MyHouse.WAD - Inside Doom's Most Terrifying Mod

Yeah, I don't know where my DOOM wad files from decades ago. Did I ever mention MY Doom 2 mods? http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/files/doom2/j2doom/j2doom.html

It's really not all that involved - the hardest part is absolutely going to be finding Doom2.wad. If you (like me) have an old CD on hand you probably already have that, though I recognize there's a huge difference between "I have the cd" and "I can easily access the cd"...

After you have that though, it's just a matter of:
1 Downloading / unzipping GZDoom (free, easy to find)
2 Tossing Doom2.wad and the mod's .pk3 file into the unzipped GZDoom folder, and
3 Dragging the .pk3 onto gzdoom.exe.

Getting mods up and running in something like Skyrim or Fallout is substantially more fiddly.

Me too! Diamond Monster 3D. I remember GLquake and QuakeWorld. Wow. And then a Creative Labs 3D Blaster and on. http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/toys.html for my history.

I got a 4mb Voodoo 1 passthrough card when they first came out and to this day still think it was the most "holy shit!" game changer I have ever seen. 800x600 using Glide was unreal. I also had a GF 256 and while it certainly smoked the Voodoos in performance, the difference between software rendering and the Glide API was mindblowing.

The 7th Guest: Official Trailer

ant says...

According to my http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/toys.html history, I got my first CD-ROM drive (2X speed) in 12/1993. I remember buying game CDs for Rebel Assault, Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn), etc. It was awesome.

Did anyone play 11th Guest, the sequel? I played that on Computer City(?)'s computer demo PC. It was OK.

Ah...the 7th Guest. Back in those days almost every PC makers are bundling this game and/or Myst to up-sell their CD-ROM drives.

Nice. My family donated it to a neighbor since we got Apple //c. http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/toys.html for my history!

Yes, i believe so. My family had a number of writable cartridge computers. There was always dozens of computers lying around spanning generations. After a point though, they ended up in the garage and now its the modern age. But back in the day, we had such a range of old computers lying around. it was like an episode of hoarders but all technology. lol

Do you consider the film Die Hard a Christmas movie? (User Poll by eric3579)

ant says...

Wow, I don't think I ever played that mod. I wished I kept my mod. It had T1000 terminators. Hey, at least I kept my DOOM 2 mods: http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/files/doom2/j2doom/j2doom.html ...

Also, you should submit the video to VS.

Not really, no. A Christmas movie to me has Christmas as an essential part of the plot, not just a movie that is regularly showing on Christmas.

That said, this reminds me of the Christmas version of Castle Wolfenstein 3D...

Nice. You can see some in my favorite tunes list: http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/songs.html

Oh! And of course: Demoscene!

Demoscene is similar to chiptunes, but spawned about a decade (?) before the NES really popularized game tunes, and came out of Europe's, uh, "demo scene" (computer programming demos usually focused around visuals with accompanying soundtracks).
If you're ever into that kind of thing, I can recommend Nectarine Radio (scenemusic.net), though they occasionally drift into euro-crap disco-pop, they're essentially a searchable/playable database of the history of European (primarily) computer game soundtracks and demo music. Also a very strange, unique genre that shares a significant amount with the game medium!

I put thousands of hours into Doom when it first came out. I went back and played it over the years, but probably not seriously after the turn of the millennium.
When I saw the video of Brutal Doom earlier this year I set aside a weekend for a little "Doom revival" for myself, and played through the entirety of Doom and Doom 2 with the Brutal mod.
I say with all sincerity that the thrills I got from that experience were like playing Doom again for the first time.
