The 20-Year-Old With a Plan to Rid the Sea of Plastic

There's a Secret Vehicle on the Millennium Falcon!

Ickster says...

The Millennium Falcon is a perfect cross between a kid's dream fort, and a 70's teen's dream van. It's freedom, it's got cool hiding places, it has a Habitrail leading to the feaking GUNS--what more could a young man want in a vehicle?

I know I've wanted one since the first time I saw Star Wars.

Spider-Woman's Big Ass Is A Big Deal - Maddox

Oh yeah I've seen plenty of Manara's work before; but you say you enjoyed his work as a young man? What's stopping you now? Manara is 68 and he seems to enjoy his work just fine. I'm 41 and if I ever stop enjoying that then I may consider that to be a sure sign that it's time to pack it in.
@Xaielao
I think it looks fine to me. Women are typically better endowed in the hip department than men are so if you're comparing it to the picture of Spiderman then they should look different.

True, I think the intention behind the two covers is very different, even if the results are similar. In the Spider-man cover, he looks like a spider who has already wrapped up his helpless terrified prey. And if you know about spiders you know what happens next, it's pretty nasty. The real spider in the lower right corner helps drive home the impression.

Where as with the Spider-woman cover I don't have any real doubt that Milo Manara was trying to make her sexy; that's kind of his thing. He's best known as an erotic artist and his artwork ranges from pinup girl to pretty hardcore porn (which I enjoyed as a young man). Check out his Wikipedia page and the first thing you'll see is that that pose is not one he's new at drawing.

I think where critics go wrong is the idea that sexiness implies sexism. If she were both drawn as sexy and being degraded or made fun of that would qualify as sexism. But there's got to be some room for sensuality without automatically feeling it's a personal insult to all women.

The Spiderman cover is actually kinda creepy, it looks like he got over excited and entrapped all those poor criminals in a big ball of Spidey Sperm.

God loving parents give gay son a choice

visionep says...

This is not a kid, he is a young man at 19 years old. Why is everyone so sad for him that he has to go live on his own? $60K on the go fund me site is ridiculous.

When I was 18, a few months after graduating high school, my mom asked me to move out because I was coming home to late. (Fortunately it wasn't quite the heated discussion this guy had to endure) Should I have been crying to everyone I knew about how unfair it was and that my mom didn't love me?

I agree that this guy's parents are horrible and ignorant, but I don't feel bad for this guy. He is an adult and needed to get away from those people if he was going to have any chance of not being like them. If anything being gay will help him move away from the ignorance that he was raised with and hopefully make him a better human than his parents.

God loving parents give gay son a choice

Jinx says...

Yes, they too are victims of a belief system that has made them substitute the love for their son for a master-slave relationship with an abusive father-god. If we shout loud enough they might start to dismantle their self constructed prison. No matter how long, or loudly you and your fellow cultists bellow, this young man will still be gay.

But ok. We are basically the same as the bigots because we are intolerant of their bigotry. Certainly no brain will have a problem parsing that sentence!

You expect the parents to be tolerant of their son's predilection, but you have no tolerance for their predilection.

Bogota Police Officer Regina Tasca Suspended

newtboy jokingly says...

Abusive cops...no...don't exist. Cops breaking the law, violently attacking a citizen, no, never, didn't happen.
Gay cop, nope, she's an obvious plant put there by the homo-agenda to trick other officers into behaving badly on video.
We need to hear the lies that excuse officers beating an impaired young man that's not a threat, because their excuse obviously trumps video and the fellow officers position.
With my blue colored glasses, I can't see the cops punching him in the face then tackling him.
Oh Lantern53. You're such a team player, but for the wrong team buddy. You're on the side of a violent criminal gang, one trying to claim they're above reproach even when caught clearly on video being criminal.

lantern53 said:

Illegal tackle? what is that?

first gay female police officer? hello agenda

how about we hear from the other officer's involved?

the video is too far away to see what's happening

Speaking Out On Street Harassment

bareboards2 says...

That is just the point.

I had the physical skills to take this guy down.

It is the silence that is the problem for women.

I heard another story in that self defense class, which I think will illustrate what I mean even better.

A young woman at college was on a date. She went back to the young man's dorm room. He trapped her there for three days, continually raping her. She could hear people walking down the hall, she could hear people next door, and she never called out. She said later -- she didn't want to make a scene.

Women need to make a scene. We need to teach our girls to make a scene, and they will grow up to be women who make scenes. With clear, true voices.

It is the verbal equivalent of "the pen is mightier than the sword." Kneeing some guy in the balls, in the long run, is not nearly as effective as teaching our girls and women to speak up.

ChaosEngine said:

That is awful. Forget speaking, if it happens again (and I sincerely hope it doesn't) turn around and knee him right in the balls. Hard.

Insurance scam doesn't go as planned

draak13 says...

It would indeed be wildly malicious of anyone to say that he *deserved* to be run over, as if this were a necessary and required repercussion to his action. I would hope that everyone here would avoid running him over if they were in such a position, regardless of how stupid the pedestrian is being.

However, I believe that Lucky, who started this chain, had a highly valid point. If this person were mentally retarded and wasn't able to recognize this as a bad decision, this would indeed be a time for pity. However, when someone knowingly makes a bad decision, a person is certainly less deserving of our pity. Wishing the entire incident didn't happen would certainly be called for, but that person knew he was doing something bad when he was doing it. Perhaps we could instead pity the driver, who now must live with the horror that she has potentially killed or crippled a young man, with only a small amount of fault on her part (checking for people diving under your car isn't a normal part of making a left turn). The psychological repercussions of this will keep with her for the rest of her life.

ChaosEngine said:

That is exactly my point. I'm not saying it wasn't his fault, I'm saying the price he paid was exceedingly high. He did something stupid and greedy, yes, but that doesn't mean he should be paralysed or even killed for it.

If the car had run over his foot or the guy filming turned out to be working for the insurance company and sued him or something, that would be karma and I'd be right there agreeing that he got what he deserved.

Yes, I'd have more sympathy if he wasn't such an assclown but I don't believe anyone deserves what happened to him.

Stella Young: I'm not your inspiration, thank you very much

effin98 says...

I remember working in a group home for adults with developmental disabilities, and going to a dance that was held for various other similar adults. Among the dancers was a loud, desperate woman who was grinding on a number of thighs, and a douchey young man who made fun of other young men who were dancing and having a good time. It really humanized these adults with disabilities when my first impression of them was, "I don't think I like those people."

To Catch a Predator - Hot Teacher

jwray says...

The point is the willingness of the parties involved (which in this case was related to the adult being hot. And I suppose the hotness of the adult made the crew less likely to disregard the stated preference of the young man because they could more easily see themselves in his shoes). The point is that when both people are old enough and mentally competent enough to have sexual desires and fulfill them responsibly, government should stay out of their bedrooms except in cases of violence or coersion. And when in doubt, government should err on the side of liberty over safety.
