1000 Year Heatwave Becoming The Norm

StukaFox says...

Because eventually it'll cool off here, but SoCal will still be SoCal.

(breaking your gonads here -- just some good ol' fashioned NorCal/SoCal shit-talkin'.)

(SoCal still sucks, 'tho)

Antenna perhaps. Why still?

1000 Year Heatwave Becoming The Norm

Orange County is the Florida of California

StukaFox says...

As a former NorCal'er, I can't tell you how much I loathe SoCal. Every now and then, a call goes out to split the state horizontally at around Fresno. Fuck that! Split it at Big Sur and let them have all the shit between King City and the Mexican border.

Orange County is the Florida of California

Water your Christmas Tree. Really.

What you need to know about the Obamacare repeal

enoch says...

@ChaosEngine

lol.i just deleted a massive ramblomatic that broke down the entire history of the ACA.

figured i better just stick to basics.

many of the early protests you saw were partisan diehards who had been riled up by their favorite demagogue.

socalism!!
communism!!

but really the two great things from the ACA,and were provisions obama fought very hard for were:
pre-existing conditions
and while the ACA did not allow negotiating pharmaceutical prices, they DID put a cap on them.

and while the ACA was not perfect, far from it,those two provisions did a lot of good for people who suffered from long term illnesses.

but when anericans are asked pointed questions, without being directed for a specific goal, the majority support a single payer system.even republicans.

because you are right.it is a no-brainer.
americans already pay into a system:medicare/medicaid.
which operates on a 3% overhead.
and if basic, preventative care is offered early in peoples lives, the resulting savings totals into the 100's of billions.

and when presented to the american people like that, the majority are all for it.

*note( in the first three weeks of debating the ACA,the big 3 health insurance companies(blue cross, humana and cigna) spent a whopping 300 BILLION!

by the end it was almost a trillion they had spent to combat the passing of the ACA.

Why Is A Group Of Crows Called A “Murder”?

Well, when you have 18 fucking teams to pick and choose from anybody can be a fair weather fan. What I'm unsure of is just how y'all hydrate the athletes? Hasn't that shithole state burned down yet? Or is mother nature just waiting for SoCal to finally have it's last acre catch fire before she does us all a favor and douses the flames in the Pacific? I'm always rooting for the San Andreas Fault (would seriously be a great team/band name). Anyway, when the Patriots or Chiefs bounce your D-less Jokeland team, feel free to take a reflective walk on a polluted, overcrowded, homeless' toilet beach while I seclude myself in the backcountry, where our votes actually count. Far away from dirty syringes, plastic people, and a crumbling infrastructure. Enjoy that sunshine though! (google that, we get plenty of sun too, it's part of getting the best of all 4 seasons here.)

If you could grow a pineapple you should be able to grow oranges and lemons. We have roughly socal weather here, and have no problems with either... but it never freezes here. You would need to protect the tree from freezing if you have temperatures much below 0°C for more than 10 hours at a time (google didn't answer that question for nocal, my query must've been off) but planting against a south facing brick or stone wall would help if it's marginal (obviously we'd be using a north facing wall).

p.s. worked out the right query, and nocal looks ok on the coast, and even OR and WA, but going further north to BC looked a bit iffy... but then people do manage it - http://www.5dollardinners.com/oranges-from-canada/

Now I'm going to have to try to grow oranges here on the N coast of Cali if I want them....an impossibility. (although I did grow a pineapple here, another impossibility, so we'll see).

Police Murder Sleeping Couple On A Date

poolcleaner says...

Here's an old ass song by The Offspring, a local socal band, with their not-so hit song titled "LAPD":

When cops are taking care of business I can understand
But the L.A. story's gone way out of hand
Their acts of aggression, they say they're justified
But it seems an obsession has started from the inside
They're shooting anyone who even tries to run
They're shooting little kids with toy guns
Take it to a jury but they don't give a damn
Because the one who tells the truth is always the policeman

Beat all the niggers
Beat whoever you see
Don't need a reason
(We're) L.A.P.D.

The city of L.A. feels like a prison
With helicopters overhead and bullets whizzing by
Martial law ain't no solution
Police brutality's just social pollution

Beat all the white trash
Beat whoever you see
Don't need a reason
(We're) L.A.P.D.

They say they're keeping the peace
But I'm not buying it because a billy club ain't much of a pacifier
"Protecting your freedom"
Now that's just a lie
It's an excuse for power that's more like an alibi
Law and order doesn't really matter
When you're the one getting bruisedand battered
You take it to a jury, they'll throw it in your face
Because justice in L.A. comes in a can of mace

Why can't white people stop the violence?

poolcleaner says...

This is a parody? Perhaps...

But... I grew up in Huntington Beach, in that narcissistic white drug culture. I am a product of this... parody? LMFAO. The white "elders" winking and nodding. So HILARIOUS. That video footage -- I know those locations, and I also know from experience and reputation that gun violence between not just whites and whites has occurred right around the location this footage was filmed. PCH, main, the pier -- fucking hell. Mostly a cool if not overcrowded touristy area -- but, it can erupt into random acts of violence. There's a freaking MMA gym on every other corner; TESTOSTERONE INSPIRED, X-GAME/MMA SPONSORED RICH ASSHOLE CENTRAL. There is a problem and it's overly meta with all of your weird perspectives outside my white ghetto.

All of the cool downtown areas of socal have this tendency though. Some of it racial between not just white people -- the Mexican girls who beat the Vietnamese girl to death in downtown Santa Ana not too many years ago, just because she photo bombed them. It's all a part of the same problem really, and not just white culture, but it still remains one side of the dice of random youth violence in the county.

The propaganda machine will say this is an all time low, but I can't ignore the fact that I grew up right there in that video and know it all first hand! And that's what news is about. Not an agenda. It's getting it right. It's funny because it's true. NOT parody -- unless treating white people like they treat the rest of people is considered "parody". That's the only parody I witnessed in this video, which is pretty incidental to me.

Sizzler Commercial Circa 1991

poolcleaner says...

Aw shucks, I guess I'm the only Sifter to not hate Sizzler and America. And, I just ate at Sizzler's last week. Steak and all you can eat shrimp. At the very least, don't hate on the cheesy bread!!!!!

Do I get an America badge or a Sizzler badge or both? Because I deserve it.

If it wasn't for old people and meth addicts, I would not have had the pleasure of visiting this dying breed of restaurant. (At least it's dying over in socal.) And, yes, I am the reigning Duke of Sizzler on Yelp. 5 stars.

Also, I'm pretty sure every company in America had a video like this.

(Whispers: Sizzler)
