Horrific Multi-Car Freeway Wreck - Los Angeles

eoe says...

I understand people don't like being good samaritans by default, but it would have been smart (and nice) to just leave your car in front of the cars with your emergency lights on and just wait at the side of the road. Even better if it's a big rig or a large truck. You'd likely prevent more cars piling up for the price of your patience and time. And, depending on how good you are at Frogger, your safety.

Cop Maces Bikers As They Ride By On The Freeway

Yeah, Ontario has the rule now too, implemented a couple of years ago, but for a specific reason: there was apparently an idiotic game some big rigs drivers would play, trying to knock off an officer's hat with their side mirror. With predictably horrible results.

To avoid the lame defense that it was an oopsie, drivers are not forced to vacate the lane.

It was extended to cover all emergency vehicles and tow trucks last year too IIRC.

And I did actually see a woman get pulled over by a cop for buzzing by in the right lane - that, of course, is the appropriate response, rather than a ridiculous pepper spray attack. Wow.

I think they were referring to this portion:

(1) vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle when driving on a highway with two or more lanes traveling in the direction of the emergency vehicle

However, I can tell you that on a stopped police car, I have never seen someone follow this rule in Texas and I've been driving here since 1989. I would also add that the penalty for breaking this law is a misdemeanor, it doesn't specify in the statute that the officer should use a weapon on the drivers that might cause them to wreck and create havoc.

Deray McKesson: Eloquent, Focused Smackdown of Wolf Blitzer

Despite that he can understand it without condoning it, he shouldn't refuse or be incapable of actually stating that he doesn't condone it.

Sure he's articulate, though I don't know why he should be praised for that (it seems kind of insulting to me; he shouldn't be expected to be articulate because he's a black man taking up a black cause?), but he's also being a politician, dancing around on the fence.

Regardless, I would have no problem admitting I would condone rioters causing property damage as long as 1) it's the only way their voice will actually be heard and cause change, and, more importantly, 2) NO INNOCENT PEOPLE SUFFER as a result of their rioting.

If they physically injure people or put small business owner's out of business or cause uninsured motorists to lose their transportation to work or pull truck drivers out of big rigs to smash their heads with bricks, then fuck them.

Red Neck trucker says NO to this blonde trying to merge...

lucky760 says...

Negative, chief.

1) If you turn up the volume and listen closely, you can hear him change gears right before he starts accelerating. Are you really claiming it's not possible for a big-rig to change to a higher gear and put their foot down on the gas in a way that it would increase its speed?

2) The Nissan in front of him wasn't slowing down.

3) From all my years as a rambling man in the trucking game hauling loads down winding roads from Anaheim to New Orleans, truckers know full well how to teach a blonde bitch a lesson usually with the voice of CB Savage (look it up) in the back of their mind. If he wasn't trying to scare or collide, he could have slowed to prevent the accident. Unless you're saying big-rigs are also not capable of slowing down.

I love how passionate everybody is about debating traffic. How cute we all are.

Shepppard said:

You probably should, as the issue of him intentionally closing the gap is addressed numerous times by the fact that this isn't a pickup truck, it's a semi, which is incapable of speeding up that quickly to intentionally block the person trying to merge, and if you pay closer attention to the cars ahead of the truck, it looks more like the gap was closed from the front, not behind (traffic looks to be slowing down as it nears the top of a hill)

wow, this video is getting way more comments than expected.

some are saying the semi sped up.
i do not see any evidence of this.if this trucker shifted and hit the gas..you would know it,i am partially deaf and i would know it.
i do,however, see conditions further up that precipitate the lane slowing down, which of course will give the illusion the trucker is speeding up.

i am not that interested in the legalese as some of you are, considering that lawful right or wrong are meaningless when people can die.

i am far more concerned with safety.
maybe if the trucker was not on the phone he would have noticed captain retard inching in and could have responded appropriately i.e:downshift..let off the gas.(NOT jam the brakes, unless you want a scene from the A-team).

conclusion=fail

maybe if speedy gonzales didn't treat a 40 ton big rig as a normal 2 ton car that had the ability to defy the laws of physics and just assumed that he/she would be let in by mr nice rig master, maybe they would not have 5k worth of body work on their car.

conclusion=fail

this could have gone so much worse than it did,and for that i am glad.

it still bothers me how some drivers deal with semi big-rigs.they truly are clueless and endanger not only themselves but everybody on the highway around them by their impatient and selfish driving.

Horrifying 120 car crash in Michigan

Fucking horrifying.

All I can think watching this kind of thing is I wish someone could do something, but what? At most all I can imagine is someone going back a few hundred yards and throwing road flares into the road. That'll never happen. The only thing you can do is not drive so damned fast when you can't see what's in front of you. That also will never happen.

Unless there's a news report saying no one was killed, I'm afraid this does qualify as snuff because it doesn't seem possible that the car sandwiched between big-rigs was survivable.

How to behave in traffic

SFOGuy says...

And he's moving a lot of mass. Stop-and-going, accelerating and stopping that large mass would be quite arguably terribly inefficient economically (wear and tear; increased fuel consumption)---and big rigs being jerked to a stop is scary.

Fantastic. I hope she misses a car payment because of the ticket.

Stupid drivers put the public at risk. Driving is not a right it is a privileged.

I am annoyed at inattentive and overall overly aggressive assholes on the highway EVERYDAY !

I follow my boss who drives the "big rig", while I follow in a dodge 5500 loaded to the nuts with three thousand pounds of water towing a seven thousand pound trailer and people are just ignorant, non thinking fucking idiots. People who write their own rules when on the road should not be on the road.

()*&%$_)#*(&#$)(* NOW i AM uppity thinking about those dangerous assholes.

I just cant stand people who do not obey traffic laws. If everyone follows the same rules no one should get hurt, we get accidents because of the other asshats.

This dumb cunt should not be driving or should at least have to go to driving school. First time loser is indeed in my vocabulary. Take the boots to the bitch.

/end rant.
