Great lines from the Running Man

firefly says...

This was adapted from Stephen King's *books when he wrote as Richard Bachman. I own the 4 in 1 collection which includes:
Rage
The Long Walk (my favorite)
Roadwork
The Running Man

I believe he also wrote "Thinner" as Bachman.

Seven seconds of awesomeness

I looked at my video shelf the other day and realized I have almost every movie in Arnold's "golden run" between Conan and Eraser. All that's missing is Twins and The Running Man. Eraser was the last "true" Schwarzenegger movie... End of Days, The Sixth Day, Collateral Damage, etc. were all such garbage that when Terminator 3 came out it was like a breath of fresh air to at least not be embarassed for the guy.

BS!
Arnie was pure gold in the '80s. Commando? The Terminator? The Running Man? Predator?? Come on. Then if we go into the early '90s, we've got Total Recall, Terminator 2, True Lies... Arnie is awesome. That's not my opinion, that's a fact.

QFT!!! (Yes, that's right 3 exclamation points!)

Seriously Commando is awesome. Grab a couple of buddies and beers and enjoy.

Moment of Truth Destroys Marriage

kronosposeidon says...

Sorry, but it's time for one of my rare downvotes. I know I post lowest common denominator shit from time to time, but not when it comes from reality TV. This is pure exploitation TV, like rubbernecking at the scene of a horrible accident. This is not meant to slam the people who voted for this. To each his own. Any one of you could easily call me out on my questionable posts, and that's fine. I can deal with that. Still, I find this to be the emotional version of "The Running Man".

Okay, now I'll STFU.

The Moment of Truth: new Fox game/reality show

Aside from all the moral blabla, how are they telling whether the person is being truthful or not? I saw none of the usual wires/pulse detectors etc.

They say they take a battery of 60 questions before the show, and from those questions, they pick what, 20? to ask.

>> ^Trancecoach:
(even tho polygraphs have been conclusively shown to be unreliable predictors of truth-telling or falsehoods). Anyone read "The Running Man"?

Ploygrapghs do work. If they didn't, you wouldn't have to be tested on one to get a job with the police force.

And yes, I have read the Running Man. You make a VERY good point with that, and it was an excellent book. (One of Steven King's few non-horrors)

I watched the first 20 minutes of the premiere, and couldn't stand it. They have this HUGE pause between the contestant answering and revealing of the correct answer, just for the tension.
What I don't get is why you would ever lie to a question. If the answer is yes, and you say no, the entire audience will know the correct answer anyway.

The Moment of Truth: new Fox game/reality show

i think they must ask the contestants similar questions before the show begins. Knowing the propaganda machine that is Fox channel, I would bet they state the contestants are connected to polygraph machines during the pre-game interview (even tho polygraphs have been conclusively shown to be unreliable predictors of truth-telling or falsehoods). This program is totally reprehensible and yet another sign of the collapse of civilization. Anyone read "The Running Man"?

The Running Man - by Yoshiaki Kawajiri

Thylan says...

From the Wiki:

The Running Man

Zach Hugh is the titular Running Man, the undefeated champion of the "Death Circus" racing circuit. Competitors race in high-speed formula-one-like craft, and people bet on the lives of these people for huge winnings. An unnamed reporter is sent to interview the mysterious Zach outside of the track. There, he witnesses and discovers the insane man's inhuman abilities, and the reason why he has won every single race.
