Hancock - New Trailer :) Haha! Drunk Super Anti-Hero! (HQ)
Someone mark this...
I spot a Wilhelm Scream.
One mans beautiful collaboration with nature
Upvote for art. The music nearly killed me. It sounded like Bjork. I don't even care that it's not Bjork. I don't even care if it didn't sound like Bjork to you. It reminded me of what I think Bjork sounds like. It's creepy. It's, like, cappuccino grunge tripe that you listen to when you want people to think you're cool. Here's the formula: String some inane crap together, poke around on a sequencer when you're hung over and sing with condescending boredom, slurring your words as if in a heroin haze. </wilhelm scream>
Scenes that Should Have the Wilhelm Scream
I am pretty sure that sound effect really originates from magic carpet (and was later sold into a effects library).
And its incredibly common. If you add games, even more so than the wilhelm scream.
Nearly every racing/space/ect game has it somewhere.
Scenes that Should Have the Wilhelm Scream
I have the Wilhelm Scream as my ringtone. You should see the looks when I get a call in public.
Repeated use of "the Wilhelm scream" over the years in movies
Neatorama and Say No To Crack share a three minutes and 23 seconds YouTube video (different and longer one).
Repeated use of "the Wilhelm scream" over the years in movies
Re: Doom, the opening door (originally from Doom, not the sequel), the former human death, and also the imp "alert" sound gets used a lot, the latter for a host of random monsters from random films/TV episodes.
The yeeeEAAAAAAGH (or the one I think you mean) came from Aliens afaik; scene where Drake gets sprayed with acid. I've definitely heard that in other movies since, and I think Aliens is the origin just because it fits in with Drake's voice, and the shot is a closeup up his face as he's screaming, which seems bolder than any of the Wilhelm scream usages or their equivalents for that scream.
Music using only the Sounds from Mac OSX
LIES! The Wilhelm Scream is not a Mac OS Sound! haha... But upvote for sneaking that in.
Mechanism
Upvote for the most excellent use of the Wilhelm Scream!
American Dad - James Bond Introduction
Wilhelm Scream when guy hits the tree
Dark Forces gameplay video
I even still have this game on CD. Bought it in '95, I think. Just couldn't get enough of the sound of that concussion rifle. The game made liberal use of the Wilhelm scream too, as I recall.
Now where did I put that disc...?
The WiiHelm
Not long, and there will be a compilation of "The repeated use of the WiiHelm scream" of people suffering neck injuries when using this...
Lifted - Pixar's Latest Short
well spotted unsung! "The Wilhelm scream is often used for when a character is plummeting to a great distance, usually falling off a ledge. Its use in the Star Wars films was the beginning of something of an in-joke among some sound designers of the film industry, especially at Skywalker Sound, and Weddington Productions (now a division of Technicolor Sound Services). They continued to try to incorporate it into movies wherever feasible; action movies are naturals, but film sound cognoscenti are particularly impressed when it is used naturally in films such as A Star Is Born (with Judy Garland), The Wild Bunch and A Goofy Movie."
Lifted - Pixar's Latest Short
Did anyone else notice at the end during the credits... The guy wakes up and falls off into the crater. While falling he lets out the "Wilhem Scream"
"Lifted" by Pixar
