Black Sabbath-War Pigs (Iraq footage.)

Scheduled Down Time Tonight (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

I've found a different configuration issue that I'm pretty certain is what was causing the slow Ajax requests (like voting and commenting).

Those types of things should be sped up a bit now with any luck.

Thanks!

Why Iran hates us

notarobot says...

In 1951 Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq received the vote required from the parliament to nationalize the British-owned oil industry, in a situation known as the Abadan Crisis. Despite British pressure, including an economic blockade, the nationalization continued.

August 19, 1953, a successful coup was headed by retired army general Fazlollah Zahedi, organized by the United States (CIA) with the active support of the British (MI6) (known as Operation Ajax). The coup—with a black propaganda campaign designed to turn the population against Mossadegh—forced Mossadegh from office. Mossadegh was arrested and tried for treason. /wikipedia

Iran got trampled on and interfered with by foreign nations exploiting her natural resources--oil. I'd be pissed too.

By contrast, Iran knows what happened to her next door neighbour after Iraq changed the preferred currency for oil sales from USD to Euros late in 2000 (They switched back to dollars in 2003.)

VideoSift 5.0 Launch! (Sift Talk Post)

doogle says...

a few things initially:
1) I can't see comments unless I click on the video's page. I really liked seeing comments inset on the sift scroll.
2) I can't "minimize" the video. This is necessary, as some videos load, and I queue them on the page, some take longer or I don't want them to load while others are loading, or I don't want them to load anymore after determining I don't want them to load as I load others.
3) Please tell me I can see longer descriptions ajax-style without needing to see the video's dedicated VideoSift page.

All in all, I love the style of Videosift v5. Any snapshots out there of what V1 and v2 looked like? I'm nostalgic.

Bill Maher New Rules 4/20/12

Hm odd. I didn't add anything.
The Embed is shown as
<iframe width="500" height="281" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/xq9qkr?wmode=transparent" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
when I edit it... Does that look wrong?
>> ^radx:

Why does this embed need access to MS's Ajax CDN? No other DM embed requires anything of the sort, and neither does this one if I submit it myself.

Why would you think that message was directed at you ? Your horse seems a little high if you think that was refering to you specifically. It did take me a wopping couple seconds, the fact it happened to me as well is why I posted that. What turned my " oh for fuck sakes" crank for my video analogy was this phrase

" Why can't videosift remember me for more than two weeks.
I have to log on to this site soo often. Not more than once a day or week, but still so many times"

What that said to me is that you have a problem with logging in once every 7-10 days. So every 7-10 days you have to log in, okay, I can understand how you want to fix the problem, but your wording just sounded like a crying little wiener wanting everything to be perfect. The video has jack all to do with your immediate problem it had to do with the comparison of people bitching about stupid little shit that they should just be happy that it works in the first place.

But that second reply was nothing to do with you. I figured it was time I let you in on the little secret. Lets say you sign in not once a day or once a week but once every ten days, thast three times a month and you make it seems like such great efforts were taken to do so.

CHEERIO !

You just can't let it go can you ;-)

Here's how I use videosift. I open the homepage, then open all videos I want to check out in new tabs. So then I have like 10 tabs open, the result of a selection process.

It is only then that I discover that I am not logged in, and then I have 10 tabs open without me being logged in, and having to log on on every page. Plus, even though the login process is partly Ajax, it is not all Ajax, so you should not attempt to log on when the video is playing, because then it will reload the page. It is frigging annoying, and this is not rocket science to implement.

Happened to me earlier like it did to Sarzy.
Took me a whopping six seconds to enter my info.

I see. Would encoding it as "%2B" in the request fix that?

I'm not complaining this time, I'm just curious.

In reply to this comment by lucky760:
They're not actually sanitized, per se. The plus symbol over HTTP is a space, so when the newly posted comment pops up, the + is converted in the AJAX request to a space. Despite that fact, the comment actually contains the +, which is evident if you reload the page.

In reply to this comment by xxovercastxx:
How come the plus symbol is sanitized from comments on first post but is allowed during an edit?

NCIS- The ultimate slap in the face for computer geeks

Friesian says...

Serious upvote for the excellent description which accompanies this video.

If they'd SLI'd their graphics output into a DVI channel over SCSI, then lowjacked that across the north bridge while simultaneously compiling an internal object protocol, they might have been able to deflect the incoming Ajax code injection into a root channel PHP dustbin, effectively reversing the polarity of the data hub and causing magnetic failure of the intruder's hard drive.

If only that jackass hadn't pulled the plug then they would have been able to turn the tables!

Eisenhower -- loses a lot of points for authorizing Operation Ajax and other foreign policy blunders.
JFK -- loses major points for that bay of pigs fiasco and Vietnam.
Nixon -- the biggest psychopathic douchebag ever to get himself elected to the presidency.
Ford -- well, at least he appointed John Paul Stevens.
Carter -- At least he had sensible foreign policy, rolling back imperialism. Stagflation was triggered by high oil prices which were caused by OPEC.
Reagan -- ignorant bigot who tripled the debt.
Bill Clinton -- was the best president we've had since Truman. Genuinely cares about helping people as evidenced by what he's done after the presidency, unlike all the recent republican presidents.
George Bush -- Worst president since Andrew Johnson.
Obama -- Pretty lame so far. Keeps trying to play nice and compromise with republicans while they spit in his face and make increasingly extreme demands. Caved in on almost all his campaign promises without even putting up a fight. He should turn the tables -- threaten to veto funds going to the the state/district of any republican who threatens to filibuster good legislation.

Video embed backup – An idea for the submissions page (Geek Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

This is a good idea. I would probably like to take it one step further and keep it as it is, but have a button trigger an ajax load of a second embed box, clearly marked, with another button for a third etc. so that in theory you could embed from many places. This would work sorta like the frontpage does when you scroll to the bottom, an in-page load.

Excellent and timely.

Hehe, poor you. I wish you can have a weekend off soon.

Should be all fixed now. Do a hard reload and you should be good to go.

R&R? Yeah, right. That'll be the day. Thanks.

In reply to this comment by gwiz665:
It seems that the ajax isn't posting the comments as you make it anymore. Happened to me a couple of times now, when hitting "submit new comment" the text in, well, this box I'm writing in is just erased. I have to hit f5 to see the comment I just made - I imagine it can lead to lots of double post, so wanted to give you a heads up.

Have you been enjoying some R&R after the big move?
