55 Gallon Steel Drum Can Crush

John Stossel's Illegal Everything

renatojj says...

@akamat, you're right to be suspicious, but not everything that comes out of Fox News is neocon garbage. Most of it is, though, but not everything. Whenever Stossel is "interviewed" by Bill O'Reilly, they often disagree on many issues.

Ron Paul signed off on racist newsletters, associates say (Politics Talk Post)

longde says...

Hey QM, thanks for taking the effort to respond. Now:

Black and white people clap differently? You're making my point for me. For some guy to speculate on racial differences--not racial inferiority or superiority--doesn't make him a racist.

On the second quote, "white folks greed", yeah that's a racist quote. Given the setup of America, whose oligarchy is dominated by white people, I think it's accurate. But it's racist all the same. But if this is racist, then posting those crime statistics of African American youth, as you often do, is racist as well.

Where are the sifts demanding white people be destroyed? I guess I missed those. Is it the Louis Theroux one?

>> ^quantumushroom:

As much as people bemoan Reverend Wright, I never really got the controversy.
Can you please give me a direct quote where the pastor denigrates white people?

In his speech to the NAACP, Wright speculated that, "Africans have a different meter, and Africans have a different tonality. Europeans have seven tones, Africans have five. White people clap differently than black people. Africans and African-Americans are right-brained, subject-oriented in their learning style. They have a different way of learning." The comments were labeled as racist,[85] and likened to eugenics. This initiated a revival of the controversy, which had been slowly waning. --wikipedia
Obama stated that he was aware of Pastor Wright's controversial comments, and had personally heard "remarks that could be considered controversial" in Wright's church, but denied having heard the particular inflammatory statements that were widely televised during the campaign. Obama was specifically asked by Bill O'Reilly if Reverend Wright had said white people were bad, to which Obama replied "no." In his book Dreams from my Father, Obama had quoted Reverend Wright as saying in a sermon "It's this world, where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where White folks' greed runs a world in need."
To me it's just another ridiculous Obama fable that in 20 years he heard "nothing unusual".
When running for President, I don't think you'd want to be associated with a church where a d1psh1t shouts "God damn America!" from the pulpit, and "Reverend" Wright went on a vitriolic tour calculated to destroy Obama when the latter left his church.
Also, we've got more than one sift of Blacks demanding White people be exterminated and liberalsifters couldn't care less, because only Whites and non-liberals are truly racist.

Hell Hath Frozen Over: Bill O'Reilly Defends Ellen DeGeneres

Absolutely. And the rest of the world has the right to tell One Million Moms to fuck off.
>> ^Porksandwich:
I think it's wrong to tell them to fire her because she's gay. But....... I think you should be allowed to express your dissatisfaction when a company you have dealings with does business with someone you don't like/approve of/whatever.

Yeah, but the Bill O'Reilly stance on this just comes off a little strange, like no one in the world has ever disapproved of a business spokesman, sports team mascot, etc, based on looks, lifestyle, religion, etc.
The stance seems to be at Fletch says it, phony for the appearance of "fairness".
Oh, yes, 100% agreed. Sorry, I wasn't arguing against you really.

I was half suspecting he was after the "gay" money/support, since there are many well-to-do gay people who support people who are for their rights. But I feel more confident of that now that others are pointing out that it seems out of character for him.

Most recent comes to mind when the child molestation charges came to light in Penn State, people were demanding that the guys accused be removed. It's not the same, but they were allegations and charges not a conviction.

Teachers being fired for conduct outside of their job and/or their past, or comments in public forums.

Tiger Woods and his affairs, people wanted his sponsors to drop him.

Swimmer dude, whose name I can't remember who smokes pot...people wanted sponsors to drop him.

Hell, people want smoking taken out of television shows due to messages it sends.

There is a history of this......crime related, lifestyle related, whatever...people exert pressures on companies to put forth an image that makes them comfortable being a customer at those locations.

Hell, I'd be against games using Bill O'Reilly as a voice actor because I can't stand his voice after all the drivel he's spewed. Hell, it bugs me when they have him doing fake news stuff in movies/shows I watch....because I feel like Im endorsing him somehow.

Chinese Youth Discuss what is Wrong with the USA

renatojj says...

@Drachen_Jager, why you making excuses for free speech being a failure bro? Don't you agree that Bill O'Reilly is only possible because of free speech? I mean, imagine if there were laws banning Bill O'Reilly or his ideas, society would be better off. Who cares if it undermines or sets a bad precedent against free speech?
</ sarcarm>

But seriously, I'm sure no one would ever say, "Free speech doesn't work, because we have stuff like Bill O'Reilly, etc", I mean, yeah, free speech ALLOWS Bill O'Reilly's speech, but would it make sense to condemn free speech because not everyone is using it to say wonderful and truthful things?

Chinese Youth Discuss what is Wrong with the USA

Drachen_Jager says...

You have it backwards. Fox "News" is a product of two things.

1) Corporate control of the government.

2) Runaway corporate payoffs for the top 1%.

Fox "News" is all about maintaining and growing the income gap. The speech of Bill O, Rush etc. is not free. It is very expensive, but in America if a half-billion spent in the right places can save you tens of billions in taxes while allowing you to cut workers wages, bust unions and send work overseas it's considered a bargain.

Chinese media is just as bad, and even more one-sided than American media. They will always support Foxconn for instance, and I doubt the problem of suicides etc. at the plant have even had the slightest mention in Chinese media.

Make no mistake, this is not about free speech. If anything Fox and the billionaires behind it would like to destroy free speech, not protect it.

United States knows the importance of free speech but doesn't have a free economy. China is reaping the benefits of a freer economy but is still scared of free speech.

Yeah, Go Foxconn, ...

Terrible things indeed, but blaming that on economic freedom is like blaming free speech for Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and our terribly biased mainstream media.

Neil deGrasse Tyson on Gingrich's Moon Colony

Yogi says...

I'm SORT of worried that Neil might get dragged down into too many political discussions but I'm glad he stayed above the fray here. He's dead on and he would know more about this sort of thing than any other "expert" that's usually featured on these types of shows. Speaking of which I have no idea which show this is...that guy ain't Bill O'Reilly though that much is obvious.

Just hoping Neil stays above the fray...stays frosty.
