... however, to a significant portion of society it IS newsworthy when popular-culture figures, professional atheletes, or publicly elected officials have problems. They exist to us as creations of our collective societal conciousness, and guffawing at their imperfect lives both brings them momentarily down to the level of the lowely tv viewer and gives another easily digested collective story to share socially.

Marie Antoinette was said to be cheating on her husband the King with his brother-in-law, Charles X. Popular and scandalous pamphlets were circulated with drawings of them having butt-sex... I REST MY CASE! hah

Derek Redmond finishing the 400m in Barcelona 1992 Olympics.

I ran 400 & 4x400, heck I ran hurdles, and I get the fall down and keep going to finish. But if you are a world class athelete... you don't keep running on an injury. That's like getting up and stretching after a spinal injury. I think it makes more sense you just post a DNF than a world class crappy time. This was the Olympics, right? A DNF shows you had a problem, not that you are the world's slowest sprinter. I'm guessing the record books have DNF anyways.

Anyways, after further review, he did tear his hamstring, and he was disqualified from is last place finish (due to father's assist?)

Joe Eigo Compiliation - (urban ninja type athelete)

while i respect this athelete and other parkour atheletes..
he is not a ninja, and most of his moves are not actually useful in as actual fight . acrobatic moves are only useful for show, but not as useful as a good blow to the head.

but still an upvote for me...

High Speed Police Chase After Bicycle Rider on Freeway (57 secs)

"I will never vote for one of these faked sports ads, I don't see how anyone can be amused by an impossible feat, rendered in CGI."
That's a pretty interesting statement. I really enjoyed every one of those Powerade (I think that was the advertised product) commercials with atheletes performing superhuman feats (like jumping across an open drawbridge, etc). They, like this video, are obviously not real, but are fun to watch for the sole reason that they *look* real. From what you're saying it seems you also wouldn't be able to enjoy a movie like Superman, for instance, because his flying is an impossible feat and only rendered with CGI.

The only *real* telltale evidence hinting that this is not real is the fake video signal interference. It is very obviously a post-processing graphical effect. That's what gave it away to me at least. Otherwise, it does a very good job of making you believe the events are plausible.

The movie District B13 is actually already out, saw it about 2 months ago. Has cyril and david belle. Its a french film, english subs. It was playing in select theaters around here in seattle. It was ok, good action scenes. which is of course why we watch This russian kid is very good. If you wnat to see other amazing feats of athleticism, should really check out more of david belle, the father of the sport, he does some pretty mind blowing stuff. Also, joe eigo is an amazing athelete who mixed capoera and other martial arts with breakdancing and other stuff, he calls it multilevelmoves, check em out, worth the watch.
