That sound he made of the sound of the event that they measured sends shivers down my spine. When I brokethrough to the "other side" that was the sound I heard and it felt like being sucked through a blackhole with an unimaginable force that broke reality completely apart and into a new one.

I feel the same way Bill Nye does; I don't think they should teach Darwinian evolution to children. It is especially damaging to children to adopt the belief that they are a random accident with no purpose or meaning to their lives rather than a special creation of God, made in His image, and created to fulfill the destiny He planned for them.

Bill seems to think that those who believe in God are simply too weak to accept the idea that we are all glorified apes living on a random mudball, but that isn't true for me or the other Christians I have met. People believe that God exists because an honest conviction, not because they are intimated by the philosophical blackhole that a belief in strict naturalism ultimately leads to. I was a true believer in the secular creation narrative before I came to know that God exists. I was resigned, as some of you are, to die an ultimately meaningless death. I changed my mind because of the evidence revealed to me, not because I was scared about my future.

I suppose you could consider it going on a tangent but I think it's more escalating the topic to the point of being interesting. Anyone who has been around computers for a long time knows how file deletion works and all of us have seen video or movies about people piecing together shredded documents.

The connection to life and information is quite relevant to the topic of deletion. In fact I believe even Stephen Hawking concerned himself with the concept of information loss (deletion) with regards to blackholes and the problems with conservation of energy (energy in the form of entropy). The resolution he came to involved the outer edge of a blackhole maintaining a version of this information forever.

If you expand the scope of the definition of information to be a specific state of the universe at a point in time, including its complex members (ie us and our consciousness), and remove the temporal importance of "now" then we are all information about states of the universe at varying points in its existence.

The point at which even that basic information (the current unique state of the universe) becomes erased or irrelevant (ie heat death when there is a perfectly homogenous distribution of energy throughout the universe) is quite interesting and depressing. At that point any record of the past and the ability to discern one moment of time from the next is gone. With no variation in the universe even time itself becomes impossible to measure unless your an objective viewer of the universe (God?).

And anyway I am sure that many of us have believed in Christianity at one point and that is why we are not open-minded to it any longer. We evolved, we learned, we grew. There is stuff out there, it exists where humans cannot go or see... if there is any proof of a God it is so incomprehensible that no humanly tome could ever express it because it would be so far beyond our earthen lands that we evolved and adapted to that we would have no knowledge of how to communicate or even perceive what it is, what we are made of and what the hell is going on in this vastly complex universe. Point being, if God communicated to Moses, Moses would not understand one fucking word. And if he did understand his mind would probably have physically imploded... like Grahams Number, his head would have imploded into a blackhole.

Another thing that might be interesting to look at is decay rate. We already know how normal mass does it's thing, but anti-matter seems to be for the most part "gone" from the Universe. The non-symmetry aspect of anti-matter will be a big thing in physics, in general, to understand.

So I may have answered my own question as I'm sure decay rates would certainly be an obvious thing to look at. If any of the fundamental forces are different, for example, you could have anti-matter out in space hiding from view in blackholes, etc...

Right now they're looking at dark matter being a sort of "condensed state" matter that "can't" react with anything but itself and weakly at that. Gravity as well (it looks like). Outside of this state we might find it a lot, but we do not understand the mechanism that created it or is creating it. Anti-matter was brought up in this argument. At some point after the big bang the anti-matter would have joined with particle "x" and became this condensed matter that basically has most of it's fundamental forces bound to itself. Therefore, unless this stuff breaks apart due to some process, we may never find it as it is essentially swept under the rug and we can't lift the rug.

It's funny that she won't show what it really is like at church w/ closed doors. That might turn off a few Americans. In the end the fate of the planet rests in the American Political System or the Large Hadron Collider. I think the APS has a great chance of reaching critical mass and will need much less velocity to get the job done.

Like she said, there are imperfections in the tools they are using. In her own words, correcting the atmospheric imperfections will allow us to see stars closer still than those we can see, meaning more mass, meaning closer to the radius. And who is to say we'll ever be able to see everything that is at the centre? Who's to say the means of correction don't provide false positives or negatives - if i corrected an image of a pebble under a stream, would i see 1 pebble, 2 pebbles, or half a pebble, and if i could never put my hand in and check, how would i know the truth? We'd need more and powerful telescopes outside our own atmosphere. What about the masses of objects that we don't yet know about that we have to identify through means other than direct observation? Yes?
