you inspect the actions of each individual the more you'll realize no one individual is responsible. We're all responsible.

Michael Moore on Afghanistan: Get Out and Apologize

bcglorf says...

Fuck Al Qaeda. It's obviously another boogie man.

No more Russian commies, so they invented another boogie man.

If you recognize Al-Qaeda as exagerated and over simplified short hand then step up and think for yourself already! Proving the neo-con monsters like Cheney are wrong doesn't prove that you are right, real world problems have more than 1 wrong answer. Prove your own argument, explain how much better things would be if America had simply left the extremists in Afghanistan and Pakistan alone.

Had we spent 10% of our military budget on seeding economic growth in Afghanistan, it would have given us 500% or more in positive returns.

You're probably right, assuming we sent that money back in time to when the Mujahideen (and Osama bin Ladin) still worked for us, and they'd just kicked the Russian occupiers out. We probably could've prevented Al Qaeda from coming into existence in the first place.

Fuck Al Qaeda. It's obviously another boogie man.

No more Russian commies, so they invented another boogie man.

What I said had nothing to do with Al Qaeda.

It had to do with a real way to solve a real problem.

Chorus x2

Ever flowing - never standing still
We roll with the punches, move in for the kill
The competition ends up six feet in the ground
With fists full of awesome we go round after round

United we stand never ever growing weary
We cannot fall cause gravity is just a theory
We reach higher than the giants in operations
Patience soon well be crip walking in stations

We're more agile than a president dodging a shoe
We need three continents for our massive crew
From Atlanta to Shanghai to the Icelandic nation
Throw your hands up for World Domination!

Chorus

Their goal isn't a Taliban-controlled world, but an Islamic theocratic-controlled one, and to further that goal they don't need an army or air force. All they needed were a few pilots and some box cutters to inch us closer to that "holy war."

The thing the Taliban wants most of all is for people to leave Afghanistan alone.

And "Al Qaeda" is really a little pipe-dream boogie man compliments of the CIA.

The middle east, probably more than anything, just wants a major reduction of western influence and interdiction in their countries.

Three countries needed 9/11 more than anything:

1) America, for a good reason to invade Iraq,
2) Saudi Arabia, for a good reason to get US troops off their soil, and
3) Israel, to provide a long-term buffer-zone of US troops and weaponry between them and Iran.

9/11 was an inside job, and the three countries above are the prime suspects.

I disagree. The bloc is and has been working pragmatically to promote Quebec's interests for quite some time, focusing instead on language and provincial rights. They are up front about their platform, and the question of seperation has been off the table for a long time now - it's simply not feasable politically for them. Like it or not, they are a legitimate party within our government and trying to sell them as some sort of evil boogie-man is going to do nothing positive for the situation on ANY side. This is already enough of a crisis without raising the spector of national unity again.

"How We Lost the War We Won" Embedded With The Taliban

rougy says...

>> ^qbert:
Oh yes, that's what the war in Afghanistan is about, killing brown people. Sure! I mean, the Taliban "aren't exactly feminists", as this exceptionally morally-discerning creature has noted, but it's not like they refused to turn OBL over for trial after he murdered 3000 innocent people from 80 different countries, its not like the Taliban crushed the minds and souls of hundreds of thousands of innocents under a steel fist of barbarism, and defecated, just for good measure, on the treasures of Bamyan. These Taliban, they are misunderstood, and just because they treat cattle better than women, and believe that democracy and tolerance are evil, this doesn't mean we can't negotiate.

The Taliban did offer to turn over OBL if the USA would only give them evidence of his involvement. They never did, and I doubt it exists. OBL was the boogy man for an inside job. 9/11 was an attack from within.

I'm also tired of people being called "terrorists" when all they're doing is fighting against the uninvited army occupying their nation.

We haven't achieved shit in Afghanistan, and we never will.

Because we will always use military methods to solve our perceived problems, and that is, in and of itself, the real problem.

MIT geek nearly shot by airport police for wearing 9V & LEDs (Geek Talk Post)

twiddles says...

You know hindsight is 20/20. Smart people make dumb choices all the time. She exercised poor judgment, but she is only 19 for crying out loud and not a native Bostonian. What would have happened if it was a 10 year old white boy instead? Are we that scared?

And it is not MIT's job to teach common sense. After you've determined she wasn't a threat, there was no bomb and she did not do anything intentionally, the reasonable thing to do would have been to release her and not hold her and charge her with crimes. Calling this a hoax device and describing it to the news media as a fake bomb makes it sound to me that the cops are scared shit less and want to get everybody else as frothy as they are. Makes it look like they are doing something about the boogie man.

9/11 Mysteries-Fine Art of Structural Demolitions

doppler says...

You conspiracy theorists make me sick. Why don't you stop living in your basement searching the internet for "proof" for your demented theories, just because you think that Bush and the boogie man are out to personally get you. None of your "points" matter because unless you are a subject expert your opinions mean nothing.

Come back when you've done a full structural simulation of the event using scientific models, have written a full 100 page report, or other wise put real effort into your sick theories.

Why Vote Republican?

joedirt says...

Lefties on Videosift seem to compose a majority.

That's not because their ideas and opinions are better, but because they were here first. Big quackin' deal.

As I have pointed out to 'Shroomy before. The community here is not fourteen year old boys, unlike 'Shroomys usual forums. Most people around here are very educated, even with advanced degrees, and very well spoken. So to all the wingnuts it appears that there are unfair liberal enclaves in the world, like "the media". Sadly, reality does have a liberal bias because smart people realize Iraq is a mess, there is no islamo-fascist boogie man worth throwing away your freedoms, rights, or Constitution.

The media has a corporate bias period. To that end the majority of Americans are liberals (see House makeup over last 40 years). Most Americans want good jobs, living wages, health care, consumer rights, ability to declare bankruptcy, fiscal responsibility in gov't, and not to see their sons and daughters die in senseless war to establish a new Iran in the name of oil pipelines.

Fact, this Administration has expanded gov't and the increased the debt more than anyone since FDR. Fact, this do-nothing Congress has rubber stamped Bush's insane policies and pissed all over the Constitution.

'Shroomy you hate facts. You have never once reponded to any facts presented to you on VS, and you never will listen to anything but 'facts' that support your ideas. Show me a fact you have posted on here. One link to NY Post article is hardly a start. Wow, so you are saying our soldiers with $20 million a day in Iraq are killing people?! Good job. What does winning in Iraq mean? It simply means that Iraq wasn't as BIG of a mistake as it is now. It still was a mistake.
