The genius of Steve Ballmer on the iphone

KnivesOut says...

They paid Anders Hejlsberg to run with C# and the whole CLR thing. From a coders stand-point, that's pretty awesome.

Also, they provide arguably the finest suite of developer tools on the market, if you're developing for Windows. Compare Visual Studio to XTools. It's like comparing a Mont Blanc pen to a sharpened stick.

Les Cowboys Fringants "Gars d'la compagnie"

(English translation follows)

http://lyrics.wikia.com/Les_Cowboys_Fringants:Le_Gars_De_La_Compagnie

=====

Since the turn of last century
Brave lads have been logging the forests of Quebec
Leaving in the fall, spending winter in the camps
Returning to their wives when the spring would come again
The Americans could smell a lot of cash
Came to make a buck at the town of Trois-Rivières
It'd mean jobs for us, the French-Canadians
Build your factories and we'll give you the whole forest

Year after year they cut down trees like men possessed
Asking too much more than the forest could provide
But it was no big deal
They had friends in government
So they headed further north
And kept up their clearcutting

The aboriginals, who were hunters, man and boy
Tried to have a say
But were told to take a hike
It's not from your kind that we're going to make our profits
For us, your caribou looks better minted on a coin

And the company man is laughing to himself
Who's the fool who said that money doesn't grow on trees?

Lately I've lost my Guinness urge and have been drinking sauvignon blanc

Oh, I never knew you were gay.

Now you've done it. You've maligned my sexuality. My official drink is now Yukon Jack. So non-homo, it hurts. From the Wikipedia article:

"honey based Canadian whiskey advertised as the "Black sheep of Canadian Liqueur". It is a 100 proof (in USA) or 80 (in Canada) proof drink, known for its "macho image" (see: [1]). Yukon Jack also makes Perma Frost schnapps. On the back of the bottle there is a quote, “Yukon Jack is a taste born of hoary nights, when lonely men struggled to keep their fires lit and cabins warm, boldly flavorful yet surprisingly smooth, there is no spirit like Yukon Jack.”

Two fire trucks collide in intersection (no sound, 00:12)

maximillian says...

From my understanding, firetrucks and ambulances do not have carte blanc to run red-lights. They can do so but should do it cautiously. The firetruck coming towards the screen should have slowed down at the intersection.

If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say it's an add-on piece that was animated to bridge together classic clips that were used to make the first Bugs Bunny & Roadrunner Movie. The animation definitely looks 70's, and you can hear Blanc's voice is a lot more mature for the characters.

Bugs Bunny: What's Opera, Doc?

kulpims says...

A 1957 cartoon short in the Merrie Melodies series, directed by Chuck Jones for Warner Bros. Cartoons. The film features Bugs Bunny being chased by Elmer Fudd through a six-minute and 11 second operatic parody of 19th century classical composer Richard Wagner's operas, particularly Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) and Tannhäuser. It is sometimes characterized as a condensed version of Wagner's Ring, and its music borrows heavily from the second opera Die Walküre, woven around the standard Bugs-Elmer conflict.
Originally released to theaters by Warner Bros. on July 6, 1957, What's Opera, Doc? features the speaking and singing voices of Mel Blanc as Bugs and Arthur Q. Bryan as Elmer (except for one word dubbed by Blanc). The short is also sometimes informally referred to as Kill the Wabbit after the line sung by Fudd to the tune of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries," the opening passage from Act Three of Die Walküre (which is also the leitmotif of the Valkyries).
In 1994, What's Opera, Doc? was voted #1 of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time by 1000 members of the animation field.

Jacques Brel - Le Moribond

antimatter says...

(Chorus)

here is a (fairly close) translation:

The Dying Man

Goodbye, Emile, you were my good friend
Goodbye, Emile, you were my good friend, you know
We sang together of the same great wines
We sang together of the same great women
We sang together of our shared sorrows
Goodbye, Emile, I'm going to die
It's difficult to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with peace in my heart
Because I know that you are a good man, good as white bread
You'll take care of my wife after I'm gone

(Chorus)
I want everyone to laugh
I want everyone to dance
I want everyone to party like a bunch of fools
I want everyone to laugh
I want everyone to dance
When they come to put me in my grave

Goodbye, Father Priest, I liked you well enough
Goodbye, Father Priest, I liked you well enough, you know
We weren't always on the same side
We didn't always take the same path
But we were both looking for Heaven just the same
Goodbye, Father Priest, I'm going to die
It's hard to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with peace in my heart
Because you were her Confessor
I know you'll take care of my wife when I'm gone
(Chorus)

Goodbye, Tony, I didn't like you too much
Goodbye, Tony, I didn't like you too much, you know
It's killing me to be dying today
While you are so vigorous and full of life
And stronger even than boredom itself
Goodbye, Tony, I'm going to die
It's hard to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with peace in my heart
Because you were her Lover
I know you'll take care of my wife when I'm gone
(Chorus)

Goodbye, my wife, I love you still
Goodbye, my wife, I love you still, you know
But I'm taking that trip to see the Good Lord today
I'm taking the trip before you do
But we all take that trip when we must
Goodbye, my wife, I'm going to die
It's hard to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with my eyes closed, once more
And because I closed them so many times before
I know you'll take good care of my heart
(Chorus)
