This Place Has Been Amazing, But It's Time To Leave :) (History Talk Post)

Lodurr says...

Interesting read.

I had a similar experience to Gwiz' about 15 years ago, I went to visit a girl and her friend whom I'd only talked to on the internet (Prodigy at the time) just to hang out and play music. The short of it is that being friends with someone on the internet is vastly different than being friends in real life. There was tons of awkwardness and weird expectations on both sides, and when I got home we had a short e-mail flame war and that was that. For a long time I questioned my behavior on that trip, but even if I could eliminate all the awkward moments from my time with them, we still wouldn't have remained friends.

One thing I've learned about women is that they reserve the right to hit the "Eject" button on any relationship (including friendships) at any time. There are usually warning signs but they're hard or impossible for guys to see. Being logical, being considerate--and even being honest--is less important than feeling safe and secure and comfortable with you, and that's how it's supposed to be.

Letterman Responds to Palin Outrage

KamikazeCricket says...

Letterman started off saying something to the effect that he noticed that Palin had perfected her 'slutty flight attendant' look. Then he said Palin's daughter was 'knocked up' by Arod during a Yankee's game. It's a good example of neolib double-standard on treatment of others.
Chelsea Clinton and Obama's kids are appropriately off-limits. But neolibs are OK joking about raping kids as long as they're a Republican's. Imagine the horror if Dave had said, "But there was an awkward moment for Arod beat up Obama's daughters..." or "Clinton had an awkward moment when Arod knocked up Chelsea and realized it meant both he and Arod sleep with ugly chicks..."
Letterman hasn't been funny for years, and I guess he's decided that if he can't be funny he might as well be controversial. Letterman can say whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned. If he wants to joke about raping or killing Republican kids then go right ahead. At least he's open about it. Those who find such things funny merely are aligned in the lock-step zombie group-think that is the modern neolib. Neolibs are bitter, angry, spiteful, mean people who find the mistreatment of children funny as long as it they are kids of people they don't like.
Wave that banner Dave!

Awww how cute. You've all invented another silly political group that doesn't actually exist!

You can stick "neo" in front of anything and instantly call it something to hate... This is just a scapegoat to give you something other than the real issues to be mad at. Whats next? Neocommunists? Neolibertarians? Liberal isn't even a well defined political term. Does everyone really think the same thing when someone says "liberal" or even "conservative" for that matter? I seriously doubt it.

Maybe if they did stupid shit like Bristol or the Bush twins they would be more easy to make fun of.

Barack Obama sworn in as 44th President of the United States

chilaxe says...

Roberts started reciting - and Obama repeating - the 35-word oath that is prescribed by the Constitution. But then Obama paused after Roberts reversed several words in the oath.

The oath includes the phrase "that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States" but Roberts did not say "faithfully" until after saying "president of the United States."

Obama seemed to realize that something was out of order. With Obama not reciting, Roberts then repeated the phrase correctly, the brief awkward moment ended and Obama was back on track. Roberts was then the first to congratulate Obama on his new job.

McCain & Obama have an awkward moment at the Debate

T-man says...

>> ^burdturgler:
I'm surprised you're still defending this T-man after seeing the other video. I downvoted this because the title implies they did not shake hands at all, when they clearly did. If the title was "McCain & Obama have an awkward moment" it might be different. Right now it says "McCain Not Shaking Obama's Hand at the Debate" which he did, just not in this clip.
In any event, congrats on what will surely be top 15 based on title alone.

OK. Good idea. I should have thought of that earlier.

Women on Pick Up Lines

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Woman always say they they don't like pick-up lines. But men are usually expected to break the ice - and at that awkward moment, anything that comes out of their mouth is considered a pick-up line and open to female ridicule.

I'd like to hear an example of something you could say to a stranger of the opposite sex in the bar that wouldn't be taken as a pick-up line.

Craig Ferguson interviews Jennifer Love Hewitt - 27 Sep 07

legacy0100 says...

I love Craig's show because interviews seem longer than his counter part shows. And it's usually good quality too.

He doesn't just ask those brain dead questions and stop there, ending the interview short when things begin to be funny and non-scripted. Though sometimes proven to have awkward moments, he asks questions that are obviously not rehearsed, and get fresh responses everytime.

There's been hits and misses, but I'd say they're still lot better than your fake, dull interviews of Leno, Letterman (that buck tooth asshole!) and Conan. Well, maybe not Leno, but it's still too short for my liking.
