I can't believe I've never seen this movie.

I've heard it referenced many times, but every time I do, I think they're talking about True Lies (with Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis).

And it was written by Tarantino?

Downloaded it and am watching it now. Just got to the scene in this video. Can't wait to love the rest of this movie.

Thanks for posting this.

P.S. Gary Oldman is a pimp. (No pun intended.)

James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic) Goes to Bottom Of Ocean

I just looked over his list of films again and suddenly realised that he's probably made some of the most defining films of my life, how the hell can you argue with these puppies:

Terminator 1 and 2. Terminator 2? That film just literally ruled most of the 90's for quotes and praise. Still popular today.
Aliens. Need i say more? This film is the DEFINITION of action and suspense to me.
The Abyss. My dad (my hero at that age) built it up for months to me as a kid, finally saw it and fell in love. Beautiful film.
True Lies. Probably my favourite arnie film. I was obsessed with arnie and action and spies and detectives at that age. Tom Arnold was amazing. Ages well. Oh and Tia Carrera.
Titanic. HUGE film. I'd never felt the phenomenon of a film becoming an instant world-wide hit before. I don't think one day went by in 1997 where i didn't hear titanic mentioned on tv.

Pretty amazing! Only rival for success rate for me is christopher nolan.

The story looks fairly cliche as presented in this trailer -- realize you're fighting for the wrong side, epic battle climax. But James Cameron has done some amazing things in the past.

Good point, I hate how modern trailers attempt to give you a complete outline of the entire movie. It's like they assume audiences will avoid the movie unless they know exactly what to expect and can be assured that they will not be surprised by anything.

I have my doubts about this movie, given his last two (Titanic and True Lies). But, just like with George Lucas, I can't help but have so much fondness for his early movies that there's always the lingering hope he'll do something good again.

Some of the video is deliberately jittery. Some people around the internets are commenting about how when the wheelchair guy gets off of the transport, it looks "so fake". Well, that's because the framerate is deliberately choppy. Compare that with other scenes later in the preview where it is silky smooth.

I think people are being overly critical with a video. I've looked at this with 1080p and my limited screens and yes, I would go so far as to say it's "photorealistic". There is a very hard line between what you call "realistic" though -- the alien critters convey some very real emotions and that might be the disconnect for some people. To say this is jar jar binks is almost insulting. Jar jar only conveyed his emotions through physical actions (jumping, hanging his head, etc) where you can actually see easy emotions on these aliens.

This isn't star trek either. Star Trek had the forehead-putty-alien of the week. These aliens are disproportionate, big eyes, foreheads that move, etc. And according to JC, this was all done in real time so the actors could really shine through much like Andy Serkis and Gollum -- but even that performance, he couldn't see his work done live.

And lets talk about James Cameron. He doesn't write the best dialogue in the world sometimes, but his stories are really solid. After Terminator, T2, Aliens, True Lies, The Abyss (his cut)... those are practically geek anthems, often imitated, truly unique.

This is a teaser, don't forget it. I see some true possibilities of continued greatness here. It is definitely not star trek or star wars .. no forehead alien or bland lifeless CGI.

I can't wait until December.

I thought this trailer (when i saw it a few days ago) was confusing and did little to spark my desire:
I don't know why they're being morphed into draenei characters
I don't know why they're suddenly in a jungle
I don't know why they're suddenly fighting people
I don't know who's in the right/wrong regarding this fight
BEFORE i saw the trailer, i was hyped to shit about this film. Having seen it, i'm left feeling apathetic. Having said that, it's james cameron. True lies, terminator 2, terminator, aliens, abyss.... these are some of the most legendary films of our time.
Though i will say that getting sigourney weaver in the film doesn't do much for me - people were telling me it was an aliens reunion with beihn rumoured as well, but if it's just their voice, who cares, ya know?
Rather hear joe dimaggio.

Just by watching the trailer:
-They don't get "morphed", their consciousness is transfered or possibly they are running a waldo. Which actually would be more in tune with the movie's title.
-They always were in a jungle, the human base was a foothold.
-If you were being invaded by aliens (in this case, humans) you'd fight too. As for the human operatives, they probably "went native".
-Knowing Cameron's works and ideals, they are probably both "right". The humans probably have some dire reason to be there, and the aboriginals have every right to defend there homes.

Me, I think this is probably an Iraq/Afghanistan allegory.
