'The Flying Man': Darkly Original Short Film

VoodooV says...

I think maybe, much more simply. It might just be commentary on what would *really* happen if someone was given super powers.

Even the most fair and ethical person in the world would have a REALLY HARD time not using powers for personal gain or petty satisfaction. That's assuming you didn't just flat out commit blatant crimes such as this flying man.

Even if you chose to "do good" with your powers, when you no longer have the traditional limitations us normal mortals have, the temptation to do petty shit, even just harmless pranks with your powers would be insanely tough.

@coolhund brings up an excellent point. blue-collar crime, in the grand scheme of things, really isn't a huge problem anymore. white collar crime, however, is a larger concern for most people these days. Little bit harder to swoop in and save the day in that sort of situation. Not very exciting either.

And when it comes right down to it, crime fighting really isn't all that fun or easy.

Shopping Cart Trolls Driver

Shopping carts with swiveling rear wheels are F@$^king stupid!

They're much easier to control in the store, but harder to control in the parking lot, and vice versa for ones that swivel just at the front. I miss the all 4 swivelling trolleys they have in Australia.

I'm seriously not trying to get into an argument about shopping cart design. And I respect your attachment to Aussie swivelcarts. Still, I have to disagree on the point that they are easier to control in the store. When you have a cart with four swivel casters filled with a heavy load, and you get it up to speed, those wheels provide no assistance when you try to redirect the cart's momentum around a corner. It's a danger to shins and container goods.
It's like you are hurtling out of control in the ship from the game Asteroids rather than swooping around in an X-Wing.

You just need practice. After a while, you'll be jumping on the back wheels and drifting sideways down the aisles like a pro

Colorado and Washington Legalize Cannabis

I always saw/read about debates saying how reefer would be a big boost to state income, but they always always placed the debate around the use of smoking, or ingesting it. But I never saw the points being placed about the thousands upon thousands of actual products that can be made through hemp that can be taxed.

I'm glad this happened.

Surprisingly growing hemp seems to be a much more difficult legal problem, one that no state has ever solved. Laws legalizing industrial hemp cultivation have already been passed in 10 states, but if anyone were to actually plant a field the expectation is the feds would quickly swoop in. Federal law makes no distinction between hemp and marijuana, they're both schedule 1 "drugs".

Bills and amendments to disentangle the legal status of hemp and marijuana are introduced in congress every year, but I don't think they've ever come close to passing.

President Obama: We Have Fewer Horses and Bayonets

You couldn't have possibly read my post and the spirit in which it was written and mistook me for someone who has a desire to place in office someone who would fiscally damage this country more than it already is. Or was that rhetorical question just designed to make a point? I want all the boats to rise, don't you?

I'm not 100% against businesspeople being involved in politics, but you have to understand where a Venture Capitalist like Romney comes from.
For example. Sealy used to be the biggest seller of mattresses in America by a wide margin. Huge, very successful company. Bain (under Romney) bought a controlling share and re-structured the company. They slashed the ad budget and dropped the quality so mattresses lasted only half as long. Profits shot up, and a few years later Bain flipped the company for a huge profit. But those profits were at the expense of customer loyalty Sealy quickly started to hemorrhage money, and competitors were quick to swoop in and take up the slack. Two weeks ago Sealy agreed to a buyout to avoid bankruptcy. It's estimated several thousand employees will be laid off in the process. They go from being a rock steady, solid-performing company, to ruin because of Bain's involvement.
Is that the kind of government you want?
>> ^silvercord:
It's also important to remember that neither broke businesses nor broke governments can take care of people.
I have run my own business off and on for thirty five years and can honestly say that I have never looked at it with the cynicism I see in the general population. I believe that if we take care of people, both our customers and employees, the dollars will take care of themselves. By the same token, I can't cripple the business by taking care of people or there won't be any business left to take care of people. That is what making a profit is all about; people get taken care of.
The same applies to government. The government which insists on not operating in the black will ultimately hurt the very people it desires to help. Our government simply must get back in the black. And when that tide comes in, all the boats rise. >> ^Drachen_Jager:

How do you call that: "Saved by the bell" For Romney?
To be fair, Obama was playing hugely on his experience there.
I am not a huge fan of Obama, but in this whole debate Romney came across as a bit of a clown. He obviously knows a lot about business stuff but his world-view really is quite skewered as many have suspected.

I think it's important to remember though, a businesses first concern is to make money first, take care of people second. A government's job is to take care of people first.
Hiring a venture capitalist to run a government is a little like hiring a butcher as a dog-walker because he 'knows about animals'.

"Mitt never let our national security get so lax the red chinese swooped in and stole our missile guidance tech." Nixon (R - crook) opened China.

Isn't that what liberals want--"dialogue" with our enemies? Nixon also created the EPA. Pobody's nerfect. The 'crook' who had no knowledge of Watergate and never ordered it, but still stepped down, unlike Slick Willie the convicted felon. Nixon is a statesman by comparison to both Bubba AND Obozo.

"Mitt didn't built bureaucratic walls between law enforcement agencies to hide his own crimes." Bush II (R - derp) built the Homeland Security Department which helped the CIA cover up crimes of torture.

You mean the guy with higher test scores than Kerry? By international law tis only a crime to torture recognized enemy soldiers of an actual nation, not IED-laying sh1tbag terrorists. If it saves American lives, I'm for torturing every last one of them.

"Mitt didn't tell subordinate women, 'Suck this or lose your job'" Clarence Thomas (R- Koch Ind.) did.

Hearsay and bullshit, rebuked testimony, no charges filed. Nice try, though! Nothing brings out the racist in a liberal like a Black conservative, who by the way, is an intellectual giant compared to Obozo's recent affirmative action twins. Oh, and Thomas was never accused of rape like bubba.

I know pointing out facts won't deter qm, it's just fun to show him up as an ill informed redneck.

Facts? Where? Oh, was that your version of facts? You've failed in your mission. Utterly. I expected less--much less--from a liberal. And you delivered. Let me know when you want another keyboard beating.

Not one of those things fucking matter. How about something that matters you coward? How about "Mitt never supported a Genocide by providing weapons to the perpetrators" or "Mitt never imposed sanctions killing at least 500,000 children and strengthening a dictator who used that power to harm his people even more."

It doesn't matter that Chinese missiles can now accurately target American cities, where before they were pieces of crap? It doesn't matter that a former president is a sociopath who treats women like chattel and dishonors his marriage? Don't worry, there's enough clinton filth to cover everything, including "anarchist" millionaire Chomsky's talking points.

Seriously I'm gonna start telling you this more and more, Do Your Fucking Homework. Because you don't know shit about history, you don't know shit about how the World Works, and you're completely blind to actually learning anything NEW.

The world has been in turmoil for thousands of years before Christ, and the absence of the United States would change very little in the affairs of tyrants and kings in other lands.

clinton's a dishonorable piece of shit. Case. Fucking. Closed.
