Big River Man (UK trailer)

kulpims says...

^so, kp - insane=slovenian? yeah, maybe it true - as far as his alcohol consumption and tendency towards extreme (suicidal) sports attempts are concerned, martin strel is a typical slovenian, i'd say. insane in the mem-brain

Alamut, historical novel on Hassan Ibn Saba & the Assassins (Books Talk Post)

Krupo says...

Actually it's more like the modern terrorists are inspired by the legend of the Assassins.

"First published sixty years ago, Alamut is a literary classic by Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, a deftly researched and presented historical novel about one of the world’s first political terrorists, 11th century Ismaili leader Hasan ibn Sabbah, whose machinations with drugs and carnal pleasures deceived his followers into believing that he would deliver them to a paradise in the afterlife, so that they would destroy themselves in suicide missions for him."

BZZZT - fail to the book reviewer for equating research potentially with the non-fiction side anyway - they were very much anti-drug. These were professional killers and the whole idea of drugs to brain-wash people is, at best, a way to wash away the power of ideology in encouraging people to follow their leader's call to wipe out their enemies. See http://www.amazon.ca/Secret-History-Assassination-Paymasters-Revealed/dp/1845297660 to refer to my source on that.

What motivates you to submit a video to VideoSift? (Sift Talk Post)

kulpims says...

1. I like to think I make the internets a better place by submiting quality videos (because everyone needs an excuse for wasting all that time on one site)
2. sometimes I do fall for that "who'll submit this digg-ed video first" frenzy. it's that feeling you get when you beat Zifnab to the ZPR embed... not that I ever did, but it's the best example of what I'm trying to say. especially in the beginning when climbing the vs hierarchy was still fun (cause with each step you got new *toys, of course). but often it's not even intentional. I just happen to spend a lot of time browsing different video aggregators but I never post videos only because they're popular and I know they might get a lot of votes.
3. I post videos on topics I feel are not represented enough on the sift and/or stuff I like but nobody else seems to appreciate.
4. yes, I do. my themes are:
- flying (also an almost childish fascination with jet fighters)
- jazz musicians I really like
- good slovenian music
- other stuff that originates from my local background, geographicaly or otherwise; anything from music, cinema, arts to interesting sights... also a lot of Slavoj Žižek
5. not intentionaly. but then, maybe my videos do describe me better than my balkan english ever could (I feel awkward using english, that's why I usualy keep my comments short:)

Atlanta 1996 olympics ceremony with world's oldest olympian

kulpims says...

Slovenian "Lord of the rings", gymnast Leon Štukelj, the oldest olympian at Atlanta 1996 games, was born 2 years after the modern olympics revival by baron Pierre de Coubertin and died just 4 days after his 101st birthday. He was healthy and active until the last day.

To be quite honest, I haven't been on much - just long enough to fire off a couple of *commands and view a bit of the top 15. Combination of work, travel, and sunshine are eating away at my sift-time.

Got any good stuff?

Kulpims Goes Gold 100! (Worldaffairs Talk Post)

kulpims says...

thank you all. it's almost exactly one year from now that i started posting to the sift and it has become an addiction, i must admit. but that's ok since i truely don't have a life to speak of and far too much free time. you can usualy find me lurking somewhere in the unsifted waters ("first!") and i enjoy long documentaries, stand-up comedy, all sorts of geeky and spacy, choggie's exotic musical selection (big thanks for the new jazz channel), fedquip's and netrunner's political posts and sometimes, when i'm really stoned (which is most of the time), i'll even upvote farting cats. sometimes i can also be a real asshole but i found out early on that you're quite a forgiving bunch, so thanks for puting up with me and my slovenian cheese. long live the sift!
btw, if any of you ever comes to slovenia, do let me know and i'll show you around. cheers!
