Christian Bale goes...um...Batshit (Wtf Talk Post)

RhesusMonk says...

K. Bale is a method actor whose wife had to threaten to divorce him before he would respond to her calling him anything but "Bruce" or "Mr. Wayne" throughout the prep period and filming of "Batman Begins." He was viciously difficult to manage on the set of "The Machinist" and "American Psycho." He is as well known for his deep method as Brando was during his prime. For most of us, movies are something we do once in a while for a good time, so they seem almost superfluous. But to method actors, knowing and being a character can be the greatest pursuit of their lives--no shit. If this did happen during an intense scene, and the activity of this guy, who seems to have been doing something entirely unnecessary at the time, was taking him out of character, it would truly compromise the integrity of the film. If you think that making a movie is not something to take seriously enough to blow up the way Bale did, think about how comparatively meaningless some of your jobs have been and how emotionally attached you've gotten to your tasks and responsibilities.

American Psycho - Business Card Scene

Crispin Glover in 'River's Edge'

my15minutes says...

why not both?
that's why he's a great character actor.

overacting a little, is what makes a small part memorable. which helps make the movie memorable. and let's face it, some of that is not an act.
but you wouldn't want to see a whole movie, about most of the people he's played. which means he's a good lead for horror movies, and not much else. because you're not supposed to fully empathize with the protagonist, in a horror flick.
just enough to make it interesting.

Was the quote too obscure?

Haha, I hadn't thought of that song in a while, but I'm listening to it now. Thanks for the reminder.

Also, nice avatar.

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility.

America's Got Talent - 11 year old girl ROCKS the stage

parra says...

Hmm, if you forget for a minute that she's a little girl, once you get past the old Mariah-style vocal-showing-off it wasn't a very good performance. I don't see why she should be favoured just cause she has a freakishly grownup singing voice.

After all, that gimmick's only going to last a few more years.

Haha I loved the judges comments though, it reminded me of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho - "I SAID, do not wear that outfit again. Wear a dress or skirt or something... and high heels, I like high heels"
